Fantastic experience: Alan’s instructing propelled me to a test pass with ZERO faults His calm, cool, and laid back demeanour allowed me to gain confidence behind the wheel. A major thing that helped me is his attitude to mistakes, not making a big deal out of them or making me feel bad about it, and helping me to understand what and where I went wrong. He is an excellent driving instructor, who gives his all to his students, and I couldn’t have done it without him.

Alan is very friendly, helpful and experienced and was always super willing, and able to answer my questions. Fantastic experience: I needed a few refresher lessons having not driven for a few years. Alan built my confidence quickly with a good variety of routes and situations. Before the lessons Alan asked and listened to what I wanted to practice and was sure to incorporate such situations. His knowledge of roads and areas is impeccable so he could anticipate some events I might encounter and guage my reaction, which is just what I needed to build that confidence. Fantastic experience: I’ve had a great experience learning with Alan, he has been very understanding when I haven’t been able to have lessons some weeks but is also very encouraging and positive. Along with himself, his car is lovely to learn to drive in with it being comfortable and straight forward. I couldn’t be happier after passing first time with Alan. I would highly recommend!

Negative experience: PLEASE READ. It may save you hundreds! I would recommend avoiding learning to drive with Alan at all costs, i understand that at the moment there is far greater demand for driving lessons than there is supply. I also recognise that almost every other review is positive. I feel i am in a unique position of having used mulitiple driving instructors and therefore actually have the ability to compare services unlike most people in current times who will want to stick with the first instructor they get out of fear of not being able to find a new one with any availability. In my first lesson with Alan i drove up and down a straight road, that was it. No turns, no reversing and certainly no practical driving experience. Alan employs a system where if you "pass" the area he spent 15-30 minutes of time you are paying for driving you to (and back for that matter) then you may move on to the next area, i "passed" the first 3 areas. In those lessons the most advanced thing i covered was a small roundabout. Using another driving instructor, in the first lesson, i cannot stress that enough, the first lesson. I covered: turns into and out of T junctions, traffic lights, roundabouts, reversing and a few other bits that i hadnt even got close to with Alan after 5 or so lessons, this was in part due to the fact that the other instructor gave me a place to meet him for the lessons (there was the option for this to be directly from my house). And from the meeting point i drove away and didn't get out of the drivers seat until the end of the lesson, with Alan we were constantly swapping seats and stopping to talk about trivial nonsense like driving in a straight line when joining a roundabout; i realise this is useful however he spent 15 minutes talking about it even after i had made it very clear that i understood what he was saying after about 1 minute. Alan treats you like an idiot, which you are when it comes to knowledge of how to drive a car, however he fails to realise that his job is to improve peoples knowledge of exactly that. How to drive a car!! And the best way to do that for the vast majority of people is practical experience, in other words, driving a damn car. Not swapping seats for him to get you back up to the other side of the road or driving to a specific location. My other instructor chooses areas, less specific to one long quiet road but a quiet area perhaps where the setting is far, far, far more realistic and useful. Alan overcomplicates driving to people who have just touched the wheel for the first time, he concentrates on rev range of the car far too much (i think this may be to reduce wear and tear on his oh so precious ford puma). I would go as far to say he strings the lessons on purposefully to get as much money out of you as possible. However i obviously dont know whether this is the case or whether its a matter of incompetence. With my new instructor i have the same lesson times (1hr 30) for the same price Alan charged and in half the amount of them i feel infinitely more confident than i did after my 5 or so with Alan. He may have a high pass rate from his students, but would you rather pass your test having spent (£ insert very big number) on lessons or a fraction of that? Because thats the difference in rate of progression ive experienced. Alan is a nice enough guy, but thats not what your looking for from a driving instructor.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Alan highly enough. He is incredibly knowledgeable, calm and patient even during stressful situations and has an ability to explain things in a way that is easy to understand and will stick in your memory - those that have experienced his rhymes and phrases will know exactly what I mean! And not only that, he is fantastic company and makes an hour and a half in a car feel like ten minutes. He didn’t just teach me how to pass a driving test, he has equipped me with the skills to be a safe and efficient driver for life. Alan would be top of my list for anyone looking for a driving instructor.

