Fantastic experience: Dave Taylor has done for me what no other driving instructor has managed in 10 years: got me to the point of booking a car practical test. And I passed with him first time. For this reason I would recommend Dave and Karen to anyone looking to learn to drive, refresh their knowledge, or expand their driving skillset (minibus, taxi assessment etc). Shortly after I started my lessons I thought I would look up Dave and Karen's Google reviews to see what other learners had to say. The only negative feedback I could see on there was from a couple of learners 9 years ago saying 'profit before pupil'. After seeing these comments I was a little worried that I had made the right choice of instructor, but having seen my lessons through to a successful outcome, I can't understand where they're coming from? - Dave and Karen did not change me for the couple of hours spent at the garden centre, bearing in mind they drove two cars there and back. - Although they requested 5 days' notice to cancel or rebook lessons (due to them being self-employed), the first time I was poorly they kindly forgave that instance and did not charge me. - Due to me battling fatigue Dave would always text first thing in the morning to check that I was fit to drive that day. - The couple of times that lessons overran by 15 or 30 minutes due to unusual traffic situations on long drives (eg suspected swing bridge closure whilst we were in Newhaven), Dave did not charge me extra or request further payment, even when I offered. I also offered to get off early at eg Polegate train station as they live in Polegate, but Dave still encouraged me to continue driving home, even though this would have added an extra 30 minutes to his day on top, while the lesson had already overrun. So if this is the reason you are hesitant about booking lessons with Dave or Karen, and if you have any worries at all, or you are like me in being an anxious person - I would say that you have nothing to worry about, and you are in safe hands. (I posted a longer version of this review on their website on 01/09/25, as Google would only let me paste half of what I had written here.)

Fantastic experience: I am in the process of obtaining a taxi license and required a taxi driving certificate. I’m so glad I found Karen and Dave’s company as a provider of such services. Karen made sure I was prepared for my assessment by providing me with excellent tuition. Communication was spot on and professional throughout my dealings with Karen and Dave. I cannot recommend them highly enough for their professionalism and first class service. Thankyou once again for all your help in making it possible for me to be able to continue with my new career journey.

Fantastic experience: Passed first time today with Dave as my instructor. Would highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn how to drive. Always felt safe and at ease and now I am ready to drive independently on the roads and feel confident in myself. Honestly couldn’t fault Driver Training TaylorMade!!

Fantastic experience: I learnt to drive with Karen and had a few lessons with Dave too. Karen was a fantastic teacher - she understood my needs and learning style from the start. She was really supportive and always made me feel safe behind the wheel. Even when I didn’t believe in myself, she did - and that helped me gain the confidence I needed. She’s honest, realistic, reliable, patient, and genuinely cares about her students. I’m really grateful for everything and would definitely recommend Karen and Dave to anyone learning to drive. With them, you’re not just learning to drive - you’re learning the importance of safety and how to make the roads a better place.

Fantastic experience: Was taught by Karen (with some lessons and mock tests with Dave). Phenomenal pair ! They certainly know the driving test inside out. Felt very at ease in the car with them both. Felt I was always being told the right information and were honest about my driving and if I was ready to take the test or not. Passed First Time ! Would certainly recommend

Fantastic experience: I just passed my driving test first try with Dave! He's not the first instructor I've had but he's certainly the best. He's patient, understanding and has given me great confidence behind the wheel. I'd highly recommend learning with him.

Fantastic experience: I passed my test yesterday thanks to Dave's patient and thorough tuition. I felt confident today as I ventured out on my own in my car for the first time. Dave is extremely experienced and knowledgeable and it really shows, as he doesn't just teach you to get though a test, he makes sure that you are a competent, safe and confident driver for life. Thank you Dave, I'm forever grateful to now have this life changing skill.

Fantastic experience: I cannot thank Karen (and Dave) enough for the kind, clear, thorough and patient tuition they provided me throughout my learning journey. I am a very anxious person, and have had bad experiences with a previous instructor, and so Karen spent a lot of time getting to know me and the best way to coach me to bring out the best in me. She was the perfect balance of kind and understanding without coddling me when I was having a wobble (she keeps a very handy stash of tissues in the glovebox which I made use of more than once, including an hour before my test!). I'm so pleased to say I passed today with no minors, and owe it all to Karen, and to Dave who provided me with really helpful mock tests in the run up to my actual test. I can't thank you enough, I've never been prouder of myself and would highly recommend to anyone looking for instructors who truly care about producing safe, well rounded drivers.

Fantastic experience: Thank you David for fitting me in today at such short notice to do my Taxi Driving Test. Even though I've been driving 30 years it is still nerve racking taking any kind of test. You made me feel at ease and took the time to show me how I could improve and become a safer driver. Fantastic experience: I passed my test 1st time (10/02/2022) and not only that but I got a perfect score!!! I couldn't believe it, but it was all because Karen is such a great instructor! She explains everything so you know exactly what to do and talks you through it as you are learning. She gets to know you and finds the best technique to use to teach you. Mine was visual. Karen would sketch out scenarios so I knew what to do and what to expect. It worked a treat for me! Karen makes you feel at ease and she's very informative. I would recommend Talormade to absolutely anyone that wants to drive to a safe and high standard. I now feel I'm ready for anything that occurs on the road and I have the skill to deal with it. Fantastic experience: I had Dave as my instructor and not only is he an amazing teacher but he is also a fab guy to have around, i never thought I'd pass my driving and had a lot going on personally but he got me through it, I could not thank him enough.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of having Dave as my driving instructor this year. After not getting on with my previous instructor and taking my first test vastly unprepared (and horribly failing!), I was recommended Dave by a good friend who had passed with flying colours a few years previously! Dave is an incredible instructor and really helps you develop a real understanding of driving and the road, and I am so grateful to him for helping me develop the driving skills I needed to pass my second test. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn how to REALLY drive!

Fantastic experience: It’s been over a month since I passed my test and got my private hire licence. I’ve already had more than 250 clients and I feel that I have become a driver who is so much more confident, thanks to the lessons I had with Karen and Taylormade. The foresight that she taught me is probably the most important element that I took away but there were so many things that I learned in a very short space of time. Fantastic experience: Dave was a great teacher, he helped me pass first time! The tuition was really helpful and I very confident going into my test. He also helped me pass my theory test by giving me full access to Theory Test Pro, which gave me multiple choice questions, practice exams and example hazard perception clips too. All in all, a great instructor, couldn't have done it without him.

Fantastic experience: I passed first time yesterday thanks to Dave (and Karen who played the part of examiner in my mock tests) and I couldn’t be happier with the service that I received. Dave was professional, courteous and always on time! I was given free access to a driving theory app that broke down the Highway Code into manageable sections and the hazard perception clips proved to be great practice for my real Theory Test. I felt calm and confident yesterday, thanks in no small part to Dave instilling in me that he has a philosophy of teaching people to drive - not just to pass their test. I felt confident because Dave felt confident and with a CV like his, that was good enough for me! I simply cannot recommend TaylorMade highly enough. Thank you!

Negative experience: Definetly agree with the "profit before pupil" comment made previously. i wanted to reduce my lessons and was told this would "not work for them as a business" and should i decide to "dig deep and stay" i would be able to be kept on. Karen is an excellant instructor but if you do not bring them in enough money than they dont want to bother. it was made clear to me that if i wanted to take a test before they agreed i was ready i would not be able to use their car.

Fantastic experience: Great experience when learning to drive. Professional, friendly and safe. Couldn't ask for more.
