Negative experience: AVOID IAN AS A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR - Unprofessional and Frustrating Experience!! I was left extremely disappointed by my driving lessons with Ian. Instead of building my confidence, each session left me feeling more anxious and unprepared. Ian’s feedback was minimal—when I made mistakes, he barely explained how to improve, leaving me to struggle on my own. Instead of offering calm guidance, he spoke to me in a condescending tone which only made me feel more nervous. What really cemented my frustration was his refusal to teach essential maneuvers. Despite my repeated requests to practice parking and other critical skills needed for my test, he dismissed them with comments like, “You’ll figure it out,” or “It’s not necessary.” When we did attempt maneuvers, they were rushed, with no time for corrections or extra practice. Additionally, his unreliability was a constant issue. Ian often cancelled lessons at the last minute without offering any alternative dates or a sincere apology. He never made an effort to reschedule lessons he had cancelled which is extremely unprofessional. I had to clear my schedule on weekends for Ian, only for him to cancel last minute anyway with no regard for my time. On one occasion, he even arrived unannounced, leaving me scrambling to get ready. His dismissive attitude—citing that he “receives 300 messages a day”— was very disrespectful and rude along with the lack of apology. I did pass my test first time and this was purely thanks to the relentless support of my family, friends, neighbours and even a manual car bought by my parents for extra practice - not Ian. The very purpose of hiring a driving instructor is to alleviate that burden, not shift it onto your loved ones. Moreover, after i passed my test, Ian failed to congratulate me once and repeatedly claimed my success was due to him. Overall, his disorganised approach, dismissive teaching style, and poor communication left me with a negative experience. I would strongly advise anyone in need of driving instruction to seek another instructor who values your time, provides clear guidance, and truly supports your learning journey.

Negative experience: DONT FALL FOR THE GOOD REVIEWS LIKE ME!!! I chose Ian for my daughter’s driving lessons based on positive reviews, which now feel very misleading. Our experience was extremely disappointing. Ian canceled the first lesson on my daughter’s 17th birthday, and this pattern continued throughout due to personal commitments like concerts, Christmas markets and the list goes on despite us agreeing on dates around Ian’s schedule. We booked two hours a week and asked about cancellation spots to maximize practice, but Ian often claimed that if my daughter wasn’t ready for her test, we’d need to push the date back. His frequent cancellations and failure to reschedule left her unprepared, and his poor attitude added to our frustration. The limited number of instructors in our area forced us to stick with Ian. While his teaching may be good, his unreliability and lack of empathy were major drawbacks. My daughter did pass her test on the first attempt, but only because family, friends, and neighbors gave up their personal time for lessons, and we had to buy a manual car to prepare, which isn’t an option for everyone. I cannot recommend Ian based on our experience. If he wants to dispute this, I’m happy to share all the screenshots for proof. Update on Ian’s reply. •What about when you cancelled my daughter’s lesson to go to concerts? No make up lesson from your side •Also when you cancelled my daughters lessons to go Christmas markets ? No make up lesson from your side Was so much more excuses for Ian cancelling many lessons •Mostly Ian NEVER made up for his cancelled lessons, without any kind of apology at all. (Screenshots for proof) It’s not fair on your students when they miss out on personal/family commitments to work around your schedule for you just cancel so care free. Very rude •Of course your father comes first, but my response is, you always cancelled on the day of the lesson, on numerous occasions. you never ever made up the lessons, never apologised for inconvenience it may of caused. Finally my daughters first time passing was absolutely NOT down to you, from you being so unreliable & Rude attitude We had to buy a manual car for my daughter to practice in before taking her test (which understandably some can’t) Neighbours, friends, family spent hours daily taking her out to drive for her to learn To finish this off, Ian tried to pressure my daughter to take a picture by his car for facebook and write a good review as soon as she passed her test, which my daughter declined. From our personal experience maybe now I have a better understanding on how you get your ratings & reviews

Negative experience: If you want to waste money then this is the driving school for you. My daughter didnt sit in the drivers seat for 3 lesson, which i understand teaching the cockpit is important, this is pointless from the passanger sest position. Ian NEVER responds to messages and is the most unreliable person we have ever dealt with. Luckily we managed to find another instructor who taught my daughter more in one lesson that these did in 12 lessons! I mean what sort of driving instructor doesnt teach clutch control in 12 lessons. I am baffled how this rating is so high we now several people who tried Ian and soon swapped to a different instructor!!

Fantastic experience: Had a driving instructor cancel on me 2 months before my test, and was not ready at all, had around 3-5 lessons with Ian and passed first time. Brill driving instructor :)

Negative experience: Good driving instructor however, we paid for 20 lessons. After having cancelled some lessons, always apologising and trying to rebook - even if it took them weeks upon weeks to reply to me. They’re not refusing to refund me the last two lessons they owe me and won’t give me the last two hours. Only cancelled recently due to having covid and it took 17 days for a response even then I had to message again to get a response .id avoid if you have children or become poorly waste of time.

Fantastic experience: Ian was my instructor for almost 2 years due to covid. During this time he was relaxed, patient and understanding (despite my occasional tantrums). I was an anxious driver and this was taken into consideration during my lessons. He was also honest about when he felt I was ready to go for my test, so I passed first time. Thanks for sticking with me! I know it mustn't have been easy sometimes :p

Fantastic experience: Ian is a good instructor, calm and patient. I've been driving for 11 years and I was on international driving licence for 12 months in the UK and I had to pass a driving test to get full UK license. I only have 6 hours lesson with him and my driving skill has improved a lot. He will tell you all you need to know or do for you to pass your test first time. He is also honest, he won't suggest you to have more lessons with him to get more money out of you when it's not necessary. He also quite flexible on his time, as I have a fulltime job monday to friday, he didn't mind to work outside office hours on weekdays when its necessary. And his price very reasonable and you can pay as you go. Very recommended!

Negative experience: Waste of one hour introduction! Took me around a quiet area of Holmes Chapel. He informed that a clutch was standard length, as I struggled to find the biting point in his Mini cooper. He then told me how woman usually drive mini Cooper's. I didn't like this at all. UPDATE: Yes you did meet for an hour you had an Hour lesson with me on the 15th November 2018 12.30 till 1,30 in Holmes chapel!!! also introduction meant for myself, As a new driver... Why would anyone just pick on someone for a fake review? Absolutely bizzare comment and also supports my theory of being sexist. AVOID Clearly reviews are fake must have got friends to do them.i New update: No misunderstanding.

Fantastic experience: Definitely would recommend Ian he is the best driving instructor I have ever came across in the uk done a lot of lessons in Manchester and done a lot of lessons in south and I failed. met Ian in Crewe and passed 1st time with him just after 7 hours of driving lessons with Ian, my struggle was roundabouts but until I met Ian he explained how to use them and now I can do it with out any problems, now I am finally on road thanks to Ian the best driving instructor I have ever had

Fantastic experience: I passed with Ian just over a month ago first time. As a more mature learner I was quite apprehensive as to how I would do, but Ian settled my nerves and made me feel very comfortable. He is very patient and explains everything to the full. My Son is now having lessons with Ian which I feel speaks volumes.
