Fantastic experience: "Passed First Time on Both MOD1 & MOD2!" As a complete beginner, I was initially nervous, but Lightning Motorcycle Training made the whole experience outstanding! The booking and scheduling process was smooth and flexible, with clear updates from the office. I trained with several skilled instructors—Marcus, Carl, and others—each with a unique style. Carl’s guidance at the Oxford MOD1 site in the rain was invaluable, and Marcus helped me enjoy the road sessions, boosting my confidence. Thanks to them, I passed both tests on my first try! Fantastic experience: What a great place to learn! I today partook in doing my cbt and it could not of gone better. Although being a somewhat competent rider going into it I was always going to be a little comprehensive. Thankfully I was given Marcus as my instructor, a very patient and more then competent to teach any course to any skill level. Told me exactly what I needed to do, how to do it and all too a smashing success. Fantastic experience: Recently just passed my Mod 1 & 2 for my full bike licence with Lightning Pass. Thank you to Kevin for the CBT last year, James for making sure I was ready for my full licence, Rob for the Mod 1 training, Keith & Marcus for the Mod 2 training and finally Rebecca for organising the course. Everyone involved was very knowledgeable and confidence inspiring. Their training coupled with some late night Mod 2 test videos are what allowed me to get through with just 1 minor! With that being said I would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get on a motorbike!

Fantastic experience: I recently completed my CBT with Lightning Motorcycle Training. I have been impressed with the company and their professionalism. I was able to easily book the CBT and Theory with Jamie from Lightning with ease. The company has been very accommodating and there is a large amount of flexibility even though I booked CBT for the following week. I also booked my motorcycle Theory test and was offered a choice of dates and locations(availability permitting). The CBT training day was very informative, with expert knowledge and tuition provided by Rob at the Reading Rugby Club. He was extremely patient and helpful, and where students lacked prior experience, he focused on their needs. Riding a bike on the road can be dangerous and he made the experience safe and didn’t put pressure on students. I enjoyed the day and am looking forward to further training with Lightning.

Fantastic experience: A massive thank you to Lightning Motorcycle Training. After 28 years I finally decided to brave it and go for my CBT at their Reading site. After that, I was hooked and had to put in for all of my training and tests. The instructors (shoutout to Ricky and Keith) were super accommodating and patient with me, and the team were great in getting my tests booked in so quickly - I passed within a month of doing my CBT. Now, I’m out on the bike mainly every day with friends and going to bike nights/meets. Would recommend Lightning to anyone and believe a friend has already started his training and is loving it! Fantastic experience: Had an absolutely great time with these guys when I renewed my CBT yesterday. Cole was incredibly skilled and insightful which made our training significantly better than my last one (different school). Despite having 17000 miles under my belt since the last CBT, I can still walk away saying I've learned a lot from them and I'm glad I chose them. Will definitely be considering this school for my PAS.

Negative experience: Absolute shocking organisation and care from Lightning motor training. When I booked with Lightning motor cycle in reading, I thought I would be doing my test in reading but found out after on the email that it would be in Oxford. I wasn’t happy about as no one told me. I booked it in 2 weeks time and then they pulled my training and test forward which was fine, done my training on Sunday (in reading) and test was Tuesday morning in Oxford. On Tuesday I was meant to meet in reading and ride to Oxford to get the feel for the bike. The night before my test the called me to tell me that I had to make my own way to Oxford which put a massive amount of stress on on me as I don’t have a car to get to Oxford as I told them and caused a massive amount of panic and stress and because of that I didn’t sleep because I was worrying. The morning of my test I felt awful but failed the test just not thinking straight and felt like that could of been avoided if I felt like I was looked after by lighting motorcycles and made to feel at easy. instead i felt like I was panic anxious and rushed. after my test had finished they left me there waiting for an hour and a half with no phone no water no food in the sun. I’ve been riding for most of my life and had no issues. Lightning motorcycle training messed me around and I would advise going with another school even if it’s a bit more expensive, at least you will be looked after and made to feel relaxed and not set you up for failure like I feel like I have going with lightning motorcycles

Fantastic experience: Promised I would write a review! Honestly could not recommend a place more. Friendly and knowledgeable. I had Keith for an intro lesson who was very clear on what to do and patient. Todd took me on the first cbt and despite not passing, told me exactly what I needed to improve. Went with confidence into my second CBT and had Dave who was the perfect median between firm and fair but also kind and understanding. Was greatly appreciated and hopefully will be back in the near future to start my A2 journey. Thanks again guys !

