Fantastic experience: I would absolutely recommend Mike if you are looking to gain your full motorbike license, the training is constructed in a calm, calculated way and he is very accommodating for booking lessons. You get a decent amount of slow riding practice and mock MOD1 tests which are extremely helpful. The bikes are well maintained and run very well. Fantastic experience: Mike is a very patient and calm instructor who teaches by carefully watching you ride and helping you to fine-tune your riding until it is of or beyond test standard. He clearly knows exactly what he is doing as he helped me to pass my mod1 and mod2 first time, and knew exactly when to suggest that I take each one. At times it felt a bit frustrating as there are so many things to do at the same time and my coordination is not great, but Mike was always patient despite my many errors. Having now done a 200mi cross-country journey independently following my pass, I realize that Mike equipped me very well to ride safely in many situations and road conditions. Thank you Mike!

Fantastic experience: I just passed my motorcycle test, and I owe it all to Mike! I started out as a complete novice less than 8 weeks ago — I had never riden a bike before — and Mike made the whole learning process super easy and fun. He’s patient, super knowledgeable, and has this way of breaking things down so they make sense. From the first lesson I felt totally comfortable. He explained everything step by step, from the basics of handling the bike to more advanced stuff like cornering and emergency stops. Every time I made a mistake, he didn’t get frustrated; instead, he used it as a chance to teach me the right way to fix it, which made all the difference. Mike was also really great at giving me feedback that was constructive and not overwhelming. He’d point out what I was doing well, and then help me work on areas where I was struggling — without making me feel bad about it. By the time my Mod 2 test rolled around I felt completely prepared and I passed with flying colors! Mod 1 and Mod 2 tests passed within the block of lessons provided, even had a session to spare Mike was so good! If you’re a beginner and want someone who genuinely cares about your progress and your safety, Mike’s your guy.

Fantastic experience: I've been able to pass my mod 1+2 (first time) following my 6th session with Mike. He sets the expectations for his programme of training/teaching and works with a lot of flexibility to accommodate working hours. You will get dedicated instruction and coaching, he was patient and clear with his explanations, calm with giving feedback on improvements in my riding. Fantastic experience: Mike is a fantastic motorbike instructor, being very knowledgeable about bikes and road rules/safety, as well as being patient and encouraging. He took me from being an absolute beginner who had never ridden a bike, to passing my Mod 1 and Mod 2 on my first attempts in the space of a few short weeks. Even better was the fact that I was able to do this on one of Mike's we'll maintained 600cc bikes, which meant that when I passed I got a full unrestricted licence. I would certainly recommend Mike to anyone looking to do their Direct Access motorbike licence.

Fantastic experience: I have passed my mod 1 and mod 2 first time with mike and it was a pleasure from start to finish he is honestly one of the most down to earth kind hearted men I've ever met nothing is too much trouble for Mike he has been accommodating and flexible along the way working around my shift patterns. Fantastic experience: I’m over the moon that I passed both the tests. I have my license and I absolutely enjoy my rides . I remember everything that Mike taught me and I keep them in my mind every time I go for a ride . Mod 1 was very difficult for me .Mike gave me more than several chances for me to get to the required speed . Honestly , I was going to give up ; Mike encouraged me and built my confidence which was shattered at one stage . Once I passed my mod 1 in my second attempt , I started to believe that I had a chance . MOD II wasn’t easy either - even on the way to the test centre I was making a few mistakes - Mike gave me a chance again to go over all the things one final time just before we arrived at the test centre . Fantastic experience: Got mike recommended to me by my brother who passed just over a year ago, Mike is an amazing teacher with years of knowledge, helped me get through my CBT with ease, sadly I struggled with the Mod 1 and passed on the third try but each time Mike went through everything thoroughly, and I passed my Mod 2 on my first attempt all within the 8 sessions. Would definitely say give Mike a call if you are looking to do your Direct access, definitely worth every penny. Would be 6 stars if I could.

