Fantastic experience: I passed my driving test today, 1st time!! And I owe it all to Matt Shurmer Driving School! I can't begin to explain how happy I am! I found Matt when I searched for automatic driving lessons in my area (Orpington/Bromley) and he happened to live close and had availability, so the date was set for my very first driving lesson ever!! I must admit I was nervous, as not only am i nearing the end of my thirties, but with my ADHD I can struggle to retain certain information and had never ever driven before! I knew almost immediately that he was the instructor for me! Matt was wonderfully patient and calm and he really put me at ease from that very first lesson. He really made the learning experience itself easy to grasp with his understanding and patient style of teaching, we also had plenty of laughs along the way! I didn't think passing my test would be bitter sweet but I am truly going to miss our lessons so much! Learning to drive has honestly been (and probably always will be) one of the loveliest experiences I've had in my life mostly due to my wonderful instructor. I honestly cannot recommend Matt Shurmer Driving School enough!! Thank you Matt for everything!! (I'll see you soon for the motorway lesson!)

Tom was having difficulty learning to drive with his previous instructor, but the decision to change from manual to automatic was life changing and completely changed the whole experience. Fantastic experience: Having my driving instructor also be my dad made driving really fun as not only did I get to learn a really valuable skill that I will now have forever but we also had some really nice quality time together. Fantastic experience: I was searching for automatic driving lessons in Orpington when I came across Matt's website. I liked that he was local so would have good knowledge of the area where I would be taking my test. I would highly recommend Matt as I was very anxious about driving and he was always kind and patient and made me feel comfortable at all times. Fantastic experience: I took automatic driving lessons for the Sidcup test route with Matt and I can’t emphasise enough how much of a great instructor he is. I came from learning with an inattentive instructor who made me feel very uncomfortable and knocked my confidence. Matt’s calm and kind demeanour was refreshing and made me feel instantly more confident. I looked forward to our little chats during my lessons and always appreciated the interest he took in what I had to say. He is very patient and teaches you loads of little driving/manoeuvre hacks (which will also come in handy on your test day!). Fantastic experience: Matt Shurmer (Automatic Driving Lessons in Orpington BR5) really is a class above the rest! Both of my daughters have the required enthusiasm and really want to drive to further their independence. We initially used a manual driving instructor but for various reasons this just wasn’t working out for either of them. So I started my search for an automatic driving instructor and Matt came highly recommended from one of his ex pupils who had recently passed their driving test thanks to Matt. Personally I don’t have much faith in most big named companies as they lack that ‘personal touch’ so I’m always on the lookout for a small business who I know will provide the level of care needed and a little bit more.. You can trust Matt Shurmer to provide the best structured driving lessons, as after just a few lessons both my daughter’s were telling me just ‘how good he is’ and that they wished we had found Matt much earlier as they had learnt so much more in a shorter time with Matt, and that he is just so patient, calm, confident and professional with his trainee’s and thus his confidence then transfers across to the learner! Fantastic experience: Matt has been amazing from start to finish. I started with very little experience and was a very nervous driver. Matt during my lessons knew exactly how to get the best out of me. Even if I did take it to heart if I did something wrong . But every lesson we powered through. on the 30th of Jan I passed my test with no faults. For me it is life changing as having 2 kids with no car is very hard. Being able to drive will give me my independence and the ability to make my life a lot easier as I find public transport difficult. Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend Matt highly enough if you’re looking to learn to drive … my daughter was anxious going into learning to drive but Matt put her at ease and was very accommodating with a cancelled test (due to Queens funeral) and my daughter having to return to university.. they picked up again when she returned for Christmas and Matt made it his priority to make sure she was ready for her rescheduled test. Fantastic experience: Around this time a year ago I was looking for automatic driving lessons in the Orpington area (BR6) and I came across the Matt Shurmer Driving School, and I honestly could not be any happier that I did. As a man in my late 30s who didn’t have a great history with driving (having tried learning a few times unsuccessfully in the past) I had almost given up hope; I had created a mental block that meant even the thought of driving made me feel very nervous and anxious, so had resigned myself to the fact that I would never be a driver. Fantastic experience: I was looking for automatic driving lessons for myself around the Petts Wood area (BR5) and I am so happy that I chose to have my automatic driving lessons with Matt. I was not a natural driver at the beginning when I chose to have manual driving lessons and I am not good at multitasking. That's why I decided to change to the automatic driving lessons. I am happy that Matt was really supportive when I approached him about transferring from manual to automatic and found that Matt is an amazing instructor too! I built up my confidence with his help and he is so professional, informative, claim and friendly who makes me feel very comfortable and confident. Approaching the test itself, we did a lot of mock tests and practiced the sidcup test routes. That really helps because the road out of the centre leads to a roundabout that is difficult for learners. And there are a few narrow roads in sidcup that should be paid attention to. I also struggled with driving test nerves. Matt shared with me the most effective techniques for banishing driving test nerves and as result, I became a calm and confident driver during my test. And the route for the test today is exactly the same as we practiced with no surprise which made me more calm. I was so happy to pass my driving test today with three minors for the first time. Fantastic experience: I’m based in Sidcup (DA15) and went with Matt for my automatic driving lessons. I started learning to drive later in life (34 y/o) as I had been so nervous to try driving when I was younger. Matt instantly put me at ease and always helped me to feel in calm and in control when behind the wheel. I also found out I was pregnant with my first child when I started lessons so being able to pass my test became even more important and time constrained! Fantastic experience: I decided to approach Matt Shurmer Driving School as they had great reviews and were local to my area. Neil C was my instructor and was brilliant. He was patient with me but always tried to get me to step outside my comfort zone (Ruxley roundabout was my particular nemesis!). Lessons were well-structured but relaxed and he helped to put me at ease when I was at the controls. It took me a while to work up the courage to book my test but I'm glad I finally did as I passed today (first time!) with just six minors. So thanks to Matt & Neil - I would 100% recommend them.

