Carlimits: Reviews

Negative experience: In general the staff and most of the driving instructors were nice. On reflection, the experience overall at North Weald was average/ disappointing. The track was too small to experience get a decent experience of the cars' capabilities. The whole point of a driving experience is to be able to drive performance cars fast and experience more of their potential which this track prevents. All of the cars were driven between 2nd and 3rd gear on tight hairpins followed by short straights which severely limits the the point of the experience: to truly DRIVE the car. For any driving experience in the future, I'd recommend to look at an actual race circuit to seek more of an actual driving experience rather than a short ride in a fast car.

Fantastic experience: Done another activity day at carlimits . Fourth time now Great value and excellent customer service. So cheap compared to a track day. Only 50 notes to race your car . Bargain Cheers guys for a great day again

Fantastic experience: Activity day for £50, best money you'll ever spend. Go when it's wet for extra fun!

Negative experience: I got free voucher but even that.. it's Not worth taking the trip to get here. Forget about the money paid. Might as well go carting. Cars are great but, The track is small and short. You cannot go fast so whats the point of it. I was expecting to drive at least 200km/h. Reality is like driving on a normal street. Spend money to go to a proper race track. And they sell you £5 for driving you in a van around the small track so you can get familiar with it. I think thats the laughable part..

Negative experience: There are two ways of reviewing our "experience" We booked via Track Days for my son to have a Junior Lamborghini driving experience. It was for his 12th birthday (which is the minimum age requirement) He was so excited that not only was he able to drive a car but his favourite car on his Birthday!! My review - Very badly sign posted but managed to find it in the end. Walked up the the reception to register, and was told that we were down for 2.30pm not 1.30pm as stated on my email confirmation!! Bad start!! We were then told to go upstairs to the briefing room. Where we waited for ages. Finally a bloke walked in saying we were unlucky we had him doing the briefing because he was the owner of all the cars. All he banged on about was how expensive the cars were and that he had lost 3 in one month. He mentioned the £25 insurance fee and that if he had his way he wouldn't offer it and we would have to pay the £5000 excess. Very unprofessional behaviour on his part. There was no mention of go out there and have fun!! The Junior drivers are mixed with the Adult drivers. Which didn't bother us, but obviously the adults do get stuck behind the slower junior drivers. Would make more sense to have a separate area for Juniors or a dedicated time slot. It was finally his turn and off he went. He loved it!! But the 'Hot Lap' we paid extra for was in a BMW, not the Lamborghini as expected and he was put in the back of the car as apparently they have up to 3 passengers on a hot lap. Therefore because he was in the back this part wasn't recorded on his USB. Overall, I would love for him to experience it again but certainly would not go back to Car Limits!!! ********************************************* My Sons Review - he had an excellent time! Loved the car although he was nervous about driving for the first time.

Negative experience: Very poor customer service. Staff at the registration desk had little to no knowledge of requirements around their own processes and their actually response was 'it doesn't matter- most people just sign it' when questioned about some clauses in the registration document.

Negative experience: What a waste of money. It's a coned of bit of tarmac. Better to go with real tracks. Save your money

Laurie Leonard 6 years ago

Negative experience: I'm not surprised this is full of 1 star reviews. I just wish I had checked first. Really poor driving experience. The "track" (small car park with cones) was tiny. You were able to open the car up for a split second before having to break again to get round the track/cones, that's if you weren't stuck behind other drivers as the track was overcrowded. One of the instructors were lovely (the young blonde chap) but the others were miserable and seemed like they couldnt be bothered. The fast lap that we paid extra for was with 2 other passengers in a suburu not in the lotus as expected. If you really want a driving experience dont bother booking with these. Really disappointed.

Negative experience: I received the super car driving experience as a 40th birthday gift and decided to book the supplier closest to home, big mistake! I wish I had read more reviews before booking my experience day with this supplier! My experience in summary was... * hard-selling at every engagement with any of the staff: * over-crowded race track which meant for almost half my time on the track was spent trailing behind other vehicles * the company run out of track time for the day, despite an advance booking on a weekend which cost more and being at the track waiting around for almost 4 hours! * despite booking in advance and again on the day I was forced to give up my ride in the aldi R8 for an bmw i8 because the supplier was over running with time * was asked to sit in the back seat with 2 others than the driver for the passenger lap I would strongly recommend you DO NOT book with this supplier, I made the mistake of distance convenience which cost me what I would describe as car enthusiasts dream day out.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic activity day at North Weald Airfield today. Gave me the ability to find; and exceed, the limits of my car; and ability, in a safe, professional and well organised environment. I could not fault a thing and the blokes running the day were top notch, a superb day. If you are even slightly considering booking an activity day just do it. Superb!

