Dorset Advanced Motorcycle Training

Negative experience: If you are a foreigner and not a native English speaker, you are advised not to come here for CBT training. There is an elderly white gentleman instructor who dislikes communicating with you and has zero tolerance, while also raising the standards for you. During the process, he openly states things like "I don’t want to communicate with him," which feels discriminatory and deeply upsetting. He then delegates responsibility for me to another accompanying instructor. This other instructor, however, is the complete opposite—very patient and responsible. Another confusing aspect is that while the elderly gentleman is highly experienced, the other instructor occasionally makes mistakes and seems lacking in confidence, often being corrected by the gentleman. If they are in a teacher-student relationship, is it appropriate for them to jointly guide clients undergoing CPT training? I’m unclear about this issue. I did not pass this training, and while I acknowledge that I made some mistakes—a result I accept—the problems I mentioned still exist. For me, this was a terrible experience. If you’re a local English speaker, congratulations—this is the right place for you.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend these guys for all your motorcycle training needs, last week I did my cbt with Kevin and after that I did my das course with Charlie and now I have my full motorcycle license! Fantastic experience: I did my CBT this past Monday with Kevin and I cannot recommend him enough. I first did my CBT 15+ years ago with a horribly rude and abusive instructor down in Weymouth and after I passed never wanted to step foot on a bike again. Fast forward to 2024 and I decided I wasn't going to let one person put me off my dream of riding a motorbike (albeit a 125cc!). I rocked up and met Kevin and told him of my past experiences with the other school and he totally put my mind at ease. When on the bike his instructions on how to control it correctly are clear, concise and calm and when I was struggling, he took the time to explain things in as different way to make it easier for me. I was absolutely bricking it about going onto the road, but having Kev's voice in my ear coaching me through it made it so much easier and I really started to enjoy the ride - 2 hours goes fast! My throttle and clutch control needs some practice, but Kev gave me all the tools I needed to ride safely and to get better with time. The negatives are VERY minor! But here they are: Practising the emergency stop on the car park at the Conservative Club can be quite tricky, as you need to do a loop to build up enough speed, however this is also something you do on the road, so it's only a very minor issue. And secondly the throttle on the Suzuki GSX-S125 was a little twitchy, the smallest movement and the revs shot up. But this very well could be down to my inexperience on the bike! Overall I cannot recommend Dorset Advanced Motorcycle Training enough and especially Kev! I'll definitely be back to complete my DAS early next year!

Fantastic experience: Just passed my mod 2 with DAMT, Norman has been brilliant, he was very patient with me despite my anxiety getting the best of me on a couple of tests but he never made me feel bad about it and was always encouraging. Charlie and Simon are super friendly and welcoming and make learning easy, I did my CBT with them and they made everything easy. Fantastic experience: Just got home after a five day course with DAMT, what a great set up with great staff. I did my CTB with Charlie some weeks ago and yesterday completed my Mod 1 and today my Mod 2. Both of which I passed. All with the help of Norman and Charlie, Norman was patient with my constant questions and truly very good at his job.. Highly recommend DAMT and will be doing some advanced motor cycle training with them in due course, maybe when its a little warmer. Thanks again gents.

Fantastic experience: Had my cbt with ben today being the 3rd cbt I have done he has so far been the best instructor I have had, he has really opened my eyes with how important it is to understand how the road works, his tips in how to ensure a safety riding while showing me the correct ways to maneuver to ensure safety had given me more confidence then I had when I started, I have been riding since 2020 and have been told and shown everything but Ben still managed to teach me important and safety steps which I've not known before, 1000% recommend booking throught Dorset advanced

Fantastic experience: After a really difficult and overwhelming first attempt at my CBT two weeks ago, today I walked away with my certificate! My instructor Ben was amazing, extremely patient, supportive and very knowledgeable. Today I had the whole day with Ben on a 1-1, and on my own bike, and Ben even picked my bike up for me, which was such a great help. And thanks to Hannah too for your help. I'm so chuffed, and haven't stopped smiling! From never riding a motorbike, to having only two days training, is an incredible achievement and a journey I can't wait to start enjoying. Fantastic experience: done my cbt on the 20/8/23 with Ben, he was so thorough with the training and made me feel so safe whilst i was out on the road. made a few mistakes which he could have easily put me down as a fail for as one of them were major but no he wanted me to pass so we went back and did it again about 3-4 times until we were both happy. he explained everything so clearly and made sure that you were happy with what you were doing and felt safe at all times. gave me lots of pointers to help me improve and i passed first time because of him. thank you so much ben, iam so grateful for what you do and what i achieved on that day.

