Thorpe's HGV & LGV Driver Training

Fantastic experience: Could not recommend Thorpe's more highly after using them on a couple of occasions. Both myself and another member of staff passed first time with Jason. Everything was handled efficiently from our first contact through to the test. Thanks and all the best.

Fantastic experience: Just gone from class 2 to class 1. Passed first time with Sean. Cracking bloke, really easy to get on with, and very calming. There were no surprises on the test, as we covered all the routes in the training (even some gnarly junctions, and dodgy roundabouts). I couldn't have been any more prepared for my test. I thoroughly enjoyed my training and went into my test feeling confident. Thank you so much Sean, for a lovely week. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

Fantastic experience: If anyone is interested in getting their class 1 done or any other sort of hgv vehicles I highly recommend you guys go with thorpes, they have the best instructors easy to learn and well explained. Very happy to pass my class 1 on 28/09/23 been a dream come true and had a great time learning with Shawn, and Chris brilliant people to be instructed by and can't wait to come for next year to do my category D. And thanks alot to the team it's been a good journey.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Thorpes HGV & LGV driving training. I went to Thropes with 0 knowledge on artics and after a weeks training I passed my class 1 first time. I also highly recommend my instructor Chris, he took his time to go into full detail and put all his knowledge into teaching me everything I needed to know and more! He made me feel super comfortable and at ease. When meeting the other instructor Sean, I had a very pleasant experience,was very friendly and was easy to get on with. Overall I am very impressed with the outcome and couldn’t have asked for it to go any better!

Negative experience: Worst place ever, very bad attitude towards customer, instructor was more interested in his phone than watching my driving. Paid for 16hrs did 12 at most, failed twice, highly not recommended!

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be a good truck driver. i was learn by Sean and i really recommend his teaching methods, during the exam i was in every place i was during the training. I was perfectly prepared for every possible route of the exam. 11/10! ✅

Fantastic experience: Fantastic instructors, I learnt with Chris, he's a very experienced ex-driver turned trainer with fantastic teaching skills. The whole process was organised efficiently by Tom. The vehicle I learnt in was clean and modern and I would recommend Thorpes to any prospective learner, my only regret is that I didnt go for my Class 1 license sooner.

Negative experience: Worse school ever did class one and failed your ment to get one to one but when I was doing my revising exercise I was doing it with other person. Also noted by other people tom is a nightmare to get hold of you can't sort anything out with him he will ignore you. I will be do my re test with someone else

Negative experience: Do not waste your money! The instructors are really good the biggest issue I had was tom. He doesn't answer his phone to confirm anything. I didn't know what time I had to start until the day before so had to rush about to get child care. It took me 2 weeks to sort out my cpc told me to be there for a certain day I get there and changes the date he did this 3 times. I also booked for 20 hours I only did 12 hours training plus test. He couldn't get me booked in on the Friday because he left it to late so ended up taking it on Thursday. Lucky I did pass but will definitely be doing class one else where

Fantastic experience: I just wanted to thank Sean for his patience and professionalism this week which then enabled me to pass 1st time on my Class 2. A big thank you to Chris aswell. Highly recommend these instructors.

Fantastic experience: My son Carl passed his HGV class one 1st time Never driven a big lorry before. He listened to his instructor and learnt from Him . He did a great job. 1st class company. Also thanks Tom for all your help In organising it for him.

Negative experience: I've since passed my test, passed in December ,not with Thorpes though, good job I didn't wait for them to call me on Sunday sometime in November 2021 because I'm still waiting.been driving for 4months accident free, not even a scrape, no thanks to these guys.Find somebody more reliable like I did( personal opinion ofcourse)

Fantastic experience: Passed my class 1 with Thorpe’s LGV driver training in December last year and it was the best experience I’ve had with a driver training school having done my class 2 elsewhere 5 years ago . My instructor John was 1st class couldn’t ask for a better instructor . Patience of a saint and the endless knowledge he’s got of the whole driving industry is crazy ! You won’t having any issues been taught by John at all . I passed 1st time with John . Top bloke

Negative experience: Very unprofessional outfit, snapped my hand off to take my deposit then was very slow from then on. Turned up on day 1 of my 16 hours class 2 course to find a lorry that would not start and i was stood around for an hour waiting for the trainers dad who owns the business to come and start the lorry. The class 2 unit in question is old , bright yellow and with a faulty handbrake which on my test the examiner nearly failed me because the lorry was screaming “handbrake not applied” even though it was applied, had to convince the examiner that the lorry did indeed have its handbrake applied despite the warnings, not a great start to a test. Had jason as my instructor and not too bad but was very rude in certain instances but each to there own and that wasn’t a huge issue. Also dealing with Tom as previously noted by others is a challenge in itself over the phone. Passed my class 2 on second attempt but will definitely be looking elsewhere for class 1 training even if it costs more than at thorpes.

