Fantastic experience: Having recently taken my DAS course here over 4 days with Ian and Paul i'd have to say their training is second to none, both are amazing instructors that make you feel relaxed and at ease whilst in control of these powerful machines. Thanks to their wealth of knowledge and patience i was able to pass my Mod 1 flawlessly first time and my Mod 2 with only 1 minor first time, anytime you have questions they was more then happy to go over it in as much detail as you liked, if anything was done wrong there wasnt any shouting it was a nice calm explaination of what just went wrong and how to fix or correct it for next time which again helps with the worry and nerves you have when learning that your always doing things wrong or not right, they was always on the ball with letting you know when you got things right which was a huge boost to confidence aswell. I can say with 100% certainty if anyone is looking to take any motorcycle training, Excel motorcycle training is THE place to go as youll leave thrilled, happy and amazed at what youve learnt and be a better rider for it. i will definately be back for an advanced motorcycle training course in the near future. Thanks again Ian and Paul hopefully see you guys out of the road in the near future!

Negative experience: I got in touch with Excel in Feb this year (2024) & provided my availability dates for training and testing 10 weeks in advance. In the 10 weeks, Excel could only book 7hours training over 3 days on the bike with no MOD 1 or 2 test dates. When I didn't want to wait any longer, a refund was agreed between us. Unfortunately I was refunded much less than what was agreed. All round disappointed really. Make sure you book in dates ahead & get everything in writing!! Be prepared for cancellations. 2 Stars are for good instructions given.

Fantastic experience: Ian was very patient and friendly when passing on his wealth of knowledge. From small mistakes to the larger concepts, everything is explained clearly and there is plenty of practice to really nail the techniques and control needed to ride safely and pass the tests. If there is anything you’re struggling with, he takes the time to run through it and give helpful tips for improvement. The proof of Ian’s experience and skill is shown in the being able to pass both tests with a couple of minors within a week of getting on a big bike for the first time. Thoroughly recommend Excel for all your motorbike training!

Fantastic experience: Ian has been a pleasure to learn and ride with throughout my training at Excel. I went from holding a CBT to holding a full category A license within a few weeks, and what a few weeks it has been! The wealth of knowledge Ian provided was fantastic, from proper lane usage to solid decision making to the fine details of safety. Outside of training, Ian will probably take you to a couple of local businesses to grab a drink and something to eat, which exposes you to some awesome places locally. You’ll also meet some very friendly fellow trainees, too. In terms of practice for Mod 1 and 2, Ian allowed me to have plenty for each before the time of the tests themselves, so that was great too! Overall, great school to achieve your Mods at - I’m looking forward to returning to Ian for the Enhanced Rider Scheme.

Fantastic experience: After some other bad experiences with motorcycle trainers I ended up calling Ian and training with him at Excel. The training was everything I could have asked for, he was extremely helpful and answered all of my novice questions without making me feel silly. I would highly recommend Excel to any new beginner riders looking to pass their test quickly and efficiently, I feel I've left the week with good skills, knowledge and foundations to build upon. I couldn't have asked for any better.

Fantastic experience: I have spent around 6 days with both Ian and Barry, learning how to ride from scratch. I couldn’t recommend them enough, they both know exactly what they’re talking about and their love for riding is clear in their work! If you are even considering learning to ride I wouldn’t look anywhere else for instructors

Fantastic experience: Before training with Excel I’d already failed my Mod2 a couple of times. Luckily Excel had a cancelation and managed to fit me in very quickly. After 5 hours of training they’d ironed out my my troubles and I passed with three minors. It’s difficult to know good from bad instructors until you get a good one. Thank you Excel!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend!! Excell Motorcycle Training cares about the safety of motorcyclists, they are ridged with their training no short cuts are taken. Id never ridden a bike before and had no confidence when I started. Ian is a patient and calm man that will adapt his teaching style to suit the student. He doesn’t get frustrated or annoyed if you don't learn quickly. I now have my license but also the confidence to be on the road on my own thanks to Ian.

Fantastic experience: Ian was my Mentor for IAM Masters training. I’d only met him briefly once before, when he was the examiner for my IAM entry test and that was all fine. As a Mentor he was patient and calm; no fuss, no bother. Mistakes were corrected quietly, precisely and, above all, patiently. I feel that’s really important, particularly in a high risk situation like motorcycling where a bad reaction can trigger anxiety and loss of concentration. He picked up weak spots in my riding and his corrective advice was on the ball, again no fuss, no bother. Personally I found him very friendly, always happy to chat about the wider aspects of motorcycling. He’s extremely knowledgable on biking in general. Rides usually finished up at bike locations around the area, some I’d never heard of! All in all, a really positive experience. I’ll definitely be going back to him annually for a refresher

Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic week with Ian, using one of Excel’s bikes. I had no previous riding experience and completed my CBT, Mod1 and 2 tests. Ian is a fantastic instructor and made me feel completely at ease at all times. He’s incredibly supportive and you can tell he’s extremely passionate about riding and teaching others to ride safely (rather than to pass their tests).