Fantastic experience: I can’t recommend Mike enough for people wanting to learn to ride. I started my motorcycle journey with Mike nearly 2 years ago! Through one thing or another, had to halt my progress. I recently got In touch with him to see if I could pick up where I left off before my CBT and theory expired and happy to say I passed my full test today! Fantastic experience: Started bike training in October with Mike hoping to get it complete as soon as possible, unfortunatley with me starting a new job that meant I only new my rota a couple weeks in advance made it a challange booking ahead, not to mention the the weather throughout winter that presented a challange for my MOD1 test , None the less Mike didn't give up on me and was fantastic at helping me to learn how to be a great biker. Calm and kind approach to teaching makes you feel relaxed and gives you confidence on the road. I passed my MOD2 with no minors last week thanks to mike, Highly recommend if you want a relaxed learning enviorment to ride a motorbike well.

Fantastic experience: An excellent experience from the initial enquiry all the way through to the final mod 2 test. Mike is a patient instructor and takes his time to ensure you are happy with your learning, his style of teaching worked very well and I enjoyed every minute. The day normally starts and ends with a coffee and a chat which both helps to relax and inform you at the same time. I had never ridden a bike before and completed the initial trial and further training on a 600cc bike with Mikes calming voice encouraging me throughout. I will miss the coffee and chats and will pop down to see how things are going in the near future. Fantastic experience: Looked at going from no licence to full unrestricted licence during a gap between jobs. Lots of people who are riders in my area recommended that I go train with Mike. Signed up for a full course in November, and now February 1st I have my full licence! Mike's tutelage really put me at ease on a bike, considering I'd only been used to a 125cc from a CBT before. Calm and friendly instruction on the road, always felt safe even when the weather turned cold and unpleasant, or both! Mike is a fantastic guy, super friendly and fully deserving of his reputation. Thoroughly enjoyed my training, and looking forward to continuing the learning experience solo, might have to pop back for a refresher lesson when I get my own bike in a few weeks!

Fantastic experience: Having never stepped foot on a bike, even riding pillion - I had a mad moment one weekend and decided to attempt a long forgotten dream I had as a kid to own and ride a motorbike. Found Mike through Google and it was one of the best choices I’ve ever made. I asked a few bikers I know personally before I committed for their advice, and not only did everyone know of Mike, they only had good words to say. I signed up for the full package - trial day, CBT, lessons, mod 1 and 2 - all on a “big bike” which gives an unrestricted bike licence. I could write paragraphs and it wouldn’t do Mike justice - but safe to say he’s the sole reason I conquered my fear at the start, learned to ride in my own time without judgement or pressure and ended up getting my CBT, passing my mod 1 and mod 2 both first time - all within 4 months! Mike is an absolute expert in his field and if he can get me to pass everything first time he’s also a miracle worker. Without playing on gender it could have been intimidating as a woman to get right on a 600cc bike and go for it, but Mike’s caring and patient approach made it an absolute breeze. I’ve made a friend for life with Mike - if you’re thinking about getting a licence but have any doubts about your abilities…just go for it. Cannot recommend highly enough