Fantastic experience: I highly recommend Thorpe's for your HGV training. I passed my class 2 first time after 20 hours of tuition as well as my CPC. From never stepping foot inside a lorry to being a qualified class 2 HGV driver in 5 days, I want to give a huge thanks to Tom, Jason but more importantly my instructor John Rogers! Strict when he needed to be, John got me feeling very confident by the day of my test and i smashed it. Thanks again guys (",)

Fantastic experience: Started my Class 1 training with Jason at Thorpe’s on Saturday... today I passed my Class 1 test today on my first attempt. Would highly recommend this company, thanks to Jason for putting up with me being nervous every day and coaching me on how to pass. I ‘got it done’ thanks very much.

Negative experience: Lack of communication from Tom he tends to forget and blames you for his mistake instructors are very good shame office is not

Fantastic experience: I did my class 2 with Tom in 2010 and was very much impressed, now deciding to do my class 1 training, l couldn't look anywhere else, l gave them a ring in the middle of the Pandemic December 2020, trained by Jason, very professional, he will tell you everything needed by the examiners. I passed mine first time. Already working for a good company with a jump of about £4000p/a from class 2. I highly recommend them based on what they can offer, thus Value for Money, Professionalism, Experience & more. Thank you Tom & Jason.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic company, Trained with Jason. Passed Class 2 first time! Did a five day course of 4hrs a day Monday to Friday, having never driven an hgv before I was awful to begin with. But by Friday I was a confident and able driver. Jason was professional and strict when he needed to be. Would definitely recommend Thorpes to train with, 5stars!

Negative experience: The worst school I have had in my life!!! Complete lack of professionalism, complete ignorance, cutting down the time of driving lessons, lack of instructor engagement, I did class one obviously did not pass I lost money I changed scool and I went to Atkins LGV Training, where it was full of professionalism, very very good school and of course I passed!!!

Fantastic experience: Being completely new to the truck driving world this time last week I was a little daunted as to how things would go. I didn't need to worry. My instructor was John Flowers and he couldn't have made it simpler. I passed my practical Class C on Friday at the first attempt. Very good value driving school. If you want to drive trucks I would certainly recommend this school.

Fantastic experience: After looking around, I decided to go with Thorpes Training for my class 2 training this week, I had the pleasure of John flowers as my instructor who is a very pleasant bloke and explains very clearly, exactly what to do and when to do it. Shows you all the tricks to help you out. I passed with only 2 minor on the road faults. This morning also passed my cpc mod 4 with Thorpes and I am back in, in 2 weeks when my license returns to go for my class 1. Thankyou also to Tom and Jason, who also played a part in my training, regards Richard. Update:- started my class 1 with Jason on Monday, passed my test today on the Friday 1st time, 4 on the road faults(bit nervous) Jason is a very good instructor, helps you all the way through, shows you the reversing manouvre, and lets you crack on and do it, until you master it. I highly recommend Thorpes, passed both my driving tests 1st time and passed my mod 4. Thankyou to everyone at Thorpes.

Fantastic experience: I spent 3 day's training with john roger's from thorpe's to do my class 2 hgv, and in my 3 day's of training i have never been made so relaxed and confident in the training i was given by john, the whole experiance was brilliant and with this training and understanding i passed 1st time with flying colours, highly recomended, i cannot thank john and thorpe's enough, thank you.

Fantastic experience: Passed first time with Jason was patient even though I made a few mistakes and made sure I perfected it learned to drive a truck in 3 days. Would recommend to anyone who wants to pass the first time and who doesn't want to pay a lot of money. Thanks again brilliant lads

Fantastic experience: DAZ RAD.....Clearly a DESPERATE attempt from a DESPERATELEY Short of work local lgv driving school. DAZ RAD a FICTITIOUS name and a FICTITIOUS REVIEW. Take this as a very valuable lesson whilst choosing your LGV DRIVING SCHOOL FOLKS.

Fantastic experience: Where do I start? Helpful even before I started the training. I started Monday and passed my LGV class 2 driving test on Friday first time. All the guys at Thorpes are good and friendly. The trucks used are good, modern and well maintained. For my driver training I had John Rogers as my instructor - what a guy, he's so genuine, helpful and is personally interested in you passing your test, his help has changed mine and my family's life, he gives you professional training along with confidence boosts. His experience he has to offer is there for learners to use, and he has a lot of experience in the HGV/LGV world. If you are reading these reviews you are probably shopping around trying to find a LGV driving school, well you might as well stop your search here, that's what I did. Do what he says, keep calm, take it easy and you'll pass. If I could give more that 5 stars I would. Thanks John Rogers again, and the guys at Thorpes. John Rogers has now moved to another training school.

Fantastic experience: Great set of supportive guys at Thorpes. Listen to what they instruct and you'll smash it. Tommy got me through my class 2 ready for class 1! I would definitely recommend Thorpes if you are wanting to train in LGV and HGV.
