Fantastic experience: Can't recommend Andrew enough; very friendly, patient, supportive and professional, and covers the content at an appropriate pace. He's great at explaining the theory behind the practice, making complex scenarios and manouvres much easier to understand. I credit him wholly for my first-time pass, despite my having had almost no time out-of-lessons to practice. Having trained with other instructors previously, there's no comparison!

Fantastic experience: Andrew is a superb driving instructor who shows great patience and calmness, even in the stressful situations that learning to drive can often bring. I felt at complete ease under his tuition and made steady progress throughout my lessons. He is a very experienced instructor who gives you a structured way of learning and is very good at explaining things in a relatable way. For example, for manoeuvres or understanding the principles of defensive driving. If you are a nervous learner, you will always be in safe hands with Andrew.

He has been so patient and kind, and is willing to go the extra mile for his students. He always encouraged me when I was unsure of my ability, and gave me the necessary skills to pass. Takes great care to explain and ensure you understand why you're doing what you're doing, and I'm a better driver for it. Also very flexible/accommodating with lesson length & timing. Passed first time under Andrew's excellent instruction.

Negative experience: Tried to reach many time via different channels (phone calls, text messages and email) to inquire and book driving lessons. After many days without any response, received a text message asking my availability. After answering and following up I am still left unanswered… I am very upset and disappointed

Fantastic experience: I would recommend Andrew to anyone looking to learn to drive and pass the test. He is excellent, one of the best instructors in Oxford. I drove with other instructors, before I started taking lessons with him, with no success, it was a waste of time and money. You might find it slow at the start, but just stay with Andrew! His teaching is structured, he is following a very effective programme he's developed, which covers all aspects of the driving and road safety. Andrew will prepare you well for the driving part of test and for manoeuvring. He will explain in detail and practise with you every aspect of each of the tested manoeuvres. I passed the test on the 1st attempt with him. Once you passed the test, you will start driving independently with confidence, because you were well trained!

Fantastic experience: Very patient instructor and teaches you not just how to pass the test but also how to be a safe road user in the future. Prices are good and the lessons and thorough. I found Andrew very flexible with pick up points and cancellations and would recommend. Also, I passed my test first time so that speaks for itself!

Andrew was the perfect choice of driving instructor: he takes a calm and patient approach, he is positive and understanding, he is friendly and easy to talk to. What’s more, Andrew’s teaching ensures a good grasp of the basics and control of the car before moving on to the riskier aspects of driving. This approach was perfect for me and Andrew’s training not only allowed me to pass my test on the first attempt but also has set me up to be a confident driver every day. On top of being an excellent driving instructor, Andrew is a genuinely lovely man, it's nice to feel comfortable and have a chat with him as you're driving around Oxford. Fantastic experience: Andrew is a great instructor, I spent many months with him and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent driving around Oxford. I was particularly impressed with his calm attitude and attention to detail which I believe really aided the learning process. I managed to pass my driving test first time thanks to him. It seems prices in oxford are quite high for driving lessons, but Andrew offers very good competitive rates and I highly recommended learning with him as he will ensure that you know everything you need to know. He can be very busy so it’s always good to book lessons in advance!

The lessons start slowly and build until you feel confident enough to tackle any situation on any road. I started having had very little previous experience. Fantastic experience: Andrew is a patient, friendly and methodical instructor, who is exceptionally generous both with his time (as far as availability will allow- he is justifiably popular!) and his advice. As someone who was by no means a natural or confident driver, and who found all aspects of driving challenging, Andrew was unfailing patient and encouraging- he even put back his family holiday by a day to accommodate my test date! I would not hesitate to recommend Andrew to anyone; he is an outstanding instructor, who prioritises safety and complete mastery of the basics, but more importantly, he made our lessons, and driving full stop, enjoyable.

Positive experience: Andrew was very calm & helped me to relax when learning. Maybe could have proceeded slightly 'faster' it felt, but by the end I felt so comfortable driving & I am sure that is the reason why. Passed (over a year ago) with just the two minors which reflected the learning process.

Fantastic experience: As an Oxford DPhil student who had trouble learning to drive at home in London, I would highly recommend Andrew Usher if you are looking to learn to drive while studying in Oxford. Andrew is _excellent_ at ensuring your safety in the car, and at making you feel confident and at ease on the road. He was especially relaxing to talk to on my two test days (I was exceptionally unlucky on the first!). Andrew is a very nice man and was never over-critical of my faults. I feel like a very competent new driver after passing with Andrew. Although you will have more lessons than the average learner with Andrew (I probably had about 80 hours over a 7 month period with no private practice), he will give you an incredibly thorough grounding in the essentials of car control. Do not be put off if you are not on the main roads after 10-15 hours with Andrew, even if you have done some lessons elsewhere before. This is all part of Andrew's game plan to ensure you leave him with a skill for life, not just for the test. My only slight gripes with Andrew are that he is very popular and has a long waiting list, meaning that it was sometimes hard to get lessons in! He also has young unruly children, which has meant slashing half an hour or cancelling my AM lessons on a couple of occasions! Further, he doesn't offer a mock test service or the pass plus, which I would have liked to do with him. Despite these minor gripes, I can't fault Andrew at all for the standard of his instruction. Although his prices are a little on the high side, the cost is worth it, as if you choose Andrew you will receive excellent quality tuition from a safe, friendly and genuinely caring instructor. If you put the time and work in with him, I'm confident he will make sure that you pass, and pass well!

