Fantastic experience: We found Dave when my daughter was learning. We had been through two other instructors with limited success. It seemed that they wanted to coach you to pass the test rather than to learn to drive AND pass the test. Dave was a breath of fresh air. His approach is thorough and professional and he really does teach the learners how to drive. Since meeting Dave my daughter passed first time with minimal faults and my son passed today with zero faults which the examiner told us is very rare. I put all that down to Dave's coaching and cajoling and the way he approaches what he does. If you are looking for someone who will make you (or your kids if they are learning) a better driver then look no further than Dave Hall.
That's very kind Steve. It was great to receive the help of yourself, and be able to share experiences to help Harry achieve his goal. He absolutely deserves the result today.
Negative experience: I'm confused at how there are so many glowing reviews, when my experience was the exact opposite with Dave. I found him stressful to deal with, condescending and outright rude. He actually swore at me in a lesson before, despite me obviously trying my best, as if I should be an expert driver off the bat. I normally work quite well in these situations, as I am cooperative and non-argumentative, but that didn't seem to help me here. I dreaded every lesson I had to wake up for, where I'd be lectured if I didn't go outside and wait in the cold for him rather than waiting inside and coming out when he arrived. I got lectured for not knowing the highway code in depth, as if anyone does. I felt much of my time and money was wasted here and would not be back.
Sam, Everyone has the opportunity to provide a review, and in my 17 years, I have never had to feel the need to respond and clarify a review. Unfortunately, Your review is innacurate, misleading and dated. Here are some SMART (Specific Measurable Accurate Relevant and Tmed) facts. You came to me in October 2023 having had 20 previous hours of experience, 14 hours in 2021 and 6 hours in 2023. You stated you had passed your theory test and in your opinion did not require many lessons before a test. This did not turn out to be the case. Living away from home also became problematic, due to the gaps in your learning. You certainly weren't expected to be an expert driver, but you werent learning as you say from "off the bat" as you said you had received 20 previous hours. We tried to get you up to the standard required, but the progress was slow. All pupils are encouraged to read and understand the Highway Code, as driving requires you to understand the rules and not rely on multiple choice options as you are driving down the road. You didnt understand the rules, so you were encouraged to understand it more than you did. You were living in student accomodation, and your room did not face onto the road, and the road was hidden by a large hedge, so you were unable to see when i was waiting. You were not expected to wait outside in the cold, and i did send you messages when i arrived because you weren't always ready, and i was always early. You were provided with comprehensive lesson notes and a progress chart, which detailed the date and time of your next lesson, i have several text messages and whatsapp messages from you saying you had forgotten lesson times and dates and wanted reminders of your lessons. I appreciate that you found learning to drive challenging, and after a large amount of lessons, you were given a mock test to consider your sutability for taking the practical test that you had booked on the 21st March. On the 13th March you took your mock test and had 1 dangerous fault, 4 serious faults and 6 driving faults. Clearly you were not ready for the test, and you were advised that you would not be ready or able to take your test the following week. The following day, you messaged me to say that you were going to delay the test until the summer and find an instructor when you returned home during the Easter Break. I wished you good luck and immediately refunded you with the money for lessons you had paid for and not taken. The 100 other reviews have been submitted after having been taught by myself, who is a Grade A 48/51 Approved Driving Instructor with a pass rate well above the National Pass Rate. I will leave those that read this response to consider it with all of the other reviews that have been submitted by very happy customers.