Clare Jordan 6 years ago

Fantastic experience: Had a triple supercar blast experience and it was an absolutely brilliant day! Obviously you can't pick up enough speed to crash but you can accelerate enough to hear the engines roar! All the staff were lovely and chatty and let you drive how you felt comfortable. Will definitely go again to try some of the other cars!

Laura Searle 6 years ago

Positive experience: After reading the bad reviews we were really apprehensive but so glad we went. Good staff friendly and helpful and brilliant experience all round. A shame the photos etc are too expensive so only 4 stars due to that but otherwise thanks for a great afternoon!

Fantastic experience: Had an excellent time today with my brother. Best service Lovely staff all friendly and jolly. Made me and my brother enjoy one of the best experiences ever. Highly recommended. Brother loved it as it was a birthday gift. Fantastic. Will definitely revisit this site

Positive experience: I drove the Audi R8 v10 and the lambo. I’m not sure why people are saying they couldn’t open it up. I definitely exceeded 100mph on the straight. I also seriously doubt what people said in other reviews that the instructors are applying the brakes at the same time as you accelerate. They would wreck the cars! I had an amazing time but marked down by 1 star because the Lamborghini looked very tired on the inside with masking tape holding bits together. Not exactly the millionaires experience. The Audi was better. Also the cost to buy the photos and video is very high!

Negative experience: This was the worst experience I've had... It was definitely not worth the journey or the payment made. I was dissapointed with the customer service due to intolerant behaviour by staff. I would not recommend this to anyone...

Dávid Vas 7 years ago

Negative experience: I got this as a gift. You go onto an "airfield" expecting a track laid out on the runway or similar - instead you get a training course laid out by cones in the parking lot 100 metre by 100 metre where the fastest you'll go will be 45mph for a split second. The 4 laps are finished in less than 2 minutes. This would be bad even for a gokart course. Knowing this I would've chosen the Elise because all the other cars are massive massive overkill for this course. Two stars because the instructors were fun and polite, and the customer service was excellent. The extent of the track compared to the airfield is attached - it measures to be about 550 metres in length, so ~2km total for the 4 laps.

A Francis 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: The driver training day is a great opportunity to improve your car control in a safe environment. Friendly instructors know what they are doing. Will make you safer on the road and faster on track. I can’t comment on the Supercar Experience, but probably better to do that at Silverstone or Thruxton, rather than a tight restricted airfield.

Thomas O'Driscoll 7 years ago

Fantastic experience: Attended the airfield training day. Day was well organised and great fun. The group is small (four people) and to show how well the course is respected, one of the other guys was a performance car instructor and the other a racing driver. My girlfriend and I (both amateur drivers) took our v8 Mustang and both came away with massive smiles and new skills which are both great fun to learn, but no doubt will save our lives if we ever hit a problem. The day was safe, well structured, with each activity leading into the next perfectly and adjusted for each individuals learning style and ability. Marks tuition style and calm demeanor is clearly a natural ability and not once did anyone struggle to understand. If you ever want to understand what being on the limit is and how to handle it, book in for a day, it will be the best money you've ever spent. We will be regulars now.

Fantastic experience: Booked this as a Christmas present for my 14 year old son and this morning we went along to drive a Lambo for 8 laps! Wow this is a slick operation, very well organised and friendly staff. After reading some reviews we didn't bother paying for the £5 single lap in the transit which apparently gives you an insight into the lap and where to brake/accelerate, but at 14 and the car being dual controlled I didn't think this was worth bothering with, my choice. Again I didn't bother with the £25 insurance waiver as I knew the car was dual controlled and my son wouldn't have put himself in danger and I doubt very much the instructor would have either, so another £25 saved but you're given the decision. The driver briefing was very good, it's serious but light hearted not to scare too much. There are all facilities on site with tea/coffee/food (even beer!). My son thoroughly enjoyed himself and said he felt alive afterwards.

Stuart Forrest 7 years ago

Positive experience: We booked this at Christmas for our son and when we arrived today I had read some of these reviews which had me worried. They do try to sell you a £25 insurance waiver which immediately got my back up, if you offer a service then please don’t try to throw in hidden extra charges later. That cost you a star on my review. Having said that the event was organised very well and my 13 year old son said all three co-drivers were really nice to him. He certainly came away absolutely delighted and wanted to know when he could go again. They let him floor the throttle along the straight in a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Ferrari 430 and an Audi R8. He went fast enough that I was standing at the side of the track wishing I had paid the £25! It seemed that everyone who was capable was letting rip where you could. I think it was a very well run event in very nice cars and apart from the £25 con I would have certainly given it five stars. Thanks Car Limits. We had a nice time.