Fantastic experience: After speaking to the others school in Sheffield, Mike was the one I decided to go with due to the outstanding reviews and the way he came across over the phone. This meant waiting for an opening but it was worth it as as it as I've just passed my mod 2 first time around. Mike has been helpful, patience and understanding while doing my training including the times when I've made stupid mistakes. Never have I felt pressured during the training as if someone is shouting at me rather he has worked with me to identify the areas where I needed more practise on and helped me iron it out so I could get my license and it's worked. Fantastic experience: After reading previous reviews about Mike and his training, I knew I wanted to train with him. Such a mild manner, teaching you all the time, if you did something slightly wrong, just a gentle reminder of what to do, no words out of place, just guiding you along the journey to achieve what you want to do and pass your tests. I hadn’t sat on a bike for 35 years so was all new to me, he made me relaxed, after every lesson I had a smile on my face…and I knew I had progressed every time. Passed MOD1 & 2 with only 2 minors in total, and that is credit to Mike. I will actually miss the lessons, but he has taught me and given me the freedom to ride…thankyou, and I would highly recommend anyone to learn from Mike. Fantastic experience: My friend and I recently trained with Mike for our Mod 1 and Mod 2 tests after having never been on a bike before, and both of us managed to pass first time. After having completed out CBT at another school, we had an introductory session with Mike and very quickly it became apparent he was the kind of instructor we were looking for. From the start, Mike was very warm, kind and really seemed to care about what he was doing. He is clearly a people person and uses this to help you learn in the best way possible for you as an individual. Fantastic experience: I recently completed training with Mike and am pleased to say I passed both my Mod 1 and Mod 2 on first attempt. I completed my CBT with a different trainer and was not satisfied with their service so came to Mike. He is competietive and transparent with pricing. I really liked that he offers an introductory session for 50 pounds which allows you to try a 600cc bike for a couple of hours with no pressure to sign up for the full training package. He was very flexible with the hours he was able to offer for training and was willing to travel to different test centres in order to get me through training in a timely fashion. I would happily recommend Mike to anyone who is wanting to learn to ride!

Fantastic experience: After enquiring training at various local bike schools I got a fast and honest response from mike barlow with clarity of costs and time frames. His rates were competitive, he was flexible working around my personal routine and working hours by offering PAYG scheme that was better suited to me with my experience. The direct access scheme he offers works out at great value for what is included and gives you everything you need depending on your circumstances. He is the only local school to offer CBT on a 600cc, which I found extremely advantageous if aiming to gain full A2/A licence and get a feel for a bigger bike as your not wasting time on a 125 you don't intend on riding or have previously took one on which I did back in 06 with mike. With a professional approach, effective teaching methods, clear direction and decent maintained equipment/facility... Mike barlow training met all my needs and was very satisfied with his service. I gained my full A licence withing 2 months of my first lesson even though there was a shortage of test slots mike adapted and went out of his way to find them and travel. I highly recomend his training for either CBT or passing a full bike test and know many that have used mike with sucsess... Top bloke too

Fantastic experience: Haing first tried out an alternative training company in Sheffield and not particularly enjoyed the experience (swearing, aggressiveness, machisimo was the norm), I contacted Mike @ MBMT (after reading glowing online reviews!) to see if he had room to take me on as a learner. I knew from our first phone conversation Mike was the calm, experienced teacher I was looking for… And so it would turn out to be! Mike’s patient, convivial style meant I looked forward to each & every lesson. No dramas, just thoughtful, safe riding on one of his wonderful bikes (which, are all identifal btw, so each ride is consistent). My ability & confidence on the road quickly improved leaps & bounds, & it wasn’t long before I found myself in front of a DVSA instructor! Happily, I passed the MOD2 last week & would like to shout Mike out for his splendid tutelage. Thank you Mike (and I look forward to popping in for a coffee on my new bike soon!).

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend Mike to anyone wishing to do their bike training. And for anyone even considering bike training, give Mike a call, he's a great guy and will talk you through it and put you at ease. I had little to no biking experience but passed my MOD1 & MOD2 with a lesson spare at 43. From the off Mike was friendly, professional and immediately puts you at ease. Mike has been doing what he does for 40 odd years so he knows exactly what he is doing and can cater to all levels, you simply cannot beat that level of experience. The Bikes are perfect to learn on, smooth & well maintained. The Direct access course is great value for money & Mike is highly accommodating. There's not much more I can say other than give him a call.

Fantastic experience: Mike Barlow, what an absolute legend, a true professional and an absolute gentleman. After reading other reviews I decided to go to Mike for my direct access and I am so glad I did. Every minute of the training was enjoyable. His knowledge of safe bike riding is second to none and his ability to always be on the ball when giving you instructions in plenty of time via radio when out on the road was perfect. He was constantly explaining how and why things are done until he could see that I was confident in carrying out the manoeuvre without assistance. He always made me feel at ease, normally during a one way conversation via the radio, which I found really helpful in allowing me to relax and enjoy it even more. Every instruction was fully explained so I totally understood. Road positioning, shoulder checks, speed, observations, planning, mirror use, slow riding and all other aspects of bike riding was given in detail. This helped me to become a safe and confident rider. Mike is patient and will work on the areas you are struggling with to make sure that you can do everything correctly. Thank you so much Mike for all your support. It was an absolute pleasure to be taught by you. Everything I learnt will be used to stay safe when riding now I have a new found freedom of the open road on two wheels.

