Fantastic experience: I had a lovely learning experience with Liz Dyer, who was able to help me pass. She boosted my confidence in my ability to drive, was an excellent teacher who was always very patient and explained things clearly and simply. She didn’t give up on me even after failing twice, and I am grateful that she has taught me a skill for life.

Fantastic experience: I passed first time all thanks to Katy! She is an excellent driving instructor. I had issues with nerves while driving and she helped me become the confident driver I am today. She was very calm and patient. Although, I would recommend taking time out to do some independent driving as well as having lessons with Katy, as this will give you the road experience needed to build up judgement and confidence. Overall, very happy and I couldn’t ask for a better instructor.

Dave is patient, responsible, and 100%-ly professional. He made me feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel, and his clear instructions helped me understand everything I needed to know. Anyone, whatever age, can have the experience of driving or getting ready for that first on the road lesson in a safe, controlled environment with professional driving instructors, both manual and automatic vehicles.

Fantastic experience: David Featherstone, was 3rd driving instructor. My other 2 driving instructors were manual and David was automatic. He was very patient and supported and helped me with my nerves! He successfully helped me pass my test and gave me the confidence to become a good driver. I can’t stress how amazing he is and what a good driving instructor he is. He never fails to make me laugh in lessons and he listens what i need to improve on and helps with that, never pushes you or rush you! I would highly recommend David

Fantastic experience: From my first phone call with Debbie I felt she had really good/kind energy. I could tell she was really friendly and someone I was going to get along with. My first lesson went really well. She assessed my driving skills as I'd been driving for a while already for about 7 months and I could just tell I made the right choice changing my instructor. Fantastic experience: In September 2022 I chose “theory test revision” as my college enrichment. The tutor was Peter Webb, owner of EXL. Due to the excellent weekly sessions, when I turned 17 I knew Peter would be my preferred instructor. I got his details and contacted him regarding my struggle to sort out my provision licence. He went out of his way to come to me and help fill out my documents for this. I then received my provisional and contacted Peter asking if he had availability for any lessons on the Sunday, he replied and had a lesson for me on the Thursday. From then I had weekly lessons with Peter. He was an excellent help with finding me a learner insurance for my own car too! Peter was able to get me tests without the long 4 month wait as he was able to move tests closer to the date. Over all Peter has always been an amazing instructor, always cracking dad jokes and teaching to the best of his ability at all times. I would 100% recommend Peter himself and EXL as a whole to anyone who asks. Thank you EXL for helping me gain my freedom ! :)

Negative experience: Paid for 10 hours of lessons - instructor kept cancelling and we never received the last 2 hours - requested a refund but ignored us - take your business and money elsewhere - dishonest and with weeks apart my daughter learnt very little from these lessons

Fantastic experience: We can only find positives to say regarding Katy and her lessons for my 17 year old! Only had six lessons, of two hours each and today passed. Katy’s instructions and knowledge of what was needed to be taught and the test routes around Bishop’s Stortford were invaluable. She is always encouraging and positive, and following each lesson forwarded relevant videos for extra guidance and reinforcement of learning within the lessons. I would highly recommend Katy at Exl driving school.

Fantastic experience: Thanks to Liz at EXL Driving School!! I passed my driving test the first time and feel prepared to navigate the roads safely. From the moment I started my lessons with her back in November, I felt at ease. I very much enjoyed my classes and looked forward to each lesson. Liz is calm and patient in her approach and she helped me overcome my nerves and gain the confidence I needed behind the wheel. She instilled in me the value and importance of being a safe driver. Fantastic experience: A big big thanks to David Featherstone and EXL Driving School where our son Nicholas started his journey at 16 learning to drive on the EXL track with David. Once he was 17 he then ventured onto the public roads with David. David is very patient and completely understood Nicholas’ needs ultimately leading to Nick passing his practical first time.The school is a great place to get behind the wheel and experience driving and David Featherstone is excellent and would highly recommend him as a driving instructor. Fantastic experience: I have Toby as my automatic instructor and she's brilliant. I am a nearly 50 and very nervous and Toby is very patient with me. I've had 2 lessons with her and in both lessons I learned a lot. She's already picked up a couple of things that made a big difference. I would highly recommend her.

Fantastic experience: This review is for David Featherstone, Automatic Instructor of the Exl driving school. David was my 3rd instructor & I can honestly say he was a completely different league to the previous two. I switched to David in the new year as my test was booked just 6 weeks away & I’d been constantly let down with lessons cancelled & I also felt I wasn’t being armed with enough knowledge & technique. I wish I’d found David from the start as I would have saved months’ of time & money & likely been ready a long time ago! David’s way of teaching was focussed & meaningful and I came away from every lesson having learned & understood new technique & with real food for thought that moulded me as a better driver. The weeks I spent learning intensively from David were absolute gold, I learned more than I had for the previous 6 months! I can’t rate him highly enough. I passed first time with just 1 minor & I thank David for giving me the skills and knowledge required to meet that standard. A truly excellent instructor!