Fantastic experience: Alan is the biggest credit to the profession of driving instructors you could ever hope to find. I started learning to drive with Alan in the summer of 2021 and it was the first time I’d ever got behind the wheel of a car. I was so nervous but I remember how good Alan was at making me feel at ease and how clearly he explained everything. I always felt safe and never out of my depth. I was at Uni on the other side of the country and so had lessons throughout the holidays ready for my test in August 2022. I was so prepared and Alan did an incredible job of not only getting me up to test standard but developing my skills further and making sure I was going to be a confident and competent driver. I was so ready to go but sometimes things happen on the day you can’t ever truly prepare for. Unfortunately I got in my own head, made errors I never would have made and failed my test. I was gutted but Alan was still so full of confidence that I would be able to keep working hard and conquer it on my next attempt, and I had a renewed and strengthened determination . Fast forward a year and in July 2023 I restarted my lessons to prepare for my now rebooked test in September 2023. Except I’d misremembered the date and found out the test was actually at the beginning of August, 10 days before I was due to sit it!! Alan was simply incredible, theres no other way to put it. He went above and beyond to give me as many lessons as he could to get me ready to test. I truly don’t think anyone else would have been as accommodating and exceptional under the circumstances. It gave me so much confidence to know that he fully believed in me and I passed my test second time around with only 4 minors. I cannot thank Alan enough for how incredible he has been over the last 2 years and I am certain anyone else who has been fortunate enough to have him teach them to drive will feel the same way. Now I have my independence to drive and as a placement student that is something that is so important. Alan never underestimated that importance and has taught me invaluable lessons I will take with me for the rest of my time driving, and I’ll miss all of our weird and wonderful conversations in the car! Thank you so much Alan, I cannot recommend you enough!!!

Fantastic experience: I had a great time learning with Alan. I'd been practicing in a family members car already and we were quickly able to establish what level I was at and tailor lessons appropriately so they weren't below or above what I was ready for. For every manoeuvre and road feature Alan has a step by step process for safely navigating it so you've always got easy to remember checkpoints in your mind to go through. Throughout all the lessons we had lots of good conversations where I could be honest about how I was thinking and get clarity on points I wasn't sure about or adapt the plan for the lesson, so I didn't feel under pressure. Fantastic experience: I started driving before the Coronavirus pandemic with my parents with every intention of booking driving lessons in preparation for my test. Sadly, we were forced into lockdown and this meant my parents had the tough job of teaching me to drive. With further lockdowns and uncertainty, I decided to book a test knowing I would be waiting a few months before I could get one. This is when I approached Alan over a year after I had started driving. Alan was incredibly accommodating even in the current climate with driving lesson availability being sparse. We decided on a few lessons to polish my skills and to make sure I was ready for my test. From the moment I first contacted Alan our correspondence was professional and friendly. When I first got in his immaculately clean and maintained car, I immediately felt at ease. His professionalism and knowledge shines through in everything he does to help you along your driving journey. Whether it be taking you to places that are commonly used by the examiners to practice manoeuvres or the gems of wisdom he imparts in his easy to remember phrases to prepare you for your test. Alan is a genuine and reliable driving instructor. Never once did he push me for more lessons, always going over and above to ensure my experience was positive and informative. I am sure it was difficult to reverse some of the bad habits I had picked up over my year of driving, but Alan was always supportive and constructive with his feedback which culminated in me feeling relaxed and prepared for my test. After passing first time yesterday with only one minor, all I can say is thank you Alan for all your support and for the knowledge you have imparted on me. Fantastic experience: Having passed my test a few years back and not driven since my driving skills were very rusty. I was also very nervous but Alan has helped me to find my confidence to get back on the road. He made me feel completely at ease, and is full of useful techniques and phrases to help you with driving. I now feel able to take what he has taught/reminded me and apply it to the road. Fantastic experience: Alan has been an absolutely incredible instructor and has never failed to put me at ease and get the best out of me. All lessons were conducted professionally and with fantastic attention to detail; with all instructions being explained clearly and thoroughly whilst maintaining a comfortable atmosphere in the car. What's more, Alan never once tried to push for more lessons than were necessary, unlike some instructors, and placed great emphasis on trying to get me passed as quickly and to as high a standard as possible. I did so, passing today with only two minors and I couldn't recommend Alan more. If you're in his area, save yourself the trouble and look no further!

Fantastic experience: I couldn’t have had a better driving instructor than Alan!! I have never felt scared or anxious driving with him- even when I first began learning to drive. I have always felt safe and he has always been calm and a great teacher who realises mistakes are natural. I always looked forward to his lessons and I’ve enjoyed his company. It’s been a bit of a weird experience this year with covid and it put a massive delay to our lessons and my test date, but we stayed in contact and we soon got back to test standard when lessons could restart. Fantastic experience: Alan is an amazing instructor, great at explaining scenarios, helps with many little tips. Despite the difficulties of arranging time for lessons, Alan was very flexible, making the changes necessary to ensure I passed. Would highly recommend to any first time drivers, or anyone who has been previously driving but not passed.

