City School Of Motor Cycling: Reviews
Negative experience: This lot need a lesson in manners, avoid like the plague, you have been warned.

Fantastic experience: Had great weekend doing cbt. John was great looking forward to doing DAS licence with this lot would totally recommend here I will be back soon thanks guys Christian
Fantastic experience: Had my CBT done with John, great teacher. Explained things very ear and easy to understand. Had a great time driving.
Positive experience: Firstly, I actually passed my direct access course with no minors. Training was OK, but not the best. I asked if they had any literature on shoulder checks/ life savers. Unfortunately, nothing and the younger member of the team gave a brief reference to them. So, the day of the test and the instructor was off, and I'm now with the owner, and he's not giving me any confidence booster at all. But he said look the danger is from the area with the biggest gap/area it all clicked. I personally wouldn't train with them again but I don't have to.the yard for training isn't really fit for purpose as its covered in gravel and loose stones.
Fantastic experience: I did a couple of reshresher lessons having not ridden a bike for 30 years. John was excellent: calm, patient, and confidence building. I highly recommend training at this school.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Drew, particualrly for beginners with no road experience like myself. Really appreciated his clear, patient and supportive teaching style. Sometimes its hard to give someone firm feedback without knocking their confidence but he struck that balance well. Excuse me for the pun but he really went that extra mile to ensure I grasped things I wasnt sure about, was safe on the roads and could pass. Also really appreciated the robust safety advice and tips on what to look out for when buying gear.
Fantastic experience: Excellent tuition from Drew who was very observant, constantly providing useful tips to help me learn to ride a motorbike. It's a no frills set up but the bikes were in excellent condition and the PPE provided was clean and in good safe condition. The CBT course was a mixture of theory and practical lessons covering everything from simply how to get on a motorbike to performing manoeuvres out on the open road. The closed road training is carried out in the yard where you have to negotiate pot holes and puddles. Perfect preparation for being out in the open road. I'd recommend City School of Motor Cycling to anyone who wants to learn quickly how to ride a motorbike.
Fantastic experience: Did my CBT with John. Really enthusiastic and patient teacher. Despite the terrible weather, I had an absolute blast! Will definitely be back in the future for further training!
Fantastic experience: I did my CBT here a few weeks ago with Drew. The course and information was excellent, he's a great instructor with lots of patience and very thorough on the safety stuff which I appreciated. I'm interested that one reviewer doesn't think this is a good place for beginners, that was not my experience at all. I was a total beginner and felt welcomed and taken care of throughout the course.
Fantastic experience: I’ve done two CBTs and my DAS here. Both John and Drew were excellent instructors. Drew was my instructor for both CBT and DAS. Great instructors who know their stuff. They also provide a lot of practical advice for riders above and beyond the course requirements which is a great benefit. The bikes are great and they have heated grips and hand protection also. I would recommend this school to anyone else looking to get their motorcycle licence in Edinburgh.
Fantastic experience: 5 stars absolute legends Done my cbt and das with these guys was lucky anouth to be trained by both John and Drew made the whole process a breeze cheers again
Negative experience: instructor without passion and without patience
Negative experience: Dzisiaj zdałam jestem szczęśliwa miałam profesjonalnego bardzo szczegółowego instruktora trasa była dobrze zaplanowana miejsca te na pewno będzie potrzebne na codzień by ułatwić sobie jazdę polecam te szkołę instruktorzy bardzo dobrze tłumacza są przyjaźni mili i dokładni polecam Kasia
Negative experience: Never go there specifically desi resits teacher.
Fantastic experience: At the great age of 71 I passed my Mod 2 last Monday thanks to the great training received from John. Seriously folks. If John can drag me through training to pass my mod 2 you won't have any worries. Don't think about it. JUST DO IT! Excellent training at City Scholl of Motorcycling.
Fantastic experience: Easy going, great communication and patience.masses of motorcycle knowledge, essy to learn from
Fantastic experience: Class would highly recommend - John and the team made everyone fell welcome and makes the who experience relaxing, very enjoyable and stress free!
Fantastic experience: Just finished my CBT here, this weekend. Great guys with hilarious banter and lots of amazing advice. I can recommend this place for all types. Beginners and those who have riding knowledge and are looking to go for bigger bikes or its been years since last they rode, and they want to familiarise themselves again with riding. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with me.
Fantastic experience: City School Of Motor Cycling are honestly great! Always been here for my cbt's renewals and both instructors, John & Drew are fabulous. Highly recommend them for anyone wanting to do cbt's or to do bigger licences. 10/10!!