Negative experience: Steve Cox rearranged a lesson several times despite me contacting him to arrange one. Lied saying I had not messaged when I asked for a refund. Once again said he would arrange a time for a lesson the next day. He failed to contact me. I asked for a refund again and have had no response. He has taken £80 without providing a lesson and ExL have failed to return calls made to them regarding the matter (I have called several times and no one answered. I left a message with contact information. No contact has been made). Do not recommend. Edited to note that I have since been refunded. This is much appreciated.

Fantastic experience: I had Katy as my driving instructor. She brought me to a level of driving that even though I was quite nervous while taking my driving test I was able to pass it with 3 minors. Fantastic experience: Both my brother and I had David Featherstone as our instructor and we would strongly recommend him and his service! After years of struggling to pass with the disruption of Covid, David was the perfect teacher and got me up to speed in a short time - getting my driving to a really confident level and helping me to pass. It's easy to book lessons and he is a teacher who is very attentive, focused and is invested in the results of his students.

Fantastic experience: Katy was very accommodating with teaching my son, as we needed two pick up locations for his lessons. She was the only Instructor that we could find who would help. My son loved his lessons, I would highly recommend Katy. He passed his test quickly and first time!

Negative experience: Be careful, Dave Featherstone who drives the blue Nissan, after cutting me up on the Royston roundabout due to him selecting the wrong lane, does he really have the knowledge to be teaching the future drivers on our roads???

Fantastic experience: My first driving experience was a blast. I went into it very nervous and not knowing what to expect. I was soon shown the ropes and the nerves slowly went away. It felt natural and David (my instructor) was as friendly and helpful as could be. This experience has encouraged me even more to learn how to drive and now I feel like I really can. A huge thanks to the team there and I hope I'll be back soon.

Negative experience: One star because cannot give zero! Bought a voucher for an experience in January but not been able to contact them since (now June,). Don't answer emails, phone calls, FB DMs. Are they still in business. How do I get my money back?

Fantastic experience: I had Stephanie Weston as my instructor and I’m pretty sure I won the instructor lottery with her ! I’ve had a couple of instructors in the past and I have to say that Steph blew them all out of the water. She was patient, clear and easy to talk to. Never have I felt so comfortable in a driving lesson than with Steph. I mean the proof is in the pudding, I passed my test first time with her. If you’re looking for a kind and clearly spoken instructor who makes you feel confident from your very first lesson then look no further!

WOW from us, we can’t believe what she achieved in such a short time but she was 100% ready to take this test with all the hard work you put in with her. Fantastic experience: My 16 year old had his first lesson on their training site. Instructor Tracy was excellent, and he picked it up really quickly. He thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend it to get some training in before they have to learn on today's roads.

Fantastic experience: Today I just passed my driving test. As a not British citizen, David makes my driving easier and more comfortable. Even every EXL D-S person was so nice to help me when I was looking for an instructor, or when I was still learning in the EXL area. Highly recommend! 100/10 Great instructors and great facilities for practising driving.

Negative experience: Had an instructor for my son who kept making excuses and cancelling. One day, he didn’t turn up for the lesson. Tried to contact him but he never returned my calls and we never heard from him again. I contacted EXL and they put me in touch with a new instructor, who was great. Unfortunately, the new instructor was shocked how bad the previous instructor had taught my son. This wasn’t a one off. My young niece had the same instructor. She had about 6 lessons before he stopped turning up. I did try and speak with the manager at EXL, but he didn’t reply to the messages I left. I‘m assuming this wasn’t the first complaint he’d had about this instructor.

Fantastic experience: Great instructors and great facilities for practicing driving. The instructors are all lovely and patient when teaching. My instructor called in sick for one of my lessons but they had alternative arrangements sorted within 10 minutes and I still had a great lesson. I definitely recommend this place for people wanting to learn how to drive.

Fantastic experience: ExL driving school is a fantastic choice for learning to drive. I can highly recommend my instructor David Featherstone. I totally lacked confidence when I started learning. Dave taught me to drive safely and with accuracy. He was extremely patient and would give expert instruction. He helped me to overcome my driving anxiety, and when eventually it all clicked into place, I passed my test! If you are an older learner or are nervous about driving, don’t delay. Take those first steps and book in some lessons with ExL. You won’t regret it.

