Fantastic experience: Completing my CBT with James was an incredibly valuable and positive experience. The day started with a morning talk, where we discussed the overall structure of the course and shared my initial thoughts about taking it. As someone with no prior motorcycle experience and not having ridden a bicycle in 10+ years, I was a bit nervous. However, James’s calm and professional approach immediately put me at ease. We began with a detailed road safety talk, which emphasised the importance of being vigilant on the road. This was followed by a session on safety gear. James provided excellent advice on identifying certified safety equipment in the UK, which was particularly helpful for someone new to motorcycling. Knowing what to look for in helmets, jackets, and gloves gave me a solid foundation for future purchases. Next, we moved to the training pad, where James thoroughly explained the bike controls. He demonstrated how each control worked and encouraged questions, ensuring I felt confident before proceeding. His clear and patient instructions made understanding the mechanics of the bike much easier. On the pad, I worked through various tasks under James’s guidance. His feedback was always constructive and focused on improving my technique. This hands-on practice was essential in building my confidence before venturing out onto the road. The on-road portion of the training was equally well managed. James was incredibly patient, giving clear and concise instructions throughout the ride. As someone entirely new to motorcycling, I appreciated how he broke down each maneuver and ensured I felt safe and supported. One key piece of advice I’d give to anyone taking their CBT for the first time is to familiarise yourself with the Highway Code beforehand and consider buying the official DVSA guide to riding. As a car driver of 15 years, this course provided a new perspective on road use. It made me more aware of the challenges faced by motorcyclists and I now have a better appreciation for the decisions they make on the road. Overall, my CBT with James was a fantastic introduction to motorcycling. His expertise, patience and encouragement made all the difference. I’m looking forward to returning to complete my DAS with this training school in the near future.

Negative experience: Much like the other reviewer i was derided and shouted out from the very beginning , felt sorry for the nervous young girl who was with us she was picked on at the start and i knew what was coming. More like being ‘taught’ by a 1970s Borstal prison guard. Heard the guy dissing the other instructors for ‘chatting’ too much to the students and i knew what it was going to be like made to feel small from the moment i arrived. As a total newbie i had no clutch control never used a motorised vehicle that wasnt an ebike so its not surprising . What was surprising was how belligerent and awful the ‘instructor’ was screaming in my face from the very beginning at the slightest thing i got some boots which didnt fit under the gears so i was already hindered , despite this i managed to get through most of the tasks well, i just got muddled with the gears and the revs when we had to stop and start etc , i would have liked a friendly face or a kind word but instead he had many criticisms but hardly any advice or guidance or teaching skills , just screaming in my face that i wasnt listening. Being someone who has trained doctors to take blood from babies i know a thing or two about training people in high stress situations to do dangerous things and screaming/ criticisms is not how you do it. He didnt give anyone the slightest encouragement or even any real tips. … all in all a poor day , i would say a waste of money but it was worth the money to learn that i pretty much CAN ride a geared motorcycle and i did enjoy it , i didnt crash or drop a bike but i just got a bit confused with the clutch/ accelerator pulling away and was given no real advice on that one factor … all other schools were booked up weeks in advance .. guess i found out why this one has so many slots open He was just like the driving instructor character from fist of fun (watch it on youtube) same guy

Fantastic experience: I was so nervous for my second attempt at my CBT but Brian was amazing! He was so calm and patient, couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. Sue was so helpful on the phone when I was rebooking. I will be rebooking with Norton to do my full licence once I am a bit more experienced.

Fantastic experience: I did my CBT with Jane and I couldn't have wished for a better experience. I felt really welcome and in safe hands from the get go, Jane put me at ease straight away and delivered the training in a really straightforward way so that it was easy to understand and take in. She provided helpful constructive guidance throughout the day, and was always happy to answer my questions, no matter how silly they might have been! Also shout out to the other instructor James for his helpful tips and calm, professional approach which helped settle my nerves! Would definitely recommend doing your CBT with Nortons!

Fantastic experience: Great place to learn your CBT. Considering my past knowledge with bikes (being pedal bike's), I was surprised how quickly I was able to be taught a manual motorbike. My instructor (Mark) was very helpful and didn't treat me/others poorly, which made me less anxious riding a bike. I didn't pass my CBT as I wasn't confident going onto the road. However my instructor was incredibly understanding, and complimented my ability's on a manual bike regardless of my fail. I would 100% go back to fully complete my CBT.

