Fantastic experience: I still can’t believe I passed my driving test first time with Jewel Control Driving School! I started with zero experience and so many nerves, but my instructor was unbelievably patient, kind, and supportive. Every lesson built my confidence. I’m beyond grateful — truly the best experience ever!

His teaching style was clear and supportive, which gave me the confidence I needed on the road. Best part of my lessons was Poppy I’m really going to miss her! I’d highly recommend him to anyone learning to drive – an amazing instructor and a wonderful experience all round.

Fantastic experience: I just passed my driving test today and couldn’t have done it without Steve Shirley. He is incredibly patient and has a really unique teaching style that makes learning enjoyable and stress-free. Steve taught me all the fundamentals clearly and built my confidence step by step. Also, I have to mention his lovely dog—I’ll miss seeing her during my lessons! Such a warm and welcoming touch that made the whole experience even better.

Fantastic experience: I’m beyond grateful to Stephen Shirley for his excellent guidance in helping me pass my driving test at the Gosforth Driving Centre today. Stephen is an outstanding instructor—strict when necessary, but exactly what’s needed to instill the right habits for driving safely and confidently on UK roads. His teaching approach is both thorough and effective, and I particularly appreciated how he used the tablet to explain roundabouts, making complex maneuvers much clearer. Whether you're a new driver or someone with experience driving elsewhere, I highly recommend Stephen. His patience, dedication, and expertise make all the difference. I truly can’t thank him enough for his time and commitment—he’s an exceptional instructor, and I wouldn’t have passed without his support!

Fantastic experience: Steve is an excellent instructor who makes you feel at ease behind the wheel. He provides clear instructions and also has great banter. Additionally, he has very good knowledge of what DVLA examiners expect when it comes to the driving test. Steve has been very patient with me and was adept at identifying and improving areas of weakness in my driving, prior to me passing my test with zero minors. If you want to have the best preparation for your test and to possess confidence when driving, I recommend you to contact Steve!

Fantastic experience: Steve, is a great driving instructor. His encouragement and friendly nature, is something that made me really follow through with learning to drive. One thing that never leaves my head now when I drive is his voice telling me to change gears, plus he has the most adorable little dachshund to accompany all your learning

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Steve as a driving instructor. When I first started lessons with him last summer, my confidence was on the floor and I’d always dread driving lessons. However, that dread soon wore off as Steve is a very calm and positive instructor, and would always make me go back and do the roundabout that I stalled on the next lesson thank you Steve, I will never forget “where’s the pavement!!!” when doing a parallel park.

Fantastic experience: Super friendly and patient instructor. Also when you drive with Steve you can always have some good laughs conversations and there is a good company sausage dog behinds the back seat help inspecting your driving skills.

Fantastic experience: Recommended! Steve is a highly experienced and effective driving instructor. I had 20 hours of lessons with him and then managed to pass first time at the Gosforth test centre, despite not being very confident at the start. He really pushed me to get the fundamentals right and ensured that no lesson time was wasted. Excellent instructor!
