James Burton Driving Instructor

Fantastic experience: James is such a fantastic instructor who is flexible and always trying to accommodate to help fit lessons in around my work and family life. He's always on time and maximises learning in lessons with it tailored to each pupil.  He is very patient, he explains things in such a way that makes it easy to understand. As someone who came back to driving having failed with someone else previously a long time ago, I was extremely nervous and was dreading my first lesson. However, James made me feel so at ease and I began to enjoy driving. Thanks to James for being fantastic at what he does, I passed my test with so much confidence and knowledge around driving. I'm so grateful! Thank you James!

Fantastic experience: James is a great instructor! He was super friendly and clear from the get go. When I first started, I had no prior experience and was so nervous and anxious. I couldn't imagine being where I am now. What I really appreciated about the way James teaches is the amount we reflect on experiences - pausing to talk about what we have experienced, what went well, what could have been improved etc. I found this a really helpful technique for learning and improving. James teaches you how to be a good, safe and confident driver as opposed to just passing the test. He's kind and patient, and easy to talk to which made lessons with him enjoyable. He's also considerate and flexible with timings and tries to make it as easy for you as possible. It's going to feel weird not seeing him every Monday morning now!

Fantastic experience: Learnt to drive with James in the space of 4 months! He's an excellent instructor. Was easy learning to drive with James, hes calm, friendly and very organised. Lessons are booked in far in advance, always on time, and will always try to help move your lessons around if changes come up last minute. When I was looking for instructors across Brighton James was the first to put me on his waiting list and was able to give me a time frame when he would have availability and I could start, and moreover he books your test in for you, aiming for a time you'll be ready which takes the stress off there as well. I'd highly recommend learning to drive with James

Fantastic experience: I started having lessons with James about 5 weeks before my test. (I had some previous experience). He’s a quality instructor, and more importantly a top bloke! I passed the test first time - As many of his clients do I believe. This is owing to his ability to quickly identify your mistakes, and very clearly explain how to remedy them. Fantastic experience: Although I have driven for 25 years overseas including on-track driving, I did not anticipate the rules in the UK to be so different and the driving on the left side of the road to be so disorientating. Fantastic experience: Very comfortable taking lessons with James Burton as friendly and straightforward especially to the most important point in driving and following rules. He will let you know what needed to be done and technically driving safety hazards to other road users and road signs etc… last of all, just want to say without James Burton I will not pass the test in less than 2 months (NOT A SINGLE MINOR FAULT) and this is the best Christmas Presents ever!!! From the very first moments when I enquired about lessons, he went above and beyond to provide brilliant advice and teaching around learning to drive, which carried through all the way through our lessons and to me recently passing my practical test. I could not have asked for a more patient and amiable tutor and genuinely looked forward to each lesson, even being able to have a laugh sometimes (when his jokes were not too terrible!) James' professionalism was superb and he would always arrive on time (or even early), never cancelled a lesson, and was highly organised with his scheduling and planning regarding lesson times and test bookings etc. I honestly could not recommend James highly enough as a driving instructor and really look forward to starting my journey as a new driver with a good level of confidence behind the wheel following his teaching!

Fantastic experience: I needed a refresher lesson after several years without a car, and James was kindly able to fit me in at short notice. He took the time to assess my needs over the phone, and designed a lesson that covered all the main areas I needed over 2 hours. His approach is calm and friendly, and I quickly felt my confidence returning as we drove around. As I'll be using a hire car, he tailored the lesson to focus on getting to know a new vehicle, which was really helpful. Overall I'm very glad I invested in the lesson instead of just winging it, and would highly recommend James to anyone looking for a driving instructor!

I already knew how to drive, but needed to get used to the UK rules, he was great at adjusting the lessons to suit my weak points. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend James to anyone learning to drive. As someone who was quite anxious about learning to drive and driving on the roads in general. James was able to help me gain confidence and the skills to become a safe and skilled driver, which resulted in a 1st time pass.

Fantastic experience: James was a great instructor, he had great pacing going from the basics up to self sufficient driving, was really helpful for when it came to getting a test in a timely fashion (which is currently difficult due the covid backlog) and also ensured not only are you ready to pass the test but that you are a good and considerate driver. He's very organised and always communicated well outside of lessons. Finally he's a great guy to spend many hours in car with. Really happy with how I progressed under his tutelage and would heartily recommend.

Fantastic experience: It’s not been the easiest 12 months to learn to drive with the complications of Covid. My son passed his test first time and I put this down to James, his driving instructor. James made my son feel relaxed from the first lesson and they built up a good rapport together. Charlie became a confident driver in quick time, learning so much in every 2 hour lesson.