Fantastic experience: A patient, methodical, and friendly instructor. I couldn't have asked for better! He takes his time, so he's not the best choice if you think you know how to drive, but he is great at building confidence in those of us not at ease on the roads.

He goes slowly to start with (which can drive you a bit bonkers) but it pays off, as suddenly everything falls into place. He teaches you how to drive for life, not just to pass the test, and how to do manoeuvres in any car, not just his. Can't recommend him highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Andrew is an extremely nice man and an accomplished driving instructor. He ensures you have excellent control of the vehicle and therefore allows you to feel confident both in driving around the city and in mastering the manoeuvres necessary to pass the UK driving test. Andrew is extremely flexible both in the timings of driving lessons and in pick-up and drop-off locations. He clearly cares about his students' progression and welfare. He takes time to carefully explain the different aspects of driving as you progress through the syllabus. I would highly recommend Andrew to learn to drive with in Oxford. What set him apart as a driving instructor, in particular, was his gentle and calming influence and his constant positive outlook both on driving and on life in general.

Fantastic experience: Andrew is an incredible driving instructor. I've had other instructors in the past and none had made me feel as calm or capable as Andrew did. Not only does Andrew give you the skills and prepare you very well for passing your test he also focuses on providing you with the skills for after passing the test so you can be a calm, capable and safe driver once you have passed. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Andrew is a fantastic driving instructor. From my first lesson right up to passing my test he made sure he put me at ease. He's the first instructor I've had who has really focused on ensuring you're in control of the car and feel confident in what you're doing. Though it may seem like a slow process at first, once you master the basics with him you'll progress rapidly. An absolutely brilliant instructor and I can't recommend him highly enough!

Fantastic experience: I am so glad that I booked driving lessons with Andrew. He’s an extremely patient and kind man, was flexible about timings of lessons, was reassuringly well-organised, explained the concepts of driving clearly, and, above all, made me feel safe and in control behind the wheel from the start. My main aim in having driving lessons was to pass my test (obviously!) but also to be a competent and confident driver for the future. Andrew helped me to prepare fully for both the test itself and driving in different conditions and situations more generally. The prices for his lessons are also extremely competitive. As a learner driver I could not imagine finding a better or nicer instructor – go ahead and book him!

Fantastic experience: Andrew was a fantastic instructor. On our lessons we had some very odd events happen (like someone reversing back up a slip road) and whenever these things happened Andrew kept control of the situation. I always felt comfortable even when doing the harder parts of driving. He also pushed me to do the things I felt hard, not what felt easy, and I think because of this I was able to pass my test first time.

Fantastic experience: Andrew was the perfect instructor, particularly for someone who - like me - didn't take to driving naturally. He was calm and patient, and created a very safe environment in the car. He prepared me excellently for the test, but the test was not his only focus, and I think the skills he has taught me have made me a much safer driver than I would have been without his help.

Fantastic experience: I recently learnt to drive with Andrew, who I was recommended by a friend who also learnt to drive with him. I found Andrew to be kind, patient and extremely helpful - he made lessons enjoyable and built up my confidence to approach any situation calmly and safely. I was also the student used for his driving instructor assessment with the DVLA, where he achieved perfect marks - so he is also officially recognized as a great instructor. I passed the driving test first time and also have had a motorway lesson with him - I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic instructor!! Clam and patient, makes you feel very comfortable behind the wheels. Aims to perfect every single action you perform while driving. Fantastic experience: Andrew is a very good driving instructor, progress was a little slow to begin with but this was because he wanted to the basics perfect, including routines such as checking mirrors, changing gears correctly, hand positions on the steering wheel, etc , ultimately the meticulous preparation meant that I passed my driving test first time and I couldn't thank him any more for that.

Positive experience: Andrew was unfailingly kind, patient, and hard-working in getting me (a thoroughly terrified driver) into a state of roadworthiness. Fantastic experience: Andrew is a very good teacher who covers the basics very thoroughly but also moves the student on to encourage road awareness and bring you to a level of confidence in handling the car in various conditions. He is relaxed but alert which made me feel less nervous but also confident in his ability to handle situations that could arise out of mistakes I made. He was very good at discerning what I was doing wrong and then working on that particular area to achieve a better standard. He is a very experienced instructor with many years in the job and so has developed skills that really helped me to pass but also offer wisdom on how to be safe on the road.
