I did 3 days training with Cliff who was very knowledgeable and an excellent trainer covering everything required and only dropping 2 minors that were my fault as Cliff had shown me in training so over all well happy with my experience with Peter Smyth training. All the staff I had contact with were great too thank you.

Fantastic experience: I passed my test at the Watnall depot on my first attempt. Transitioning from a car to a C+E licence felt overwhelming at first, but my instructor, Bobby, was outstanding. He was professional, patient, and made me feel comfortable throughout the training, adapting his teaching to match my learning style. As a former examiner, he provided invaluable tips for passing the test, and his infinite knowledge of the test routes was a huge advantage. He's truly an asset to the company.

Fantastic experience: C1 Training in Sutton-in-Ashfield - preparing for the Ambulance Service. Instructor Cliff was great - very knowledgeable, approachable, and someone you're more than happy to sit in a cab with for hours on end! Slight hiccup on my original test day due to vehicle issues was quickly resolved and at no cost to myself, so I can't fault the team there either. I looked at a number of local options for this training and Peter Smythe was by far the most professional looking, and I wasn't wrong to choose them. Passed the test with just 1 minor, and as much as I'd like to take all the credit it was the efficient and competent training that made the difference.

Fantastic experience: hi my name is james I'm currently training with stagecoach I was sent to thurrock to do four days training with TIM .I've been driving class 2 for 20 years but driving the bus was different and having 20 years of bad habits didnt help but spending time with Tim was very helpful learnt loads of new things with him and also got to no him and listen to his army career was very interesting. so just want to say had a great week learning new stuff and great to make a new friend cant wait to ring him and tell him I've passed .

Negative experience: I was nudged to train with Peter Smythe for my Class 1 by a friend who’d trained with them many years before, but I had to abandon my training, and eventually passed easily with Hughes Driver Training Ltd - Alfreton. I joined Peter Smythe after they advertised an Open day, and the concessions pulled me in. However soon after I paid my deposit, I somewhat started to regret my decision; it appears the Admin were keener to get funds in than pay more attention to a workable training programme. First, the flexibility promised to me was rescinded, unless I paid more, apparently. Then, where it is common practice to have tests (Mod 4, 3a) immediately after training, mine were pushed further only to slots they had ‘free’. This disrupted me greatly, my confidence started to wear thin. For reasons that were never fully divulged, I was made to change training vehicles on many occasions, whereas normally they’d let you train and take your test in a designated vehicle. Then, my trainer abruptly went on holiday shortly before my test, that didn’t help matters. On the test day, there was apparently no truck ready for me…and I had to wait in panic for one to be made available; I got heaps of apologies, but that didn’t help my nerves at all, the confidence-damage was done. After my first ‘fail’, I got winks when I mentioned to some Staff who my Examiner was; a tell-tale sign of what was to come, and I had no clue until then, since the frontline staff always had their smiles on. I know that the DVSA do rotations for all their Examiners, and I made every effort to swap days & times to have another Examiner; it was still the same Examiner who kept turning up, and seemed to have developed a bias to fail me. When I raised my reservations about this particular Examiner, I later learnt that it had caused discomfort to the Peter Smythe Management, who told off those I’d approached. I felt trapped in a hopeless-hope, always being encouraged by staff to pay a little more for yet another practice-before-Test session…but it seemed to bear no result. This experience dipped my confidence the more; those who’ve known me would tell you that I’m typically a fast-learner/ pass-first-time type of person. The trend was the very opposite of my natural trajectory and by then I was under no illusion that something was wrong. I paused my engagement, and tried elsewhere with Hughes; to a good easy happy-ending. One thing I have to point out is that the Training Staff are excellent; they’ve been with the company for so long, and really know how to get one to succeed. But there’s only so much they can do when all else is as was the case for me. I’ve since learnt that Peter Smythe, despite its good old reputation, has since changed ownership/management….and maybe this reflected in my experience. The company has a good fleet of vehicles, most are fairly new and drive well. Their site is also clean and good. But Times are rough & tough (financially), and I left feeling that I had been sponged out, taken advantage of. So, beware…my personal experience is a different-truth. @Vince Kay

Fantastic experience: From the first time I contacted Peter Smythe training to passing my class 1 everyone was very helpful, full of support and encouragement. They make you feel at ease and guide you through what ever driving path you take. Personally I chose to do everything with them from starter pack, CPC, reverse training and class 1. The very lovely ladies In reception always make you feel welcome and will give lots of encouragement, The teachers of CPC will have a wealth of experience and knowledge. My instructor was Helen White and I can’t sing her praises enough, we drove round in her very pink truck and I had what I can only class as the funniest, informative and insightful driving experience of my career. Fantastic experience: I’ve just recently passed my class 1 hgv at Peter smythe 23-05-23. If your thinking of passing your lorry or bus test I’d 100% recommend these guys , everyone one is friendly from the reception to the instructors all helpful and smiles ,, I had Helen training me in the pink lorry and she’s a star. Really enjoyed my time training and she’s a great instructor.I don’t normally leave reviews but I thought I would here as it was a great experience.

Fantastic experience: A quality training centre and lovely people. I had the pleasure of Mark Fulleylove as my personal instructor. He made my driver training stress and pressure free, it was a pleasure. Any criticism that Mark may have had with my driving techniques were put across in a positive and encouraging manner which enabled me to rectify my mistakes quite easily. Negative experience: Scammed me of an entire CPC session. They claimed I no showed the CPC sessions, however I rang them few weeks before and rearranged the date over the phone and they gave me the new date and everything. However when I got to that date they told me I no showed the previous date and that's theirs no record of me changing the date. So I lost the CPC session with no refund or offer to redo. I went to fight my corner and told them it might of been a admin error and wasn't interested in talking to me, I felt bullied out of the building and afterwards I complained over Facebook and they didn't reply and they even liked my complaint on Facebook. Talk about giving me the middle finger when I know who was in the wrong. VERY unprofessional company!!!

Negative experience: Do not catch Covid while training! I paid for a full C+E driving course, starter pack and CPC and I unfortunately contracted Covid after day 2, even though there is no legal requirement to isolate, I informed the school as I felt I had a duty of care for my instructor/examiner having to share such a confined space with them. I was told by the office manager to go home, get better and call to resume when ready, when I emailed I was told I would have to pay £350 for a test, I was never informed of this and would never have gone home if I was. I offered to pay a DVSA test fee of £115 but was told I must pay the standard £350 fee. The company will try and sell you 3 tests during the sales pitch for £350 at the start of your training so obviously they were trying to make money from me by charging me the same for one test. It seems I care about their staff more than they do and I should have attended while positive, they are only interested in profiting on the situation. Instructors are brilliant I give them a 5 star, it’s the greed from higher up that lets the place down.

Fantastic experience: Passed Class 1 C+E with PSTT. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!! Absolutely amazing driving school. Amazing service and really lovely instructors. Absolutely incredible guidance and support from instructors, especially Helen and Mark from start to finish. They were calm, patient and concise, and their ability to pass on knowledge and advice is second to none. I would 100% recommend!!!!

Fantastic experience: Highly Recommended.1ST TIME PASS Did my class 2 training and CPC mod 4 , Reverse Test and Class 2 test. Mod 4 was taught by Chris. Friendly knowledgeable chap.. I PASSED 1st time Class 2 training and reverse test was taught by Mark C. Very friendly knowledgeable Chap. Taught me very good and in a way I understood. Thankyou Mark C Staff at Peter Smythe very friendly and made me feel I was a valid student. Highly Recommend Peter Smythe to anyone wanting there HGV/ Bus license.