Fantastic experience: Best service ever.. highly recommended ... thanks John and Drew.
Fantastic experience: Did my CBT and DAS here. John and Drew provided friendly and effective tuition throughout. I had not even touched a motorbike in my life before learning here, and they have given me the confidence and ability to be able to ride my own. The feedback I received during lessons was constructive and left me in no doubt where I can yet improve. I am glad I chose them, and recommend them if you are looking to learn.
Fantastic experience: Done my CBT few days ago. They really can teach you a lot in such a short time. Definitely recommending this place if you are first timer and want to get a proper training .
Fantastic experience: today i kinda crashed in to the instructor and he kept me calm and told me it was ok it was a mistake i love the guys there truly amazing team i am going back and drew will make you laugh with his jokes through out the 2 days I'm sure john will do too. i got a bonus though i had my first ride on the back of someone xD
Fantastic experience: Drew is a top class instructor. A great mix of banter and serious guidance. Made it a perfect day and a half to get out CBT. will return for my MOD1 and MOD2.
Fantastic experience: One of the best motorcycle training in Edinburgh. My instructor dent is a powerful and best instructor. He gave me proper knowledge of road driving with very easily. I would like to suggest all people please visit this place for proper training. Thanks dent for removing fear of road driving from me. Thanks
Fantastic experience: Good fun, knowledgeable and full of helpful advice. Thanks very much.
Fantastic experience: A very helpful and friendly team at City school of motorcycles i would highly recommend
Fantastic experience: Instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. You can't go wrong to chose them for your motorbike training. I ve had a pleasant experience learning from them.
Fantastic experience: I did my CBT with them. John emails were professional and helpful. Drew was the instructor and he was great, he treated everyone equality and gave extra help for those who needed it. I am looking forward to do the DAS with them.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant CBT, Drew was perfect balance of banter and seriousness. Made it an enjoyable experience.
Fantastic experience: Had a good day sitting by CBT refresher. Very good instruction, No issues at all.
Fantastic experience: Recommended to me by other riders. This place was my last choice due to logistics of getting there, However firmly believe it to have been the best choice. Now any new rider I would point them in this schools direction. After passing I took my bike to Musselburgh service station, the cashier spoke about bikes and how he had booked his CBT, I asked him were about, Seafield. I told him you will be in good hands and good luck! I plan on returning in 2021 to sit the full test. Thanks Again
Fantastic experience: Completed my CBT with City School of Motor Cycling. Great instructors who can offer the correct advice to improve the safety of your riding. They put your safety first and ensure you doing things correctly before moving along. I will continue my training to full licence with them.
Negative experience: Instructor got angry very easily, and came across as extremely condescending.
Fantastic experience: Very good training and very helpful staff would give more stars if possible
Negative experience: The instructor has issues with a novice.concentrated more on the ones with past experience. Talks alot about his army career, videos you on your riding skills. Has a very bad attitude towards students making mistakes, deosnt seem to grasp that some people have never ride a motorbike.I passed my CBT not with them. I felt they lacked the skills to teach a novice. I went on to pass my test. I wouldn't recommend this company to a beginer
Fantastic experience: Spot on
Fantastic experience: john and drew did a great job taking me as a complete novice through cbt, the theory test then das in just 6 days (spread over a couple of months). i passed them all first time. if you’re thinking of taking up riding - at any age - you’d be hard pressed to find more committed and conscientious trainers.
Negative experience: Bad experience with them, best avoided.
Fantastic experience: John and drew are excellent instructors no nonsense and don’t tolerate fools straight to the point in my eyes brilliant as I listened and passed my full bike test , personally would recommend them very professional
Fantastic experience: Excellent tuition from John & drew, made me feel relaxed on the bike. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: Professional and effective.
Fantastic experience: The best Instructor I have ever had, coming from someone who went through 4 different instructors 1 for car and 3 for bike. The guys here love their job and are fun to approach, will definitely suit your needs from any level and point you to the right direction for your test, don’t even think about going anywhere else that’s the best in town!
Fantastic experience: I completed my CBT today and I can't recommend these guys more highly. They're passionate about what they do and it's obvious they're not just in it for the money. The instructors are knowledgeable and very easy to get along with. I'm looking forward to getting my full licence with them later this year.
Fantastic experience: DAS first time pass - largely due to excellent instruction from the guys, particularly John. All done with a sense of humour but of course emphasising safety. Plenty of flexibility in setting up a course for me too
Fantastic experience: Really good guys. Patient. And knowledgeable.