Negative experience: Filled in their form online, stated that I had 0 experience, filled in that I had additional mental health needs.... The day of the test, the man was more like a army drill instructor, did not offer to let me swap to a automatic either. Failed me on the cbt because "I couldn't do the u turn slow enough" I have now since PASSED with a another school whose exact words where my U turn is perfectly fine. It is more likely that they Failed me because they would of had to paid another instructor to take me out for the 2nd half of the cbt

He is the best trainer and made me so relaxed and confident that I managed to get myfull license A on my very first attempt . Same day mod1 and mod2 passed . Fantastic experience: I've just completed 3 days training with Simon at Norton and I cannot recommend them enough. His skill and experience are top notch and throughout our road riding his attention to safety and instructions were the best I've had from 3 different schools. Once my nerves settled it became fun to ride their Kawasaki 650's. Nice, stable machines. I failed my mod 1 yesterday due to a minor error on the U turn. My mistake, no-one elses! Looking forward to more riding with Simon to smash mod 1&2. Ok, so I sorted my mod 1 out and passed my mod 2 first time at Burgess Hill after great instruction from Michael. He, as well as Simon and James, deliver their instruction in a calm, friendly manner without ridiculing any mistakes. My tips - relax, head up and look where you want to go. Be confident and ENJOY. Fantastic experience: I passed my CBT and Direct Access Course through Norton back in 2003. It is a very professional set up and the instructors were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. From never riding a motorcycle before I felt confident putting in for my test within the same week. I passed first time and I put that down to the excellent tuition I received. 21 years later and I am still keeping in touch with the owners and some instructors. I would highly recommend anyone to book through Norton. Don’t hesitate and book up now, you won’t regret it!

Fantastic experience: I had Neal for the majority of my training and James for part of it. They were both very friendly and provided clear instructions and helped me to pass my A2 first time! The price is around the same as the other schools in the area aswell so no complaints there. Would recommend!

Fantastic experience: I booked a 4 day direct access course due to previous experience on motorcycles. The team here are second to none when it comes to instructing, and very down to earth. Riding with them was very relaxed, with no pressure and their skill and experience shone through. They were patient with me and answered any questions needed, running through all different routes and all the skills to a higher standard than any other bike school I have seen. They got me a first time pass with a friendly, chilled out approach to instructions. Cheers team, it's been a pleasure.

Fantastic experience: I did my CBT in London last year and am only now able to get a bike! I was in need of a refresher, and to feel confident on a 125cc having only learnt on a 50cc. My instructor was Neal, it was an excellent class - he really put me at ease and helped me with all the drills. I now feel confident and super excited about ordering my bike tomorrow! I thoroughly recommend this school.

Fantastic experience: I booked a 6 day intesenvie course to obtain my full motorbike licence. The first half of my course was with James!, he gave me so much confidence and also alot of knowledge about the bike and how to be safe on the roads. Once the fundamental skills had been put in place with James I was then under Heather for the last 3 days of my course. She pushed me to achieve the best within my riding and I can honestly say both of James and Heather's support emotionally and technically where amazing!. I passed my mod 1 and mod 2 on my 6th day of the course with Norton with only 2 minors overal. I would highly recommend James and Heather and I cant wait to catch up with them both in the future on a ride out also organised by Norton driving school!.

Fantastic experience: A great motorcylce school whether you are looking to do a CBT or full license. I have done both with this school and always had a positive expereince. In June last year I did my A2 course, inclusive of a CBT, where I had multiple trainers inclusive on Neil, Michael and Simon. I managed to pass first time with 1 minor! This month I did my A2 to A upgrade course with James who I had a blast with. I again managed to pass this first time with zero minors on the board!! I always thought of doing my A2 to A course without any training but decided against it and thanks to James he was able to iron out any minor faults which got me the result I wanted. Further advice ... As James and I saw on my test day, it is never a good idea after failing to argue with the examiner.... I cannot forget to mention Sue who does the admin behind the scenes. Sue has always been really positive over the phone, willing to have a laugh and process the booking of the next available course in the quickest, smoothest way. Norton - It has been great. Thank you!! I am now unleashed on my full license!!

Fantastic experience: At short notice I booked onto a CBT course with Norton Motorcycle training after having a different provider cancel on me multiple times. This was by far the best decision I made, the training I experienced was top notch, Brian put me at ease and coached me through a couple of issues I had during the day and left me feeling confident on the bike. For the road ride James was incredible. His clear communication made it super easy to know where we were going and what was expected of me during that portion of the CBT. Both Brian and James have an incredible wealth of knowledge about motorbikes and the training you can do, and they are more than happy to share it which was fantastic! Looking forward to getting out on the 125 and I will endeavour to be back for my big bike training!

Fantastic experience: A big Thank You to every single member of staff at Norton Motorcycle & Scooter Training Centre.Very friendly and helpful from the first phone call I made enquiring what needs to be done to get my full motorcycle license. I did my CBT on Thursday and passed my full license exam on Monday. Very patient instructors, explained everything to me and made sure I understood, they demonstrate what I couldn't understand, took the time with every single one on course and made sure we are ready for our exam. Great experience, would definitely recommend them to the experienced riders that need to upgrade their license and to the nervous riders with big dreams, like me, regardless of their age.