Fantastic experience: I recently did my CBT with Ben at Dorset Advanced, having never ridden a bike before. I could not have wished for a more professional, thorough, kind and genuinely caring instructor than Ben, who is simply outstanding. Suffice it to say I was very nervous initially but Ben was so clear, calm and precise throughout the instruction; building my knowledge, competence and confidence systematically, with empathy, compassion and positive reassurance throughout. In the initial car park sessions, we went through the theory and then put it into practice with slow riding and bike handling in a controlled environment, with Ben really making sure I'd understood the principles, was safe on the bike and was confident enough to venture onto the roads. Once on the road, Ben's totally clear, calm, and timely instruction through the headset was just absolutely superb! Without his clarity and professionalism, together with his consistent, calm and precise guidance and reassurance, I would not have built the confidence I needed to come back and complete the DAS. When we came back from the CBT road ride, I was buzzing, having absolutely loved the experience and I can say sincerely that Ben's professionalism, instruction and clear commands were just exceptional! He is genuinely lovely, caring and so utterly professional, I doubt you will find better anywhere else! The booking process was also superb, with huge thanks to Hannah and to Sue. Dorset Advanced is a brilliant, family-run business that genuinely cares. I've booked to do my DAS with them and being short in the leg (I'm 5'2") Gary and Norman have even been out and bought a new bike to supplement their fleet, and had it lowered, so that us shorter ladies need not be disadvantaged on a big bike that is too high for us. Review of the DAS to follow soon but once again, a massive, massive thank you to Ben - just an exceptional instructor and a lovely, caring person!!

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic 1 to 1 CBT with Charlie. He is such a nice guy and really knows his stuff. He is so patient with beginners, unlike other places where I have had bad experiences learning how to ride on motorcycles. I have really struggled with my slow riding and group CBTs in the past and it has always been the wall between me and being able to ride. Despite the fact I was so anxious and that I made things more difficult for myself, Charlie persevered and provided me with the help and reassurance that I needed, however frustrating it must have been! I'll definitely be going back to do my proper bike test after I've got a few more miles under my belt. Thank you so much Dorset Advanced Motorcycle Training!!!

Fantastic experience: just now NEW Passed my CBT yesterday, thanks to my fantastic instructor Ben. For someone who has never been on a bike or drove a car, so completely new to the roads, and suffer with high anxiety, I was a bag of nerves on the day, and my anxiety sky high. My instructor Ben, made me feel at ease. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and very patient and understanding. My main anxiety kicked in when we were due go on the roads after the initial training. But when we was on the road, Ben made me feel extremely safe, with constant direction, and by the end of the day I wanted to go faster ha ha ha. I completely came off that course loving it. So for anyone who is a complete novice like me, I couldn't recommend Ben more. Thank you Ben, for making what I thought wad going to be the worst day ever, the best.

Fantastic experience: Having been through a CBT with a Christchurch company who was unsupportive at best impatient at worst, then not being able to ride for 5 years due to having a baby, I was more nervous this time but Charlie was amazing. He gave me time and the confidence. We didn’t sit in a classroom environment for the first few hours we got on the bikes and actually practiced what was needed. Fantastic experience: Our instructor Ben was phenomenal - super easy to got on with, and gave us loads of great training. He made sure we were comfortable at every stage of the day. He went above and beyond anything I was expecting, giving us guidance on key things like safety, what equipment we should buy, as well as his thoughts on bikes that I was looking at buying along with plenty of useful tips - whilst the nature of the day was serious, he made sure to make the day quite fun and myself and a friend had a blast - great to also pass first time without any issues. Would highly recommend these guys to anyone looking to do CBT like i did, or the higher up courses - you're in safe hands!

Fantastic experience: Having never ridden a geared motorbike before, I chose Dorset Advanced Motorcycle Training due to their reputation and reviews, and today really illustrated just how well deserved they are. Having my car, bus and lorry licences (as well as having been an instructor myself) I have met lots of instructors, but there isn’t a single one that had the patience, professionalism, and genuine friendliness shown by Ben today. He is absolutely amazing, even to the point that because we hadn’t completed the necessary requirements in time, he even stayed on longer tonight just to ensure that we passed. I cannot hesitate but to recommend. I went from being a complete novice to feeling safe on the road in a day, and I sincerely doubt that many other schools or instructors could have done the same thing. Their reputation is fully deserved, and I would highly recommend them to anyone thinking about doing a CBT or license. Flawless service from booking to passing.

Fantastic experience: Just finished my CBT with Ben on this course and, cannot be happier. He was so helpful and patient. Called me Valentino Rossi a few times ;) but I don't blame him, I get mistaken for him all the time. We ate into a couple hours outside of the planned agreement but, he was more than happy to stay on. Hope he enjoys his pint, he bloody deserves. Top bloke and a good lad. Would highly recommend these guys.

Fantastic experience: I did my CBT today with Michael and bar it being cold it was really good. I enjoyed all of it and Michael was a really good instructor. He was absolutely brilliant; so patient, knowledgeable and kind, he really went above and beyond. My bike broke down part way through the day.... He really went the extra mile in resolving this issue and nothing was too much trouble.

