Fantastic experience: After a tedious search for a driving instructor and several rejections from other schools due to "lack of availability," I came across Able Driving School. They got in touch with me and introduced me to Ryan. I passed my test a week ago, and it's all thanks to him. From day one, Ryan was straightforward, no nonsense, and very clear with his instructions. He offered insightful advice, quickly identified my driving weaknesses, and tailored the lessons to address them. I was in a bit of a rush to get my full licence, and it was clear that Ryan was genuinely invested in helping me succeed. I 100% recommend them!

Negative experience: Alex is a rude and ineffective instructor. He seems more interested in his position of authority than in giving helpful guidance. His lectures are full of value judgments and personal insults. These tirades take up three quarters of the lesson, all whilst the car is stationary. I regret having spent my money here.

Fantastic experience: I've had previous lesson experience that had put me off driving for years before, I was riddled with anxiety about driving. When I started with Amar however I became far more confident about the road and he was an excellent tutor. I've just passed my first ever driving test as of today having never taken one before and it's thanks to Amar. I genuinely wish I could rate higher.

Fantastic experience: I passed on my first attempt on Tuesday, and I was ecstatic! Ryan was my instructor, and he was fantastic. His pacing of our lessons was superb; I could genuinely see my progress build week on week, month on month. The lessons always felt as if we were building toward the bigger goal, which was very satisfying. Ryan is an astute teacher and very observant. He picked up my bad habits early on and constructively explained how to change them and why. Ultimately, he will teach you how to drive, not just pass the test, which is the highest compliment I could give him. We also struck up a friendship, and I enjoyed our time in the car together. I started my lessons just as I moved to Edinburgh, and Ryan was always keen on sharing spots to eat and visit—my favourite being Tyninghame Beach. Able Driving School was also fantastically helpful. They went above and beyond to provide me with monthly invoices for all my lessons, which allowed me to claim some of the money back through work. These invoices were delivered promptly every month without me ever needing to chase. So, thank you. In summary, I highly recommend Ryan and Able Driving School.

Fantastic experience: I passed today (second time!) with Amar from ABLE Driving School. He is fantastic! I looked forward to every lesson and genuinley enjoyed them. I am very anxious as a person but Amar made me feel so at ease and never made me feel bad for any mistakes. He is very patient and understanding. Can't recommend him enough! He prepares you for life not just for passing the test and genuinley wants you to do well and be safe. Fantastic experience: I needed a refresher lesson before taking a road trip across Scotland. Mansour is a great instructor, he let me drive on many country roads around Edinburgh and made me feel good during the whole 2 hours. Fantastic experience: Cannot recommend Greg enough. I passed with him a year ago and kept meaning to write a review because I genuinely don't think I'd of passed without him -so here it is, finally! I hadn't had a lesson in 6 years, having lost a friend in a car accident that led to me being an absolute nervous wreck behind the wheel. During that time I'd failed two tests, tried two different instructors I didnt feel comfortable with and then gave up thinking I'd never be comfortable on the road and never pass. Thank god I accidentally stumbled across Able and Greg. He was absolutely brilliant at adapting to my lack of confidence and fear of the road. He was calming and had a great sense of humour which really put me at ease and made me more relaxed. Genuinely missed the car banter once I'd passed and I am so so greatful I had him as an instructor! Thanks again for building my confidence back up and getting me across that finish line!

Fantastic experience: I stumbled upon this school by complete accident and was assigned Ryan randomly as well, and I couldn't be more grateful I was (the fact he is now teaching half of my family and friends as well is proof enough of that). He is such a patient and considerate instructor, and so laid back you can't help but feel at ease around him. He's strict when he needs to be, just enough so that what he's teaching you actually stays with you. After spending a few months driving with him, I've passed my test on the first go and feel confident in my ability to drive safely. In the end I couldn't be happier about the way it turned out, so if you're considering it, you honestly can't go wrong with Ryan

Negative experience: don’t even bother, absolute waste of time. I joined the waiting list in february, waited a few weeks and they tried to call me, i was at work and couldn’t answer, i called back 3 hours later to apologise that i couldn’t get to the phone and they proceeded to tell me that since i didn’t answer the phone that 1 time that they have now taken me off of the waiting list as if they can’t get ahold of you in that instance they give it to the next person on the list. i politely asked to be added again which was in March. i decided to call them today, after months of hearing NOTHING, just for a general chat to see what’s happening, to then be told that after 3 months if you’ve not heard anything, they take you off the waiting list. this is without this information being communicated to me and without any communication that this has happened. so i’ve been waiting and waiting with no word of what’s going on. avoid if you don’t want your time wasted. such a shame

He has a calm, methodical approach to teaching the principles of safe driving, and a learning pace tailored to your individual progress. He identified areas that were in need of refinement as I went through my lessons, while also seeking my feedback on what I wanted to devote more time to practicing. Very flexible with lesson scheduling to fit around other commitments as well, and made sure that it was easy to schedule and prioritise my test when the time came. Thanks to that teaching and support, I was able to pass on the first attempt. Highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: Roger was a great instructor. I had previously tried to learn to drive and found I was a very nervous driver. Roger was very good at keeping me calm and very patient with me when it took me a while to pass because of bad nerves on tests. I'm delighted to say I have now passed and couldn't have done it without the chilled instruction of Roger.