So happy with the way they handled the training. They provide all the kit (helmet, clothing, gloves) and the bike. An all round service.

Fantastic experience: Completed my CBT today with Brian and Mark as the instructors. Both fantastic guys who made the whole experience not only understandable and approachable, but also fun. I also did a 2 hour pre-CBT session with Michael which was also brilliant and I'd recommend that to anyone who feels overly nervous or uneasy about anything before committing to the CBT, or anyone who just wants to get some 1-1 coaching beforehand. I will always highly recommend Norton to anyone looking to get things started. The perfect start to my biking journey! Positive experience: Came out with a lot more knowledgeable but no CBT. Staff were personable and knowledgeable. Would have liked a bit more time to sort out kinks in my riding. Kudos to the instructors for sticking to their principles and not letting me on the road dispite my obvious disappointment. Here's a picture of me sat on the ground on the bustop on the way home. Fantastic experience: Had a fabulous day out with James yesterday on a Back to Biking course. The Kawasaki 650 they provided was in good Nick. I started with some weaving around cones and slow control movements, then moved onto the local roads whilst James pointed out the hazards of the road and reinforced good practice, gradually rebuilding my confidence. We followed lunch with an afternoon blasting around the country lanes and dual carriageways north of here. A grand day out and my transition from “retired biker” to “ready to ride”. Finished with a cuppa at Whiteways cafe where my only mistake of the day was not eating any cake. Thanks.

Fantastic experience: Gone with Norton since taking my CBT nearly 10 years ago. Would not have gone anywhere else for my A2 and full A licence upgrades. Professional and helpful instructors with a willingness to get you riding at your best. I had Simon for my A2 nearly 6 years ago and he was highly attentive and patient. James did my recent upgrade and his attention to detail was just what I needed to get any bad habits out of the way before the test. Fantastic experience: Carried out my CBT which was fun and informative. Lots of information was given by James. Made me feel safe once on the roads and gave me clarity to doing my full bike license. Anyone that says a CBT is easy. It’s not really about that. It’s the information you take in to keep safe on the road and what gear will keep you safe. And what you might find easy, others may struggle. As a group this was maintained very well by James. Not rushing anyone and letting us learn and gain confidence. Fantastic experience: I’ve done both my 50 and 125 cc CBTs with Norton, but most recently my full A licence with their instruction. Their friendliness, professionalism and guidance are all exceptional. I cannot praise Neil, my instructor for my full A course, enough. He is calm, experienced and puts you at ease whilst developing all the skills you need for the road. I managed to pass both Mod 1 and Mod 2 first time with no minors. Fantastic experience: I contacted Norton late on a Sunday, enquiring if there was availability on their Monday (Bank holiday) CBT. I had a response VERY quickly from them via email & Facebook messenger kindly stating that there was availability and also offering rapid responses to the many questions I had. On the day, my CBT was delivered by Heather who was very warm and friendly. The training was very concise and a lot of fun! I had a blast! When speaking to Heather and the other staff about my 'next steps', everybody was incredibly helpful and also offered advice on motorcycle equipment and shops to go to so I can acquire the kit! I will be getting my theory booked in preparation to getting the rest of the training booked in so that I can use a 'big bike'! Thank you to Heather and the team!

Fantastic experience: Did my CBT initially with Brian last September, which was really good and got me out on the road. In February I went for the full licence with a DAS. Mainly with Neal, but also Simon and James and it was all first class. Great instructors and I'd recommend this place to anyone. Fantastic experience: From start to finish these guys have been absolutely amazing. I spoke to sue on the phone to pay a deposit and secure my placement and she was fantastic from the offset. I had James for the first 2 days as my instructor and he was absolutely amazing with myself and Keith the other man doing his licence. On the third day we had micheal who is fantastic. On the fourth day we had Neil who was also amazing. Today we had heather take us to our test where we passed with flying colours, she is also brilliant. Every single instructor is fantastic at their jobs and they have the upmost respect and understanding for new riders. Would recommend Norton to every single person I come across. Fantastic experience: Took my DAS course recently, Heather was my instructor for 2 days, James for 1 day. They were both very patient and knowledgable and kept me feeling confident throughout. Most of the team were present on test day and made for a fun and relaxed morning whilst trying to keep the nerves at bay. Sue was very friendly and helpful on the phone when booking. Fantastic experience: If you want to get into motorcycling, this is the place to go . I did my cbt with these guys a year ago and today I passed my full licence test. It wasn't my 1st cbt but the instructor's are all friendly so I want back plucked up the courage to do a full test ,booked a 4 day course with a test at the end . Neil was my instructor with all his knowledge and patience got me through, Thank you Neil and everyone at Norton.
