Fantastic experience: Jim was a game changer for my driving journey, he was methodical and patient yet keeping a good pace of learning.He is also quite knowledgeable so will be able to answer almost any question.

Fantastic experience: Jim was absolutely fantastic and made all the difference when learning to drive. I always felt comfortable in the car and, even when making mistakes, Jim was always incredible calm and in control of the situation. I passed first time with one minor which was entirely down to his teaching. I couldn’t recommend highly enough to use his services, this is the man you want for a driving instructor in Exeter!

Negative experience: Hevitree Road about 11.50am this morning, slow moving traffic and the instructor (no passenger) was backing off and speeding up to press on the brakes hard. Kept doing this all the way down the road u til approaching a set of lights to turn right and then tailgate literally a few inches behind my bumper, disgusting driving...no wonder there's so many bad drivers around when learning from someone like that

Fantastic experience: Just passed first time and I can only thank Jim for that. He is a phenomenal instructor; patient, calm and can also have a laugh. He doesn't mess you around and will tell you when you are ready! I found his process ideal for me. We went through a lot of the theory at the start and made sure I had a good understanding of what is required to pass, but more importantly how to be a safe on the road. He knows Exeter and the test routes very well and will make sure you have seen and dealt with the potential problem areas around Exeter until you are confident. In fact, my test route was the route he had taken me on multiple times over the last month. I could not have asked for a better instructor, absolutely thrilled to have my licence!

Fantastic experience: Jim took me from a complete beginner with plenty of nerves to a first-time pass. Even though I was not planning on taking my test in Exeter initially, he dedicated his time and effort to me, with very informative and helpful lessons, with a structure that evidently works. By the time I got a late cancellation, Jim showed confidence in me to get me through the test, making sure I was as relaxed and confident as I could possibly be. Overall, I could not have dreamt of a better instructor in my position, would strongly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Jim was an incredible driving instructor. He is very patient with you but funny and relaxed and says it how it is. He has a great way of teaching, explaining things to you so you understand why you do them, rather than simply doing them for the sake of it. He made me feel so comfortable so that I was confident in my driving by the time I took my test, so that I passed first time with no worries. Jim is definitely worth the money!!!!

Fantastic experience: I passed my driving test first time with Jim, having had two instructors previously and I could not have done it without him. He eliminated all my bad driving habits and went through every single detail thoroughly which was incredibly helpful. Fantastic experience: Jim is the best possible instructor I could have asked for! I was a very nervous person when it came to learning to drive and jim knew exactly how to manage that when it came to teaching, am also very forgetful but he somehow had ways to make sure I remembered everything I needed to become a safe driver, I passed my test in December and I have slowly progressed to become a confident driver on my own! Fantastic experience: I couldn’t recommend Jim more. He is extremely patient, explains things really well and makes you feel completely at ease. He covers each aspect of the driving course thoroughly and only moves when you are 100% comfortable with what you have just learnt. Despite my lack of confidence he was very supportive of my driving throughout and thanks to him I passed first time!

Fantastic experience: Well what can I say. Booking and taking my driving test has not been the most straightforward experience and it's been a long journey due to Covid, but Jim has been fantastic throughout and so supportive. He is to the point and ensures that your lessons are enjoyable - I can't recommend him enough. I will miss my lessons but am so glad to be on the road at last!

Fantastic experience: Passed my test first time in Exeter thanks to Jim! I was really anxious about starting my driving lessons, but Jim is always very calm and laid back (and funny!) and will always put you at ease even if you're very nervous. He's very good at breaking everything down so that it's easy to understand what you need to do and how, and over time you build up good habits and the confidence to drive. Fantastic experience: Can't recommend Jim highly enough after just passing my test first time with one minor after a weeks course. His teaching methods are clever, effective and organised. I genuinely think they made the difference for me - there is so much to take in on a course like this but Jim planned and broke everything down in a way which was much easier to digest than I expected it to be. And he's also a very nice bloke, which helps! 10/10!