Fantastic experience: What a great instructor is mike took a long time in getting my licence and finally got it last week Mike's very understanding he doesn't rush or put pressure you. The 600cc yamahas are maintained to a high standard and with heated grips what's great for winter training. Mike shows you the MOD2 test routes so you feel comfortable with them. Also accommodated shift my patterns what was great. couldn't of passed with out him highly recommend anyone who wants there bike licence to train with mike as you won't find anyone else better than him

Fantastic experience: With no experience of riding a big bike, I'm pleased to say that with the training I have received from Mike, I have passed the mod 1 and 2 tests to get a full bike licence. The experience and knowledge that Mike has really comes through in the training I received. I was put at ease with the way I was taught and allowed to learn at my own pace, but still being pushed to progress and bring my riding to a level required to pass the test. Fantastic experience: Great session with Mike. I have come back to biking after 15 years and wanted a 1-2-1 session where I could get some confidence about riding again. Had a great day with slow control before hitting the roads. Mike has a lovely calming voice and demeanour, and it really put me at ease when we was out riding and explaining the best riding positions and things to look out far. Fantastic experience: I went to Mike prompted by these reviews and he turned out to be an Excellent instructor - laid back, pragmatic and gently correcting the mistakes that I've picked up through my years of driving. Having ridden bikes decades ago, I was pretty rusty and Mike was able to easily guide me through. Also great was bumping into a friend on the taster days and buddying up for the rest of the training. Mike was exceptionally organised in being flexible around my work/family commitments. For my Mod 1, I felt I wasn't ready, but Mike was happy and it turned out that his instincts were right!! Fantastic experience: Firstly a big thanks to Mike for being such a fantastic instructor and helping me pass my module 1 and 2 tests in the first attempt! If you are reading this review; it’s probably because you are from Sheffield/ South Yorkshire area looking for lessons to get your motorcycle licence. So read on! I am sure you must have used “Google” for CBT/ motorcycle riding lesson like I did ; Mike Barlow comes in the three top names. Mike is the only one where you speak directly to the instructor when you call; the other two are larger companies where the receptionist speaks to you. my gut feeling immediately after speaking to Mike on the phone was that he is the man I would like lessons from. I was certain I would be getting personal training and attention; especially after reading a few of the reviews. Mike convinced me to go for the full direct access licence on a bigger bike rather than just CBT on a smaller bike, to be a better rider; which made sense. I came in for a “taster” session where I bumped into another colleague who was also after the same lessons. Similar background and we had smaller motorbikes in our younger days. We rode around the yard and got theoretical knowledge about bike riding (as well as his faith as Jehovah’s Witness) as well. By the end of this session we knew we both wanted to do the full course; signed up and importantly paid up! We both trainees buddied up and Mike did all the lessons together. He was happy to work around our work and social commitments with the lessons. We gradually moved from yard to road; first Mike led and then followed us. CBT done through smaller roads in Dronfield and then the loner rides through, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 zones and dual carriage ways! A longer session with a quick sandwich from the local shop was that got me feeling I was getting ready. Mikes voice rings in ears switch the indicators off, look over your shoulder, life saver check; turn the hand grip heating off haha. In a flash it was Module 1 test day and then module 2 test day. Before I could blink, I had passed my test!! (5 minutes ago; just writing review from the test centre haha) I will end my review by thanking Mike again and saying if you choose Mike for your lessons; you am sure will be as happy as I am with him. Enjoy your lessons and safe riding!!