Fantastic experience: Can not recommend this riding school enough ,as they will give you what they say with no fail! Always prompt and informative replies regarding ANY query. Their flexibility to accommodate the training, MODs is also outstanding. Guys at admin office are so friendly and understanding- thanks Becky, James and Sean! To do DAS A is not an easy journey so as also intense , but with the support of experienced Instructors I really felt confident to complete my journey until the very END, no matter that some tests often can take couple of attempts etc. and devastation , emotions after failing could take OVER. Big thanks to Keith ( he is my FAV ha ha) and Simon - with their support and KEY advice they shared! I am where I am today- done with the process and enjoying riding my new big bike which was one of my dreams. I will also add that this school in comparison is simply the BEST , as couple more I have tried before coming to Lightning were absolute disaster with none existent customer service , no normal/quality SITE to ride and learn properly etc. So coming to this school made me feel WOW and that I have “ wasted “ my money elsewhere….to be totally transparent here as difference is like day&night. Fantastic experience: All at lightning were so helpful along the way of me passing my test. I completed everything from my cbt to my mod - training and test to my mod 2 training and test. I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone from lighting reading.

Fantastic experience: I did my CBT through to Mod 2 (DAS) via Lightning and thoroughly enjoyed it. William, Kevin, Keith, Rob and John were all great. Firm as they should be, but fair and patient. Especially Keith and John who got me through both Mod 1 and Mod 2 without too much trouble. Thanks gents. Their loaner bikes were maintained well. I really liked the SV650s they have so ended up buying a 2nd hand V-Strom 650XT (same engine) after passing my mod 2. Thoroughly hooked now and planning rides up to Scotland, Wales and a tour of southern Spain in 2024 with friends.

Fantastic experience: I still can’t believe that in just 1 month I went from never having ridden a motorbike before to getting my full class A unrestricted license. There would be no way that would be possible without lightning and their high quality instructors: Dicky, David, Andrew, Keith and Marcus were all top tier. They can pick up on faults immediately and know the right exercises and advice to help get rid of them. There are few places in life where you can have fun, make mistakes and keep learning all at once but this is one of them.

Fantastic experience: Dave is by far the best CBT instructor I have ever had by far and I have had a few (avoid Alpha motorcycle training if you can). Very patient and clear with his instructions, I was okay but the other person with us was rusty and it was cool for me to observe the patients and care Dave has to teaching. If you read this review before going to do your training please take a tub of celebration chocolates for the office. All I can say is thanks to Dave and when I am ready for my full license I know where to go, I honestly couldn’t recommend lighting more.

Fantastic experience: The training day was very exciting, never boring as there is always something happening. The instructors make sure you know what you see doing and put your safety first. They start with the basics and are very clear to 'newbies' however detailed enough to leave no questions unanswered. Very good day and the training was fun whilst also being very effective.

Fantastic experience: Came to these guys only having CBT experience - went onto the DAS course at the Reading sites. There's a focus on drilling safe control of the bike + all the road sense and principles you'll need, really can't complain here - it can be difficult at times (as with anything new) but the instructors are great; experienced and will usually figure out how to work out any issue you may be having. Big shout out to Keith who handled most of my training, but Todd and William were also great to ride with and take tips from. Passed my Mod 1 and Mod 2 with these guys at the start of the month and loving riding my own bike despite the sun retreating and the rain coming out. :)

Fantastic experience: Went to Oxford for my CBT, the large training space was brilliant, Rob our Instructor was excellent (deserves a pay rise), very informative & explained everything clearly. He was methodical in taking us through the elements of the training & the Road Ride at the end of the day was an easy, relaxed journey that we enjoyed and didn't want to end. The Bikes they use are well maintained in great condition & are ideal for starting your 2 wheel life on. I will definitely go back for my Full Bike Course.

Fantastic experience: Quality place to get bike training. CBT, Mod 1, 2 etc. they cover it all. The trainers I met were all really nice, but the guy that lead my course - Dave, was fantastic. Diligent, articulate and genuinely cared about our safety as opposed to some places who just want to give you the certificate and get you gone. He made the modules interesting, his knowledge of the Highway Code was outstanding, and his experience of bikes was vast. He was a great person to lead the course and I really do feel more confident because of him. Thanks Dave, and Thanks Lightning!

