Fantastic experience: Over the past few months, my son, Angus, has had a great experience getting driving lessons from Alan. He was very professional but also easy going which helped Angus’ confidence. His test was due in January but was cancelled due to the snow but Alan did not try to push extra lessons on him saying he was ready. But we arranged a couple of extra lessons nearer the test date (3 months later, not Alan’s fault, just long delays for getting test dates), as Alan is so good. We would definitely recommend Alan.

Negative experience: Driving with Alan has been among the worst string of experiences in my adult life. Over two years I have taken over 125 hours in lessons and he has managed to: Drag out lessons wherever possible, refusing to cover specific areas after request; Spend large majorities of our scheduled time either stopping to talk about his personal life or to use his phone; Consistently show up at least 8-10 minutes late despite me travelling into a central area to accommodate his travel needs and regularly stopped at my house 8-10 minutes early under the guise of using that time to cover what happened on the lesson that only really used even half the 10 minutes a handful of times. His constant lack of professionalism is grating, regularly using abusive or harsh comments rather than constructive criticism, and using language as to invoke stress to ensure driving is as hard as can be. The environment he creates is intentional as to damage confidence, mental health and impact driving capabilities as to get more hours booked. His quick pass guarantees are intentionally worded as to scam unsuspecting customers as he regularly sees multiple week long holidays as to interrupt the weekly lessons required in the guarantees. If all this were not enough I regularly felt that driving with Alan was unsafe as he regularly without cause will reach over and grab the steering wheel, get distracted and check his phone while I am driving or reach out of the car to wave at people he recognises. I strongly advise that all new drivers AVOID AT ALL COSTS. May be worth your while as an experienced driver for a single lesson but he will do his best to trap particularly younger or vulnerable people into a never ending whirlpool of rebookings. Even after the countless hours with Alan I failed my tests based on things that were not taught to me catching me by surprise. Within two lessons of a different instructor I am able to drive to the best of my ability and am incredibly confident for my upcoming test.

Fantastic experience: Alan is a truly fantastic instructor. As a mature learner, I did worry about initially getting lessons- he put my mind at ease straight away and made the whole experience a truly enjoyable one from my first lesson, to passing my test. Alan was always patient, very knowledgeable and incredibly thorough. 10/10.

Fantastic experience: I sat my test and passed with the first attempt after lessons with Alan. I was a very anxious driver and Alan was very patient and encouraging.