Fantastic experience: DAS with Norman, patient and really helpful. He cares that you want to pass. Lots of training, plenty of opertunity to practise, he doesn't rush you. I wanted to do A1 but Norman recomended I went for A2 as he saw I would fail the A1 with the more powerful bike. I passed A2, which is enough power for me for now. Highly recomend. ( I did my CBT with them as well).

Fantastic experience: Ok so first things first. Norman will eat all your sausage sandwiches given the chance! This is a great school to learn all the requirements to be safe on the road. Norm is a great teacher, with patience in abundence. He has been riding motorcycles before dinosaurs roamed these parts and has been an instructor for almost as long. Im so glad I chose this school because it not only enabled me to pass both Mod 1 and Mod 2 first time but has also set me up for a lifetime of SAFE riding. I cannot stress enough the importance of listening and absorbing information from someone who knows his stuff! Sue is also amazing and will make the whole process behind the scenes seamless. Fantastic experience: Very good place for the CBT. I had to come back twice to finish it as I was very green riding a motorbike. But the instructor remained patient and encouraging. If you wan to do the CBT, give this company a go!

Fantastic experience: Fantastic!!!!! My son who is 16 had a full day's CBT test today with Michael. He has never ridden but is super confident and really wants to ride. Michael was brilliant with him. He passed !!! Fin will be booking another course with you very soon to learn manual gears so when he is 17 he can ride his 125 safely with L plates. Fantastic experience: Highly recommended. I previously completed a CBT, and most recently my DAS, with Dorset Advanced, and found them to be nothing other than calm, courteous, knowledgable, and professional in their training and wider support. Norm’s expertise was invaluable, and his approach to producing well-rounded riders, and not just ‘teaching to the test’, made learning both easy and enjoyable. Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic training from Norman, just successfully completed my DAS course today! Patient and excellent tutoring given. Each day was well structured to build confidence stepping up into driving bigger bikes. Mix of off road and on the road training and of course the regular coffee pit stops!! This followed my CBT refresher a couple of weeks back with Charlie who also gave very good training. Looking forward with confidence now to getting myself an upgrade on my 125!! Fantastic experience: I enrolled for the six day course in order for me to pass my Part 1 and Part 2 motorcycle test. I had the pleasure of having Norman as my instructor. To say that he was ‘outstanding’ in his ability to teach and instruct does not go far enough. He is the best instructor for anyone who is nervous and lacks confidence. Any mothers out there wishing their sons/ daughters to learn to ride in a safe responsible fashion then this is the No1 place to go. It is a family run firm who are conscientious and passionate about their work. Thanks to Dorset Advanced I can now take down my L plates! Negative experience: Horrible place for the CBT test stay away from this place I just got 30 mins late and they ask me to rebook the test again and pay again the trainers do not have human values, in every CBT test initially two hours are just formal information session they give information about gear, I got late coz my bus got delayed by 20mins and also this place is far away from Bournemouth and not so easy to go there by bus.

Fantastic experience: The guys at Dorset advanced are absolutely amazing, Lisa was fantastic when I done my cbt with her, she explained every exercise with great detail and allowed me to take my time when doing them and got me through it with ease And Norman was absolutely amazing, I couldn’t be happier with the way he treated me on the course for my ‘big boy license’ he allowed me redo certain exercises if I didn’t feel 100% on how I done it and he explained everything with great detail, witch helped me achieve my dream of getting my full bike license. I honestly could not recommend theses guys enough, if you want to get your license done, you need to do it with theses guys, top top notch people✊✊

Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend this company enough. Sue and Norman and Lisa were all amazing, so professional, patient and understanding and were more than happy to ease any pressure and happy to go over anything as many times as you need or would like. This proved to be good as I passed all my tests first time. If any of you are thinking of doing your bike license then this company is where you should start and see it through to the finish. Fantastic experience: I did my cbt today with Advanced. Outstanding service. Lisa was brilliant and walked me through everything with loads of knowledge and patience. By the end of the day I was feeling very confident on the bike despite starting the day full of nerves. Would absolutely recommend these guys

Fantastic experience: I've passed my CBT here yesterday! I have an EEC license so It was quite a procedure but even before I booked they have helped me and talked me through what forms will I need from the DVLA and gave me all the necessary information. I havent sat on a motorbike for the last 6 years but my instructor was a suuuper experienced and nice lady who brought me up to speed very efficiently and got that rust off of my skills. I chose the worst day for riding as it was foggy below 0 degrees and drizzling rain my instructor asked me 2 times if Im comfortable enough to continue which I did. Was quite a day but it was also fun! I highly reccomend them and Ill be back this summer for my unlimited license! Thank you so much Dorset Advanced Motorcycles! -Adam