Fantastic experience: I’ve recently just passed my mod one and mod two first time due to mike great training skills he has very laid back way of training people and puts you at ease from the very first time you step on the bike, I haven’t rode for 15 years and Mike just eased me into it. Fantastic experience: Back in the summer I decided to take the plunge and start my biking journey having never sat on a bike before. I searched for some suitable places knowing that I wanted to learn properly not just quickly. I read the many glowing reviews that Mike had and following a phonecall to him I realised this was the only place I wanted to go to. A few months later I am currently sat at the test centre in Rotherham having just passed my Mod 2 first time with no minors. I have Mike to thank for his calm , considered approach which has made me feel at ease and built my confidence on the bike. Mike is a smashing guy and the other people I have met that are also training at the same time have all been great , it has felt like a little community that is a joy to be a part of. If you are thinking about learning I can only say that Mike is a brilliant teacher and his approach from the initial taster through to Mod 2 is an ideal way to get you through the process. I had Mike's calming voice in my head as I rode the Mod 2 and that definitely made me make some good decisions when out on the road. Fantastic experience: Excellent training and guidance that will make you a better rider and fully prepare you to pass your test. Passed my Category A (Direct Access Scheme) with MIke. Mike has excellent attention to detail and spots the errors that you make while on the road. This gives you an instance feedback mechanism to correct your mistakes, which disciplines you into being a better rider - it will also make you a better car driver. There was no situation that I came across on my test that I did not feel prepared for, or know how to handle. I feel very privileged to have been one of his students and I highly recommend MBT to everyone.

Fantastic experience: I booked in with Mike to go straight in for a full unrestricted license having never have even sat on a motorbike before but something that I have wanted to do for years. Think it is safe to say that I was nervous when I first arrived but Mike's method of teaching and explaining everything really helps you to relax and enjoy each lesson. He is very patient with people and takes the time to explain where mistakes have been made and in return, helping you develop with each lesson. Today I passed my MOD 2 test and I can honestly say that Mike is the man to help you get there as well. Just to add, as someone else has pointed out. Fantastic experience: Well what can I say it was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. I could already ride a bike before I came from doing motocross when I was younger. The cbt was a breeze but when it came to riding the 600 he realised I'd picked up a lot of bad habit. After 2 lessons he had taught me out of them so tactfully, setting me certain scenarios up on the road at the time it was happening I hadn't realised it was mike reading the road to make this happen and that showed me why I need to do it how he wanted me to do it. This kept my confidence high and never felt nervous on my lessons. I passed my mod 1 and mod 2 first time by just doing as I was told lol. I'm so glad I got the recommendation from a friend of a friend and it turned out not only did he teach him but his dad aswell (20 years ago) If you want none rushed what felt like 1 to 1 even though there was two of us on lessons thats how it felt Mike's your man. Fantastic experience: My husband has recently completed his mod one and two with Mike Barlow, after a bad experience with a different local training scheme. After his previous bad experience, he was reluctant to start again, but after the first session with Mike, he came back buzzing! He remarked how Mike was the most patient, all round nice bloke. Fantastic experience: I passed my CBT with another motorbike training centre. My plan was to stay with my CBT and renew it every 2 years. I purchased a new Honda CB125F plus I took early retirement the same month. After clocking up over 1500 miles over a 3 month period on my 125cc, I decided I wanted to go touring & therefore needed to obtain my full license to enable me to ride a more powerful motorbike. After looking at a number of motorbike training providers, I decided to contact MB Training based on the many positive reviews. I contacted Mike & discussed my options & he recommended I take the “Try a big bike” to enable to gain experience on the big bike plus sample Mike’s approach to training. It was evident early on in the session that Mike had a huge knowledge & experience of motorbike training & more importantly he had a constructive & consultative training style & approach - I signed up to the Direct Access Scheme (DAS) and shortly afterwards I commenced my training to obtain my full license. Mike tailored my training sessions given I’d already completed over 1500 miles on my 125cc. We started with long bike rides in the Peak District that enabled me to gain experience and confidence in a big bike. After a couple of sessions Mike introduced more riding in built up urban areas and then city riding. For me this was a progressive & effective way to prepare me for my mod1 before moving onto my mod2. Mike’s training style is to drip feed small chunks of information so that you don’t become overloaded & confused. In addition Mike is always available to discuss any questions and queries that inevitably arise during the training. I recently passed my mod2 & therefore have my full bike license - I am eternally grateful to Mike for his help, expert advice & guidance throughout my training. Thank you Mike.