Fantastic experience: The best around!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely first class from start to finish, went for the direct access course and passed, the instructors are well and truly knolagable in all areas, and they go the extra mile to make sure you are confident in all areas, would highly recommend them to any one wishing to complete there bike test
Fantastic experience: Did my DAS course with them and passed second try (entirely my fault though!). Awesome teachers! Really friendly and they know what they're talking about.
Fantastic experience: Completed the DAS course recently with good results. Marty was a brilliant instructor who aligned with the way I want to be taught and learn (but I doubt its for everyone). I was very surprised how far i'd progressed since Day 1 of the scheme. The bikes that we were using were in fantastic condition and would have no problem recommending them to anyone who wants a bike licence
Fantastic experience: I've done two CBT's there and my full. Great team, 1st teacher 5 years ago wasn't great for learners but now the team is patient and considerate
Fantastic experience: I had my CBT and DAS there.Best instructors.
Negative experience: Would definitely NOT recommended for CBT at all...instructor was terribly rude, impatient with arrogant and aggressive manners...
Fantastic experience: Great. Trainers are very patiant.
Fantastic experience: Great instructors with all the knowledge you need to pass.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommended place if you want do pass your full licence. Got mine in first time. Guys are very patient and professional.
Fantastic experience: Had a good couple days doing the CBT. It's been about 10 years since I last done it and had a few bad habits. These were picked up on the first couple laps in the yard. There's no faff to the course. Some places will offer you this training under cover but it's really good for your confidence to get out in the rain and puddles. I'll be back to do my DAS course asap. Cheers
Negative experience: This was my second CBT but I hade not ridden for over a year, my instructer spent more time bragging about his war days in afganistan, how he was a medic and had to shoot some one and used three magazines to kill him started to panic because the third magazine was his last one really!. Then goes on about other people doing cbt, driving into the fences of the training yard, how someone drove down the road about a mile decided it was not for him and walked back to the school pushing the bike. Yet he drove a really big powerful car which my instructor had apparently been a passenger in, then how he had had been in a big bike accident put into hospital for 10 weeks with metal pins sticking out his left wrist and his mate turned up to pick him up and threw him his bike keys and said your bikes outside I'm getting a lift home Yeh!. By the time he took us out on the road I was a nervous wreck , I spent a lot of time pulling over so he could shout at me for making mistakes, I'm Doing a CBT, insisted that the indicator had to be turned off after two beeps of turning into a junction, and shouting because I was only doing 30 in a 40 zone. Had me on a country road up hill on a bend at 60 miles an hour the 125 was screaming the other student with us was on a 750cc by the way a well known track driver used to doing 125 round bends, not me. Then said he was not giving me a cbt because I was leaving my indicator on. I told him I was losing concentration because of three hours of constant riding and getting shouted at and I am over 60years old and starting to get back ache and neck ache. He said if I'm too old to do the course I shouldnt have done it, I also got a 2011 125cc which was not behaving itself and caused me some problems, its an old bike for what it gets put through. Don't use this place if like me you have very little experiance it was a complete waste of my time and money.
Fantastic experience: Great experience. Passed my MOD 2 test after my training with John. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: i done my cbt, john the instructor was great,he gave very clear instructions very patient which helped me pass, i look forward to further training.
Fantastic experience: Coming back to motorcycling after 30 odd years i was apprehensive about the type of instruction i needed, John and Martin gave me a 1 hour assessment and recommended a 2 hour, one on one training session, this was completed and left me feeling confident enough to get a bike and get back out there, Excellent instruction and very professional, Thanks.
Fantastic experience: Excellent cbt instruction for myself, son and wife. Patient and professional tuition from all instructors. Pleased to be able to report that since that review my son and I have completed direct access training and passed our tests. We have both been very pleased with and grateful to John and the team for their thorough and very professional tuition. The training was detailed, perceptive and progressive but also laced with wit and good humour. Any set of instructors that can get someone like myself, mid sixties and with no previous experience through .... with no 'minors', by the way, ..... must be doing alright! Thanks. B.H.
Fantastic experience: Brilliant center for training, even for the inexperienced - One thing to note that I like: there's no nonsense with them and they don't tolerate mucking about.
Negative experience: Wouldn't advice it to beginners or anybody with little experience.
Negative experience: Pretty good place, and established staff seemed okay, but the guy that did my cbt couldn't coach and spent most of the time shouting at us. Not really what you want when you're paying to be taught something.