Fantastic experience: Matt Shurmer…..great guy, better driver. When I arrived here as a tiny immigrant from the U.S. I couldn’t read or write. The American education system had failed me. Upon hearing my plight, Matt went into action and taught me how to tie a bow tie single handed. This would prove invaluable in my subsequent job interviews. After teaching me how to write my name we decided it was time to learn to drive, the only caveat was I didn’t know which way was left, I knew right….just not left. The lessons were smooth….the car was automatic. Once I had learned the finer points of not driving on the sidewalk I was set. Obeying the speed limit turning right and left without issue. The extra effort Matt put into helping me learn to read proved very useful when figuring out the road signs. In summary all I have to say is that this is the best driving instructor you could hope for, constant laughs, constructive feedback and great value for money….even though I haven’t paid him yet it’s fine….just point at a bird and you can distract him before you have to pay. Seriously thanks Matt.

Fantastic experience: I got in touch with Matt in July 2021 about having some refresher driving lessons in the BR2 area. After 20 years of not driving, and never driving in the UK, I was extremely anxious about getting behind the wheel and I realised that it had been seriously influencing how I lived my life. I texted Matt from the railway station before 7 am on a Saturday morning when I realised that had I been willing to drive to my destination I could have still been in bed! From first contact Matt was professional and encouraging, sending me loads of resources to read and work with before our first session and prompt in his replies. When we got down to the actual practical sessions, he had just the right mix of taking me outside my comfort zone, but also continually reassuring me so that I always felt safe and encouraged. Fantastic experience: Driving lessons in Swanley BR8. I was absolutely blown away with Matt and his teaching skills. I passed my test first time with 0 faults – something I never thought possible. Matt brings a lovely mix of friendliness & professionalism. When I started learning to drive I started in a manual car and I felt really unconfident. I spoke to Matt to say I wasn’t sure if I didn’t enjoy driving or if it was because I couldn’t get along with the clutch. Matt took me out for a trial to see how I was in an automatic and we got along instantly and I felt confident learning to drive with him. Matt has a true talent for teaching people how to drive, he breaks everything down into easily manageable chunks so he doesn’t overwhelm you and gets you to repeat it until you’re confident. He didn’t teach me to pass my test, he taught me to be a confident driver and I couldn’t have done it without him. Matt is also great value for money, the knowledge he gives you and the extra’s e.g. help passing your theory test are really useful. Fantastic experience: I had Karen as my instructor, I chose Matt Shurmer as my driving school as they were local to me and had a wide flexibility of hours that they could offer. Learning to drive was an amazing experience and I looked forward to every lesson I had. My instructors teaching methods were clear and easy to pick up so I didn’t have many issues becoming confused. I would recommend both Karen and the school to my friends in the future as I think their teaching methods are one of the most effective ways to learn how to drive. There was a slight loss when payments were made as it took a while to come through however it never stopped me having one of my lessons at the right tome. And thankfully I passed first time with only 4 driver faults!

Fantastic experience: I was recommended Dean Wyatt through a family friend. Learning to drive with Dean was such a good experience in so many different ways, for instance, Dean never did any manoeuvres or types of road without me being comfortable to do them, helped me with bits and bobs that I was struggling with during lessons, on the run up to my theory, he’d ask questions relating to the theory whilst doing general driving. I have recommended Dean to so many of my friends who live in the Orpington area and also on Facebook groups and pages! :)