Harry Phillips 7 years ago

Negative experience: We got the 3 car experiance for our son for christmas the first two were so so but he saved his favorite till last and the instsuctor restricted him so much i could have ran faster myself, the track is far to busy all in all we were extremely dissapointed with the whole thing.

Fantastic experience: Luxury Car Driving Experiences

Mohammed Rabbe 7 years ago

Positive experience: Had a great time, was my first time and was amazing, went on a weekday which was quite and no real queue. Went in the GTR and F type and was great, I did feel the £5 I paid for a sighting and the £25 was not worth paying as I was a fairly experienced driver and felt like money was wasted, overall I had a total of 8 laps ( 4 and 4 ) and it went really quick, thought the circuit would've been larger but overall was a good experience. I'm happy to do it again and recommend it, I also feel the £5 sighting lap was point less and the £25 waiver but other than that... It was good.

David 8 years ago

Positive experience: There was a £5 charge to go on a ‘Sighting’ lap with an instructor which they advise you to do, was a waste of time. Also something which isn’t stated clearly but is in the terms and conditions is that the driver is liable £5000 damage but can also pay £25 on the day to have this wiped, was another waste of money. You have an instructor in the car with you at all times who will tell you when to speed and when to slow etc. I had a shot in the Aston, great car and instructor was brilliant. My other car was the Lamborghini but I ended up swapping for the Audi R8 as the queue was massive and had grown with the next lot of bookings which had come when I was out in the Aston. R8 was also a great car but instructor was a bit rude. Also noticed that the Ferrari was missing. Experience of driving the cars was brilliant but I expected more from the overall experience. Was disappointed to miss out on the Lamborghini and with the extra charges which I think should be an option online rather than a forced upon thing on the day.

Z R 8 years ago

Negative experience: The track is as small as a parking lot and no speed could be built up, the instructor was pressing the dual control brakes on the straights so we couldn't properly open it up and the only time I could slightly open it up, I was told off! This is not my first time driving a powerful rear wheel drive car and I know exactly what it feels like and what to do if it steps out! I used to drive a different car with similar power to the rear wheels as a daily driver!

behzad maz 8 years ago

Negative experience: The car is old and the lab it's too small to go fast and the behaviour oof who call his self owner it's shocking.

Athanasios Lambros 8 years ago

Negative experience: Absolutely shocking! My in-laws bought this for my wife and I for a Mustang driving experience - a car we both love! At first we weren't given wrist bands, then had to sit for 25 mins listening to the owner about how expensive it was to repair minor damage, we paid £25 each as an insurance waiver so we wouldn't have to pay £5k if we hit a soft rubber cone! It wouldn't even cost that to repair the car since it was an older model (roughly 2010). After some waiting around, my wife's name was called, after she pulled back in, mine was called. As I passed her in the "pits" she told me the track and instructor were shocking ... needless to say after my experience, I can also say it was! The track was way too small and no speed could be built up, the instructor was pressing the dual control brakes on the straights so we couldn't properly open it up and the only time I could slightly open it up, I was told off! This is not my first time driving a powerful rear wheel drive car and I know exactly what it feels like and what to do if it steps out! I used to drive a different car with similar power to the rear wheels as a daily driver! We both bought the CD of photos for the in-laws to see however, we don't even want to show them as we both look angry and disappointed in them! Thanks for ruining our first Christmas Present from my in-laws as a married couple! Needless to say, we'll never be lining your pockets again!

Fantastic experience: Just back from a four man advanced driver training day. Well organised and incredibly skilled, and friendly, instruction made it an excellent day. There is some waiting around whilst your instructor gives one-to-one tuition to other drivers, but it's still a great day - I've learnt some vauable skills. Recommended.

Fantastic experience: I've drove a gallardo and drove a Ferrari (yellow) and a r8 today the instructor was called John who took me round in r8 he was really nice and funny Thanks John

Negative experience: I booked this for my 12 year old child as car limits advertise that 12 year old`s can drive these cars as well. We got there early and must say we thought this was really well set up and organised, The cars was amazing, really impressed us, Then we had to pay another £25 for insurance that wasn't mentioned when we booked, which we thought was rather steep for a 5 minute experience. My 12 year old drove the Lamborghini and came away absolutely petrified, embarrassed and upset, He Didn't really talk for the 1 hour journey home, This was down to how he was spoken to by the instructor in the car, it wasn't until we got home we watched the DVD we purchased and realized why our 12 year old was so upset . I personally think that this instructor needs a lesson in how to speak to children of that age, Or Car Limits should set an age that there instructors can speak to people properly. I found the DVD very hard to watch when there is a adult talking to my 12 year old boy the way he did, ( I think the instructor expected my 12 year old to have the experience of Lewis Hamilton). I would not recommend this for children if you want them to come away from this experience the way our 12 year old did. When I booked this for our 12 year old I thought this would be a treat for him but instead he came away regretting the experience. Thanks Car Limits Mark and Sarah Binns