Fantastic experience: Had a great experience doing my CBT with Lightning Motorcycle training. Dave was firm, but fair, and gave us a lot of time and space to get things right. Sometimes the frustration built up, but with a little confidence and some repetition, you end up getting things right and getting through the day. All in all, a great experience and I will soon go on to schedule my DAS training with them as well. Thank you all!

Fantastic experience: I was with lightning for my entire journey from CBT to full A2 license. Altogether a very good school with some disciplined and informative instructors, namely William, Keith, Simon, Todd, and Errol to name a few who trained me personally. Unfortunately I have dropped one star for the fact that the mod 1 training area is a repurposed car park in meroak with a lot of gravel which is not confidence inspiring; a more open area to emulate the test site would be more practical but I understand the space limitations. I also felt that the mod 2 training session undeprepared me slightly in that you are simply accompanying another student to their test and spending some time around the test centre, you will not necessarily spend any time on the test routes you find yourself taking and so a more dedicated session to the actual test routes would have prepared me more thoroughly. No complaints towards service, motorcycle hire or anything else in that regard. Ultimately I practiced the test routes independently and passed my mod 2 second time a few days ago. I am sure that with some minor improvements that Lightning could be a 5 star school, with a better mod 1 site and some more focus on training test routes. Big thanks to William and his instructors.

Negative experience: one of your Driving instructor stopped the learners in the middle of the road on the bend of a 60mph back road then started swerving all over the place to pass them, not safe way to teach students

Fantastic experience: Just got back home from my CBT. Our instructor today was Dave, and he was just BRILLIANT. The mood was light, he didn't put stress on us, but he was tough and strict on safety, which is really what you want from an instructor. We came out of the course with confidence and plenty of good advice on how to improve, ready to start our motorbike career! It's been a long, hard day, but it was worth it. Fantastic experience: I completed my CBT course on Sat 22/04 with Lightning Motorcycle Training at the Reading location. The group consisted of myself (a mature car driver, quite new to motorbikes) and two younger lads starting out fresh. Our instructor was Dave, he has a fun but authoritive approach to training. One of the lads was struggling a bit and Dave spent some extra time with him in between breaks to try and help. I can truly say Dave is an absolute legend. He wanted us all to pass and went over various parts to make sure we where clear. If you watch and listen to every word he tells you, and don't let anything distract you, you will be OK. It was so warming to see an instructor that had a genuine desire to teach and make sure we where safe. Dave is the most patient instructor and I take my hat off to him. I look forward to doing the next lot of modules for A2 and will make sure I book when Dave is available. I commuted to work on my new bike today and all of Daves training and words stuck in my mind. Fantastic experience: Recently completed my CBT on a manual motorcycle at the Reading center. My instructor was Kevin, he was very knowledgeable, patient, confidence inspiring and fun to do the course with. Enjoyed the day and learned the basics to get me on the road on my 125. Will definitely be back within the next 2 years to do my DAS!

Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend Lightning Pass enough - especially my instructor Kevin. I recently did my CBT at the Reading site after an introduction lesson with him. I felt so supported by my instructor even when I was very stressed and nervous. He took extra care in explaining things, time to listen and gave great feedback. Kevin also had the best sense of humour that kept me calm. I hope I can go on and get my full license and I’d definitely request Kevin to be my instructor again.

Fantastic experience: Had my CBT training last Saturday with Dave. The weather was not fantastic and not helpful at all as ot was raining all day but the instructro was amazing. Very patient, helpfull and had good sense of humor which helped to go through the long day. Dave is going to explain you everything 10 times if needed as he wants you to understand how everything works. I've sat on motorbye for the first time and with Dave's help I've managed to pass CBT :) im really happy about it and Dave, sorry about your phone! :) All the best to the rest of the team!

Fantastic experience: I have had an amazing training experience so far on both my CBT and road rider session! The Team at Lightning Motorcycle Training are highly professional and super enthusiastic about the training. The team are very attentive and take your safety seriously. After two days of lessons I already feel my riding confidence is back and look forward to completing the rest of my courses with the teams. A big shoutout to Robert and Toby for all your support and guidance! You have both really helped me to focus on removing my bad riding habits and honestly couldn't have had a better session! Fantastic experience: I just passed my CBT from here and my instructor was Dave (David I think) and he was the best instructor I have ever had. He was very patient with all the students and taught us really nicely. I also took an introductory lesson with Markus and he is also a very good instructor. Markus introduced me to the bike and taught me how to ride at slow speeds and Dave taught me about emergency stops, slow speed controlling, and most importantly, how to ride a bike safely on the road. I cannot recommend this school enough.