Fantastic experience: Encouraged by the reviews, I have recently completed a direct access course with Mike. As a complete beginner, I started with an introductory session where we learned basic clutch control and rode around his yard. Next was the CBT and then onto the first of 7 lessons as part of his course. There was a days training specifically for the mod 1 test and then the mod 2 test towards the end of the course. The real benefit of having Mike teach you to ride is his calm and measured approach. He isn't the type to get mad and start stressing at his students, he simply repeats all of the information you need whilst you're riding and lets you get on with it. I was also looking to get straight onto bigger bikes (not wanting to overwhelm a poor 125!) and Mike does just that, having his students on 600c Yamaha's from the off. I think it's also worth mentioning that so many of Mike's other students have been really nice people. You'll likely to get to ride with people at varying points along their training which helps you to develop and in turn when you're nearing the end you'll be helping others. Of course this may not be the same for everyone but it has been notable for me. To that end, best of luck on your Mod 2 tests to those I've ridden with over the last 2 months, if any of you happen to read this and I hope to see your positive reviews soon! Fantastic experience: Mike is a very kind and loveable gentlemen. I came from another training program which was a very bad experience. Mike helped me gain my confidence and grew my riding skills. He never got impatient and was always supportive unlike other instructors. I would strongly advise him to anyone wanting to learn how to ride. 10/10!

Fantastic experience: I passed my Mod 2 within about 12 weeks of never having sat on a bike, prior to a taster session with Mike on May 10th. He immediately instilled a a level of confidence in me to take the plunge and go for the Direct Access Course and I loved it. It far exceeded my expectations and he is a great instructor and my car driving has also improved! Through his experience, technical know-how and attention to detail, he gave me the peace of mind that I was in the right hands if I wanted to learn how to ride a bike safely on the road and also to pass my test. He is unflappable, extremely patient, kind and very generous with his time. This rubs off onto everbody that he teaches and I have met some great people along the way. A week after passing my test, Mike took me out on a follow up lesson where he showed me the different road positions needed to continue improving and gain more confidence and experience. Going on the motorway for the first time with him, on a new bike, was also very helpful. Fantastic experience: My wife trained and passed with Mike last year after he was recommended to her, and in turn she highly recommended him to me, and she wasn’t wrong as I passed my Mod 2 today! Mike is not local to me but I was prepared to travel the extra miles because it’s not just about passing a test, it’s about being safe and competent out on the road. Fantastic experience: After a rather frustrating start to my motorcycle training journey, with experience of a number of training schools, I was feeling demoralised and to be frank, stopping all together. However I did reach out to Mike in the end with hope that my passion for bikes would be restored and Mike DELIVERED! Fantastic experience: Just completed my DAS course with Mike this week, resulting in a pass first time in both modules. I can't thank Mike enough for his instruction and help throughout the entire process. His consistent, calm instruction quickly helps build the foundations needed for riding safely, and he constantly builds on this by getting you out on the bike for extended periods, gradually introducing new concepts, and is overall a fantastic teacher. The bikes and equipment used are well looked after, and Mike went the extra mile when it came to fitting in tests and lessons as they came available. I'd recommend him to anyone wanting to become a rider or even to refresh skills if you haven't ridden in years. Edit 20/06/22: Today I had a further advanced lesson with Mike. This was to go over the finer points of advanced riding and road positioning that aren't necessarily covered as part of a DAS course. I found this extra lesson really helpful and as usual Mike's teaching was excellent. Again, I can't recommend Mike enough!