Emma Scott 9 years ago

Negative experience: I brought this as a birthday present for my boyfriend. What a waste of time this really was. Although my boyfriend enjoyed driving the Ferrari and lamborghini he spent a maximum of 3minutes in each car. I brought this thinking he would be able to hit a reasonable speed, we drove home faster then what he managed to do in either car. I think that this is extremly overpriced especially as we spent most of the day waiting around. I would not recommend this unless you are thinking about getting this for someone who can not drive. Absolute con

stuart criddle 9 years ago

Negative experience: Cars were great but track to small so you couldn't get enough speed. Also had to pay £25 excess waiver, when I asked for the paperwork I was told we don't have any. I thought if your paying for added insurance then you would have a least a bit of paper saying what your covered for. Then spent 20 minutes in a class room with the owner banging on about what it would cost if you hit a small cone on the track, just trying to scare people into buying the fake insurance. Anyone looking to drive a high performance car then try one at a proper track not here.

Fantastic experience: Staff were great, and instructors were helpful. Will be doing it again!

Mike Cowley 9 years ago

Fantastic experience: The day was a revelation in terms of learning about the on-limit behaviour of both yourself and your vehicle, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The fact that there is zero chance of you hitting anything when you inevitably run out of talent and spin out is of course a great bonus. You learn several different aspects of car handling before putting it altogether at the end of the day with some 'hot laps' of a track laid out with cones. There's also a very good mix between having the instructor alongside you, watching and coaching and providing feedback, and being in the vehicle on your own whilst practising (at this point, the instructor will be with another student, leaving you to focus by yourself and test if you were listening to the instructor earlier!). I'm already planning a second trip back there as there's still lots to learn! This day just goes to show that the biggest and best modification you could ever make to your car is to yourself.

Carlimits

Glad you enjoyed your advanced driver training day. It will be a skill you have for life.

Mohsen Abbasi 9 years ago

Negative experience: The point to drive a supercar is to enjoy a bit of speed and acceleration. Your driving track was small. I was given 4 laps, which I suspect it was even 3 miles (the amount mentioned on my voucher). Why did you put so many cones on the track and why did you make such narrow corners which made it impossible to speed up at all. I drove on second gear maximum, with a speed of maybe 25 miles an hour. Is this not wasting money on a Lamborghini experience? When you warn many times that hitting any of those little pointless cones was equal to loosing the whole experience and even potential astronomically expensive costs, who would dare to speed up at all? An experienced driver unconsciously slows down by seeing those cones and bends on the way. One should be more careful if there are potential losses. I was totally feeling to do a driving test, and couldn't even show a smile. This was my sister's birthday gift to me. I could not hide my disappointment from her, which was heart breaking to her. I believe I deserve a refund or some way of compensation.

Fantastic experience: Very good morning out with experience driving 5 top end cars. Very good instruction, good range of vehicles available on the day, would definitely return. Very reasonably priced too.

Carlimits

Glad you have a good time. Which cars did you choose to drive? Which was your favourite?

Richard Appleby 10 years ago

Fantastic experience: Just did my second day with Car Limits and had even more fun than the first one! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to improve their vehicle control. I feel significantly safer on the road, particularly in poor conditions.

Andy Bruce 11 years ago

Fantastic experience: Having been to a few activity/fun days with the car club I belong to, it was soon apparent that my 30+ years of driving was still lacking in certain departments. Even though some of that had been on track in the past. Having been given a few helpful hints on the fun/activity days that improved my control and fun only timings, for the runs/circuits. I decided it was time to take on some proper driver training. Boy what an eye opener... Had to go back and do a few more. Andy Walsh and his instructors can easily take you past your limits, all in a safe environment. Then help you further your drivings skills, recovering from spins that you had previously not been able to catch. Learning more and more as the day goes on about the basics of under steer and over steer. Then on to slip angles, traction circles, better/smoother braking, steering and throttle inputs and how they each, then combined act on the car through high speed bends and slow hairpins. Well worth a visit if you have not been. We are planning on going back for more. A massive Thanks to CarLimits

Andy Webb 11 years ago

Fantastic experience: Ideal company and venue to really learn how to drive to all conditions. Top class instructors especially Andrew Walsh who has the time and patients of a saint. Would highly recommend to new drivers and experienced driver alike, you can never stop learning. CarLimits is the best upgrade for any car.
