Fantastic experience: Can’t quite believe I got so lucky finding Ashley. From the first lesson, I loved it. He was calm and kind and funny and his guidance was always considered and pertinent. As a primary school teacher, it was easy to see how brilliant he is at teaching even though our fields are so different. He helped me pass first time and I can’t wait to do the Pass Plus with him as well. Couldn’t be more grateful to him, I am certain with someone else teaching me I wouldn’t have gained such confidence and enjoyment.

Fantastic experience: I passed my driving test 1st time this week all thanks to everything Ashley has taught me. Ashley is simply amazing at what he does and I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor. As an American driver with a licence that expired 5 years ago, he made me feel SO comfortable driving in a very busy city and I passed my test on the first time! He tailored every lesson for my needs and was patient and welcoming every hour I was behind the wheel.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Portland driving school enough! Ash is an incredible instructor, he is patient and thorough and really makes sure you understand road safety not just to pass your test but for later on when you are driving independently. He makes every lesson fun and never EVER puts you down for making mistakes, he plans every lesson really well and they are completely tailored and structured. After a first failed attempt at my test I found Ashley and he brought my confidence back up and got me test ready, I passed today with only 2 faults. Fantastic experience: Ashley provides clear instructions with great patience. Alongside general advice on how to drive the roads safely, he pinpoints, specifically, what is required to pass the test—e.g., where you loose points, what habits you should or should not develop, etc.. This was extremely useful for me. After 11 hours with Ashley I have passed my test 1st time with 3 minor faults and was feeling confident before my test. Ashley will tell you how many hours you might need in order to pass the test and once he sees improvement the hours will be reduced accordingly. I felt that Ashley is a reliable, trustworthy instructor and for that highly recommend. Thank you Ashley

Ashley puts together an individual lesson plan for you that focuses on your weaknesses, making each session feel worthwhile and helps build confidence as you can see yourself progressing week-by-week. During the lessons, Ashley will point out mistakes in a clear and calm way, explaining what you did wrong, what you can do better and most importantly, why it's an issue. Would highly recommend both Ashley and Portland Driving School. They'll teach you the skills to not only pass your test, but be a safe and responsible driver.

Fantastic experience: I really can’t recommend Darryl from Portland Driving School enough. He is so calm, patient and knowledgeable. Most importantly he notices everything meaning when you learn with him, you really learn how to drive, not just how to pass a test! He is really clear in explaining the reason behind why you should take a specific action on the road and if you have any particular concerns he will take you through those scenarios to build confidence. Since passing my test I have driven nearly everyday and luckily nothing has really phased me so far, I always have some experience from my lessons to fall back upon. I would highly recommend Darryl and the school. As a bonus he is a really friendly and funny guy so you will enjoy the lessons too!

Fantastic experience: I had driving lessons with Dave at Portland Driving School after I never got around to taking my test when I was younger. It's difficult to pass your driving test when you have to fit it in around work and everything else but thanks to Dave I passed first time! He explained everything really clearly and calmly, and taught me to drive intuitively so now I'm really comfortable in any situation because I trust my own judgement. Thanks to Dave and Portland Driving School, this month I finally achieved my dream of buying my own van to convert into a campervan. Fantastic experience: Couldn’t thank Ashley and Portland Driving School enough for finally helping me to overcome my fear of driving and successfully pass my test first time! I had initially tried to learn drive at 17 and then put it off for 15 years so I was incredibly lacking in confidence and very anxious about driving and never thought I would feel confident on the roads let alone enjoy driving! Fantastic experience: I started my first driving lesson after many years of putting it off. I was very very anxious but I was lucky to have found the most amazing driving instructor. Ashley turned me from a fearful driver to a driver who passed her driving test at first attempt with only 4 minor faults and after only 35hrs. It took me a week to write a review because it still felt surreal. Ashley worked with me within my busy schedule and managed my anxiety. He is an amazing person and does really listen even to your unspoken words. Am gonna miss my days in the driving school. Funny how I still feel like booking lessons just for the fun of it. Special thanks to Daryl who took me for my exams. Portland driving school does indeed have the most amazing team of instructors. Fantastic experience: Ashley is an excellent driving instructor. From the outset he explained clearly the rules of the road, what I needed to do and why. This made it easy to learn and progress. Often lessons had a specific focus to develop and practice a skill, before focusing on bringing it all together so I was ready for my test. This helped to develop my confidence and address any weaknesses and resulted in me passing my test at the first attempt after working with him. Our lessons on high speed roads and motorways were also really worthwhile. Although not necessary for the test itself I feel they will help me to be a safer driver. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: I can't recommend this driving school enough! After moving to a new area then barely using my car for a couple of years, I'd completely lost my confidence, especially with city and motorway driving. I decided to have a refresher lesson and thankfully chose Portland. My instructor Darryl was positive, calm, and patient, and completely restored my faith in myself in a couple of sessions. I've just driven a 300 mile round trip, and have completely got my mojo back!

Fantastic experience: I would recommend Portland driving school to anyone who’s wanting to learn to drive. I had Darryl as an instructor and he made me feel very confident and safe while driving. I started lessons with them in March, and now in August I’ve passed 1st time with only 1 minor. I cannot recommend them enough!!

Fantastic experience: Each lesson felt as though progress was made in one way or another. I had David as an instructor and passed first time with around 20 hours, he adapts to your skills rather than it being you copying the instructor. Great place to learn without a doubt.

Fantastic experience: Ash is a fantastic instructor and I'd definitely recommend him to new students looking to learn. He is calm and patient, which in turn really helps you if you begin to panic. He has taught two of my brothers and one of their girlfriends before me and I younger siblings are also looking to go with him. Fantastic experience: I’ve been learning with Darryl through the various lockdowns and he’s made a potentially difficult, stop-start learning experience a genuine pleasure. He’s always as flexible as he can be, his communication is flawless and he was super patient even when ironing out my most repetitive niggles and mistakes. I initially contacted Ashley and had Darryl as my instructor and both were thoroughly professional throughout the entire time I dealt with them. Fantastic experience: I failed a few tests with previous instructors, so didn't have much hope when I started with Portland Driving School. I didn't need to worry, Darryl was easily the best instructor I've ever had, and I finally passed my test! I'd recommend Portland Driving School to anybody.

Fantastic experience: After having a bad experience driving with a previous instructor, I was incredibly nervous to drive again. Darryl was SO great at keeping me calm and relaxed in the car (a hard feat) - instructing and explaining where I'd gone wrong in the most patient and professional manner. I ended up looking forward to my driving lesson every week, whereas before I had dreaded it! Not only did I pass first time with Portland, but I also feel confident and safe on the roads on my own!