I really like Jim’s teaching and explaining style as he incorporates various methods using practical visual sketches, photos and videos. Jim passionately, with a sense of humour, breaks down the manoeuvre procedures and makes them really simple. Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Jim from 2nd2None Driving School, Exeter 5*+++ From the get go, Jim made me feel completely at ease with his style of teaching and he was quickly able to identify my weak areas / bad driving habits which we worked out over the course of a few lessons. Jim would break down and simplify the manoeuvres, along with making you understand the mechanics of the car so it wasn't just 'push down the clutch, and change gear,' - he would make sure you really understood what was being asked of you and the hazards that come along with it. I looked forward to each lesson, and feel that I have learnt far more than the basics to be a confident driver. Huge thanks to Jim for being patient, encouraging, reliable and professional!

Fantastic experience: TLDR: Despite being extremely anxious about learning to drive, I found Jim from 2nd2None an amazing instructor and I really can't recommend him enough. I've just passed my test after 30 hours of lessons with Jim, now feeling fully confident in my ability to drive on my own. Full Review: Before starting with Jim from 2nd2None, I was extremely apprehensive about learning to drive. I'd had some lessons with several instructors before and didn't ever really enjoy the experience. Partially due to anxiety about driving, I used to try and come up with last-minute excuses to cancel lessons so that I wouldn't have to do them. Fortunately, this wasn't the case when learning with Jim. Jim made every lesson enjoyable - partially due to his personality and always being in good humour, as well as through the supportive, but challenging lesson structure he guides you through. Jim wants you to pass as soon as possible, whilst also making sure you are fully prepared for your test - at no point did I ever feel like I was being 'held back' for the sake of having to do more lessons, which I had heard about from friends regarding their own instructors. The lessons offered extremely good variety in terms of routes we drove, often straying beyond Exeter's normal 'test routes' for the sake of an extra challenge, to build further confidence. Having had 7 (pretty terrible) hours of lessons before signing up with 2nd2None, Jim got me through my test (a first time pass) in 30 hours of lessons. Realistically, had I not been so anxious about it, I probably could have passed sooner - I just wanted the extra hours behind the wheel with Jim to settle my nerves. From September, my girlfriend will be learning to drive, which she is also quite apprehensive about. Having experienced how great Jim was for building up my confidence and enjoyment in driving, I will be 100% sending her to learn at 2nd2None. Overall, I can't recommend Jim from 2nd2None enough. He's a quality instructor and a top bloke. I'm just a little bit sad that I don't get to sit in a car with him for two hours a week to chat, whilst we whip around the busy roads of Exeter, having now passed my test.

Fantastic experience: Recently passed my test with Jim from Exeter and I 100% recommend him!! He was very professional and would always plan lessons to what I needed to work on and would always ask what I would like to do. He kept me calm and gain confidence in driving. Fantastic experience: I recently passed with Jim in Exeter. I 100% reccomend him as a driving instructor he was very professional and kept me calm throughout every lesson and made me feel confident and ready when approaching my test. Negative experience: On a whole the quality of Jim's instructing was good, I have felt like I have improved and I have made some good progress. However, there have been occasions where he made misogynistic comments towards myself and women in general, comments about my clothes and my appearance which did not make me feel comfortable. He was generally quite rude and constantly swears. Instead of being taught how to drive, I was taught routes and expected to just learn the routes for the test, instead of being taught how to be a safe driver. During the lessons, all you do is drive around in a circuit which is very boring and not challenging after the 3rd or 4th go Also, we had arranged for him to meet me at university for one of our lessons and he turned up at my house instead! And claimed that he broke the speed limit and went through various red lights in order to meet me at university, this is not a quality I expect from a driving instructor. Another time, he was 30 minutes late to a lesson with no prior warning and when I questioned him about it, he made it seem as if I had got the timing wrong when in fact I hadn't! During one lesson, I slowed down to allow a cat to cross the road, as a result he told me off and said that I should have run the cat over instead! I would not recommend this instructor, especially if you are a young female!