Fantastic experience: Great bike school. I’d never risen before training with lightning. I did my CBT, mod 1 training and test and mod 2 training and test all in the space of 3 months. Kevin, the instructor is the best instructor out there. He’s so compassionate and helpful with his advice. If you’re looking to train with them, try and get sessions he’s on as he’s the man you want to be training with. Other instructors are also really good.

Fantastic experience: Passed my DAS Course with lightning over the last couple of weeks. Did my CBT last year with Andy at their Reading site, which went well. Booked into a course at Reading, where they managed to find me cancellations to start a week early at their Oxford site; where I completed the road rider and MOD1 training sessions, with Jerry and Carl, who were both great. Unfortunately, through no fault of the school, I failed my Mod1 first time round, silly mistake on my part. But was booked in to retake it the next week, and was given an opportunity to practice the manoeuvre I failed on before heading over for the retake which I passed! Passed my Mod2 first time round with help from Kevin and Keith from the Reading site, who gave great constructive criticism that was needed to get me through the test. Thanks all!

Fantastic experience: I undertook my Mod 1 motorcycle training yesterday at Reading. My trainer ( Kev) was excellent. Everything was done at my pace and I came away feeling that I had learned a great deal . I would thoroughly recommend if you are in the process of training for your motorcycle tests!

Each of them has an eye for different things as can be expected, but everyone was great in their job and super passionate about the motorcycles. Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff great place to learn to ride very knowable staff I was with 2 other students we all had different levels of experience and was catered for immediately I could feel the confidence in all the instructors when anyone asked any questions or asked for help on anything, location is very easy to access if you drive or public transport, I only did a basic cbt but left with enough confidence in the company to return to upgrade my license highly recommend

Hadn’t ridden a bike for 30 years and wasn’t feeling all that confident, throughout the day Jerrys advice and teaching method raised confidence consistently throughout the day. If you’re thinking about taking a CBT go with lightning, I’m so glad that I did… thank you

Fantastic experience: Brilliant place to do a CBT passed first time. Everything explained in perfect detail and demonstrated multiple times. Everything needed to feel confident and ready to go on the road is explained and showed in a car park before and then in no time you feel ready and you go out on the road and pick it up after the first couple of corners. They are in radio communication throughout your riding on the road and explain everything clearly and give feedback as you are going along to correct yourself and improve. The two hours of road riding flew by, they have plenty of equipment to borrow and the moped was working perfectly. Very helpful and knowledgeable instructor explains everything in great detail. Couldn’t recommend highly enough

Negative experience: I would avoid ever using this place. Let me start by saying I really don't like leaving bad reviews, if you look at my record on Google review you'll see they're nearly all positive, but after the experience by partner had with this company I feel compelled to write this. My partner booked in for a CBT course on the 22nd July 2022, this didn't go completely to plan, through no fault of ligthening but she didn't complete the turn in the road satisfactorily, fair enough, so we went to rebook this, this is where the issues started, firstly is 89 pounds to redo one small part of the CBT, when the entries day is 179 this seems ridiculously steep, anyway didn't complain and rebooked this for 4th Aug, not ideal timing as we had a bike she wanted to get on to use to go to work but again didn't complain got ready for that... This date was cancelled for whatever reason, very frustrating and rebooked for the 9th! Anyway the 9th comes around and this is cancelled with an hours notice! Getting truly ridiculous by now and frustrating but apparently none of this was there fault and "outside their control" fine but still not an acceptable way to treat a customer. The retest was the rebooked for the 30th Aug which is shocking but we felt we had no choice.... Now the absolute best part they REBOOKED the 30th for the 31st without even a phone call to check that was okay, she did receive an email which sadly she didn't check properly until the day of the 30th, which was her fault but still, you don't change someone's day without checking with them. After this we lost complete faith in lightening and rebooked the entire cbt at the cost of 180 quid again with someone else. In lightenings defence she got the 89 quid back for the rebook but had to buy another entire CBT with someone else because of their incompetence and terrible communication and customer service. As I say I'd give this lot a VERY wide birth.