Fantastic experience: We cannot recommend exl highly enough! They have a very efficient booking and payment app and our son's experience with them has been fantastic! David Featherstone is a true passmaster! He has been patient, caring and extremely safe. My son's knowledge of road safety and the need to put safety first is exceptional and it sure hasn't come from reading the Highway Code! Clearly the message of safety has been a constant theme throughout his lessons. Fantastic experience. They also do under age lessons off road which my son did before his proper lessons and I totally recommend these as a treat or for early practice.

Fantastic experience: After years of being too anxious to start my driving lessons I was then recommended Marie, after 5 months of doing lessons I passed yesterday 1st time! Marie is such an amazing instructor she made me feel so comfortable and I looked foward to each lesson. Negative experience: DO NOT LET YOUR YOUNG DAUGHTER HAVE LESSONS WITH THIS EX L After being alone in the car with one of there drivers and him coming out with disgusting inappropriate comments about woman and how they shouldn’t cover up so men can look at their bums ( not the word he used) etc also only letting her drive for 20 mins of each 2 hour lesson and that was after already changing once as the first teacher kept shouting at her then went missing for 6 weeks without a call and missing lesson my daughter is now too scared to have another lesson .TERRIBLE scary I have contacted them but they haven’t even called me back please don’t use them for the safety of your child

Fantastic experience: Very helpful. With David's help, I was able to pass first time. He was very flexible about fitting lessons in around work etc and I felt completely prepared when my test came around.

Negative experience: Waste of £100. Avoid. I paid for a £100 package and the initial double hour lesson went ok. The driver then cancelled and rearranged 3/4 times with the next lesson not for 3 weeks, whereby all knowledge and confidence had been lost. I requested a different instructor and to call myself to arrange it. Several days later my daughter received a text stating she had a lesson the next day with a different instructor and I explained she was in Germany. Thereafter all my calls were ignored or went to voicemail and no more lessons took place. I wrote twice requesting a refund for the outstanding £40 and was again ignored. If you think £100 for 3 hours driving lessons spaced weeks apart is value for money use this outfit, alternatively find a professional, reliable and courteous driving school who don’t rip people off.

Fantastic experience: Marie Hester is the best instructor I could have asked for! I wanted to go with Marie after reading all of her amazing reviews and they was not wrong. Passed first time with Marie and I am over the moon! Marie had to get me test ready in a rather short time. Every lesson was fabulous, she has the greatest personality to put you at ease and feel comfortable from day 1, great instructor wants to pass you first time as much as you do. Will truly miss our lessons but am so happy she has helped me get first time pass. Anyone looking for an all round fab driving instructor should look no further than Marie. HUGE HUGE thanks :)

Fantastic experience: Great place for kids and teenagers to learn to drive. Full real-world road layout with traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, roundabouts and hill climbs, all in the safety of a private driving school setting. Instructors are very friendly and supportive. My 13yo and 14yo loved it!

Fantastic experience: I really couldn't recommend Karl Green enough as he has had the confidence in my driving ability since day one. He has helped me pass my theory and driving test first time round even though I was so nervous. Karl has given me so much support and confidence whilst driving as he can spot your strengths and weaknesses to help you develop your driving ability. Fantastic experience: Thoroughly recommend Marie for her ability to make you feel confident behind the wheel. Without Marie’s help I never would have thought I would had passed first time. Marie made me feel comfortable and safe and helped me get passed my weakness. Always made lessons a laugh!

Fantastic experience: Amazing

Fantastic experience: This was my second attempt at choosing a driving instructor, after my first instructor not being good, and I felt like I wasted 10 hours of driving around the block. Therefore I was very cautious when looking for my next instructor. I came across David after thorough investigation from my end, and I must say I never regretted my decision. David is definitely the best instructor in town! From day one David was very calm, understanding, attentive, picking up on my weaknesses and pushing me to do my best, always. David had to revert back to basics and basically start from scratch with me, and I still hear his voice in my head whilst driving on my own. I passed the first time, after having had 34 hrs in an automatic car. David is a great teacher, and is worth every penny you pay for his time. He was available via all mediums of communication, at any point of the day, and always was very helpful. David is also a great laugh, very easy going and makes it comfortable to be in the car with him. I strongly recommend David, he is a proper instructor and he will do everything it takes to let his pupils pass. I can’t thank you enough David for the patience you had with me, whilst driving you around the bend quite literally, and for the confidence you gave me to go out there on the big day and smash it. Fantastic experience: Hello I would like to thank my instructor DAVID FEATHERSTONE as he was the one who guided me through out my lessons and motivated me to be focused and I just passed on my first attempt for my driving test.. I was so scared before my test but the WAY David taught me I was confident enough to give my best shot.. Can't thank him enough.. He is such a lovely human being as well..