Fantastic experience: Ryan was a great instructor, his attention to detail and what he describes as being pernickety led to me passing first time with only 3 minors. He explains road rules and techniques very clearly and is very helpful when things need adjusting. He sets the bar high for his learners and the results speak for themselves.

Negative experience: Was disappointed when I got there. I am struggling to find the office which is in leith which I went to. When I reach there it was closed and it look like it’s pack everything inside look like it got shutdown or something. I try using all the contacts even phone but nothing. If anyone know where the new place is please let me know thanks

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Greg enough. After a few goes with different instructors over the years I decided it was finally time to put on my Big Girl Pants and get my car licence. I am terrified of tests and had had an instructor previously who was abrupt and the opposite of reassuring. I am very glad I read the reviews on here and asked for Greg. He is observant, patient and reassuring. I finally have a licence and just bought my first car. Not only did I pass (to my shock!), but I feel confident driving and still use some of the key things he taught me, which really help me as a new driver. If I can pass a driving test, believe me- you can, too. Especially if you ask for Greg! ;)

Negative experience: So the company seems good from what I've read etc. However I am quite disappointed. I tried to contact twice about organizing lessons for when I return home to the UK (now in 5 days time.) Once in late August/early September and again late September (or around these times anyway) and had no response. I find this particularly disappointing as I contacted 4 other schools who all had the decency to respond saying "we currently have no availability." I contacted via the website form and the email address given and no response either way so unless these are incorrect I'm really confused as to why I heard nothing back and a little annoyed as well. I feel this is a poor way to treat potential customers (I would have communicated this to the company directly instead of publicly but I don't even know if that would be read? )

Ryan is very flexible with lesson timings and frequency: I did two lessons a week for around 5 months which he was very happy to oblige. My instructor was Greg, who is friendly and professional. He always provides helpful pointers and how you can improve your driving. Fantastic experience: Big thank you for ABLE School Of Motoring. I've past my theory & practical exam at my first try. Margaret at the front desk is very nice, polite & helpful. When I got sick she helped me out with last minute re-bookings & cancellations of my lessons (I was not charged for it at all witch I do appreciate). Greg was my instructor, he will not only teach you to pass the exam, he teaches you to be a safe & good driver. He showed me all the possible routes, places that are dangerous or tricky so during the exam I didn't have any problems or surprises (now that I think about it the mock tests that I had with Greg where more difficult the the real thing...so you're definitely gonna be prepared & ready). Fantastic experience: Greg at Able was absolutely fantastic. I had some previous driving experience and Greg was accommodating and honest, not pushing me to take more lessons than were necessary. The iPad animations demonstrating various scenarios were especially helpful. With his excellent teaching I was able to pass with only one minor fault (you're allowed 15) after only 20 hours of lessons. Thank you Greg!

Fantastic experience: I had 4 driving instructors before I found able driving school. None seemed to be able teach me the way in the way that makes it simple for me. However, Greg from Able was calm and had great chat, which put me at ease. Nerves was definitely the issue with my driving but with Gregs help I passed with only one minor! Greg appreciates that driving lessons are expensive and wouldn't get you to do more driving than necessary. He has your best interests in mind. I'm very grateful for all the help I received and can't recommend Able enough!

Fantastic experience: I did an intensive 32 hour course with driving instructor Rodger. I couldn't recommend him enough, from lesson one got on with him. Very chilled yet very informative. He wont get you down about the things your doing wrong, respects that this is brand new to you and what I think is key to success in learning to drive is Rodger is very patient. I did the course over around three weeks.. which I would recommend as if not you are driving around 8 hours a day in the 4 day week leading up to the test so instead we worked up to having about 15 hours in the bag leading up to the `intensive week`. Rodger is very accommodating and always manged to get me a lesson at short notice, like a lot of people I work full time. Rodger had no compliments about starting early with me before work and finishing late with me after work, allowing me not to stress about working but also learning to drive. Margaret at the office is very friendly and accommodating, Before I booked the intensive week I still had to sit my theory. Margaret was very sweet and motivating to me about my theory and even booked the test for me which saved me 50% rather than booking online. Couldn't recommend ABLE enough and a huge thanks to them for getting me through my test first time.

Fantastic experience: I took 5 classes with David before I had to stop because of moving somewhere else. I was really scared beforehand, but David is incredibly patient, he explains everything really well, and I felt really safe in his hands. He always finds a way to make you feel relaxed, and I couldn't recommend a better instructor!