Fantastic experience: These guys amazing,I hadn't been back on a bike in 20 years,they gave me total confidence to get back on and pass my test first time. Instructors amazing and the guys in office constantly in contact with you throughout working hard to find you test cancellations so you can fit you training around your work life. If your thinking about doing your bike licence I'd highly recommend lightning.thanks again

Fantastic experience: Absolutely great motorcycle training. Did the Direct Access experienced course and passed my MOD 2 test 1st time without riding a bike for over 35 years!. The instructors really know their stuff, are full of riding and teaching experience. They were patient and professional. I was kept fully up to date with reminders for each lesson and test date, when to come and what to bring. I can't thank them enough. I was recommended by a friend who also passed first time and would not hesitate to recommend them also.

Fantastic experience: Passed my Mod 2 on the 17th. The guys at the Reading site are friendly and fantastic. Wouldn't have passed without them. I look forward to picking up my new bike in September thanks to these guys - especially Rob, Nick, Chris, Kevin and Keith.

Negative experience: Control your Brakes please and Stop! 200% poor customer services and training instruction. They do not follow DVSA standards, they just want to charge you and robbed you. A waste of time and money!

Fantastic experience: I passed my Mod 2 today with one minor fault. I did most of my DAS training with Lightning in Stourbridge and its been a very positive experience for me from start to finish! I had the pleasure of doing a Mod 2 session in Reading under the excellent watch of the Legend Keith, it was great to meet him and I want to say a big thanks to him for his feedback and instruction. Big thanks also to James and everyone else in the office. Finally I was lucky enough to have the best instructor ever as my main teacher, Steve is an absolute gem of a man and I enjoyed every minute. I would highly recommend Lightning Motorcycle Training to anyone serious about getting into riding, 10 out of 10 all day long. Thanks again!

Fantastic experience: Had a full day CBT course in Reading yesterday. Rob the instructor was amazing and very patient and understanding despite me being a nervous rider. Having previously tried to get through the CBT with a different provider I found Lightning was far more structured and gave helpful tuition and feedback on how to improve through all elements of training, this helped build up the confidence that I had previously lost from not passing previously. From what I experienced they only want what is best for you as a rider and will do as much as they can to give you every opportunity to succeed. Absolutely would recommend to anyone wanting to do a CBT.

Positive experience: An honest review Whoooo whoooo whoooo I passed first time - Thanks lightning Good points Had two great instructors out of 5 (Kevin and Paul) Always on time and ready Instructors were straight to the point which works for me. Pricing was the cheapest around Bad points 5 lessons including my two tests, 5 different instructors, 5 different ways of doing things. Very confusing! Reading facilities are run down The bike I was riding was a bit knackerd but that’s to be expected I suppose. One instructor was awful, didn’t engage in conversation and didn’t make me feel comfortable or welcome. My bad points aren’t a criticism but more to raise awareness of how to improve the company.

Fantastic experience: I signed up for intermediate version of DAS with Lightning Motorcycle Training in Reading in May 2022 and passed my Mod 2 in June 2022. From the start (CBT) to the end (Mod 2) they were very professional and created a good atmosphere for learning to ride. The instructors are very knowledgeable and eager to help as well as providing excellent constructive feedback when they are assessing you. They will go over the student record card with you and this will also help you to reflect over the things that are good as well as the things that you can do better. The "back office" is also very helpful and are always willing to shuffle your appointments around for you (if there is availability for it) Overall I'm very pleased with the service that was provided, and I want to give a special shoutout and thanks to Kevin, Chris, Nick and Keith for taking me through the DAS, it was enjoyable from start to finish!

Fantastic experience: I have just completed and passed my DAS course for A licence with Lightning. All I can say is thank you. I started at Reading and then took my test in Oxford so booked my mod 2 at Oxford to get to know the roads. The instructors are all so helpful. Especially a thank you to Andy from Reading, he was very supportive and treated me like one of his mates instead of just a student which I really appreciated, all the instructors did for that matter! Thank you also to Keith (you’ll never be as good as Keith), Gordon and the other instructors from Oxford as well. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend going with Lightning, all instructors make it a very good environment and help you learn from your mistakes (god knows I made lots of mistakes to get here). I will stop by when I get my bike sorted, thanks again!

Fantastic experience: Great service, and value for money. Professional and dedicated instructors. I did with them my DAS. I live in central London and I did most of my courses at their Reading centre, which is only a quick 25 min. train ride for London.