Fantastic experience: Alan is a fantastic instructor who manged to bring me up to test standard in just 3 weeks after my old instructor stopped working. He is very accommodating as he is able to do lessons around your schedule and confirms availability every week. He has developed a fool-proof parallel parking technique that gets perfect results every time in his very clean and comfortable car. 10/10, I would highly recommend Alan to anyone who is thinking about learning to drive.

Fantastic experience: Amazing! Alan helped me pass my test even though I had been away at university for 4 months we still managed to make it work. He was so helpful and really tailored the driving lesson to what I needed not just what I should be doing at that stage of lessons. I found that even when I wasn’t quite on the ball that day Alan helped me to smash the driving anyway! I wouldn’t have been able to pass without Alan. Fantastic experience: Firstly - Thank you! Alan for helping me pass my driving test on the first attempt! Your are a gem of a driving instructor and a very humble human being. I truly enjoyed our classes together. Though i have driven for almost 15 years of my life it was on the left side of the road and in different countries and i had picked up many bad habits(techniques) along the way. e.g i used to hold the steering wheel with one hand. this is very risky in the UK driving conditions and alan immediately spotted it on my first drive out with him. Teaching someone entirely new might be challenging but helping someone like me unlearn and learn the correct & safe techniques needs patience and perseverance and alan has tons of it. I liked how he planned our classes according to the level i needed and that made every class so much exciting as i was unlearning and learning something new. He is always watching your every move and tailors the session accordingly while constantly providing feedback when it is safe to do. Besides his excellent driving lessons he is true professional and has everything well planned and would provide or expect any updates much ahead of the booked slot. His car is beautiful and well maintained and in my opinion perfect for learning to drive. And lastly thank you for playing your part in making our roads safer. every driver you train means another safe and competent driver on our roads. You are doing a great service. Anyone out there who wishes to learn driving the right way and wants to be safe and keep others safe on the road and lives in the areas alan covers that don't think twice and just go ahead and enjoy your sessions with Alan. Fantastic experience: A very calm instructor and he gave me clear instructions to get me to where I wanted to be. We did a semi intensive over 5 weeks and I successfully past first time today! I would definitely consider Alan as your instructor he made my learning time very enjoyable.

Fantastic experience: What can I say about Alan, I can not recommend this lovely man enough! I have been with Alan since day one of his LDC journey and passed today all thanks to him! He is an amazing instructor, makes sure you feel at ease and really makes you feel like you’ve got a friend with you supporting you at the wheel, I really couldn’t recommend him enough! Fantastic experience: Alan has been a brilliant driving instructor. He has tought me, as an existing driver, not driven for 10 years to get back on the road safely. Throughout our lessons he has always been calm, patient, encouraging, put me at ease and given me confidence. He is articulate in explaining what he wants you to do and why it's important or necessary giving you a better grounding and understanding. He has been easy to communicate and arrange lessons with. I feel I struck very lucky with Alan as a teacher and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to others.

Fantastic experience: Alan has been fantastic! Our son is trying to get his lessons finished whilst on vacation from uni and Alan has been very accommodating to our family, patient beyond belief and an excelllent teacher. Our son is very sad to say cheerio and is now heading to Devon for some work and will sign up with another LDC instructor. We know it's not normal practice for a learner to need to go between two or more instructors but Alan has been aware of our circumstances and so helpful. Alan... you have been such a blessing. Fantastic experience: I would have no hesitation recommending Alan as a driving instructor. He explained everything in an easy-to-follow manner, structured my lessons in a way that always challenged me, and taught me real driving skills, that will benefit me long after I passed my test. Alan's feedback was always constructive, and his lesson plans were catered to what I wanted to do, as well as what he knew I needed improvement on. His calm demeanour, and sunny disposition, put me at ease, and meant that I felt confident in my ability going into the Test Centre. Learning to drive in your 30s brings its own pressures, but Alan's approach alleviates those, and allows you to just get on with learning. The Nissan Juke is slightly larger than the typical learner driver car. However, its raised position in the road gives you a great view, the lights sit proud and make it easier to gauge where the four corners of the car are, and the large wing mirrors make parking manoeuvres simpler. I have already recommended Alan to another learner driver I know, and will definitely be passing on his details to any other people I know, who are interested in learning how to drive.
