Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing instructor. Passed first time with her after having many obstacles to overcome during learning. Would highly recommend as she is patient, kind and caring and will go over things until you have got it, no matter how long it takes. FAB!!

Fantastic experience: Easy 5 stars for Mark, passed first time with 4 minors, that's the good thing about Mark, he will only recommend you take a test when he genuinely thinks there is a very good chance you will pass. He is also absolutely top notch crack in the car and always in a good mood so lessons don't feel high pressure at all.

Fantastic experience: I would like to leave a 5 star review for JOHN WILLS he was an amazing driving instructor for our daughter Millie. He built her confidence from the pre learner lessons right through to the day she sat her test. He is patient, down to earth and is really easy to get on with. He relates amazingly well to people and is always calm and positive. Nothing was a bother and he was flexible and communicated really well with her regarding dates, times and pick up points for lessons. He was straight down the line and made her lessons fun, interesting and varied routes to improve her driving experience. He was very thorough and kept her app updated so we could all see the progress she was making. He was totally supportive throughout all her lessons and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to others and have no hesitation to give him a 5 star ⭐️ review Many Thanks John - she turned 17 in May and passed her test 3 months later - would def recommend the pre starter lessons it gives you a good opportunity to try a few instructors and see who u feel you get on with - this is a great facility at Hadrians Camp and vouchers are a great present for a young person.

Fantastic experience: I have had great time learning to drive with Claire, she has a special way in teaching and makes it a comfortable experience she is very patient, kind and considerate and puts her self out for her pupils. She gave me loads of confidence and i passed first time which was the best feeling, Claire has endless knowledge on road safety and everything to do with driving. I couldn’t recommend her enough.

Before I started driving on the roads, I learnt the basics at the off-road site, which helped build my confidence when I first started driving. New Starters is definitely a good option to learn how to drive with.

Fantastic experience: Really friendly and patient instructors. They have great knowledge and are happy to answer any questions to help further your understanding. I would 100% recommend! Edit: I managed to pass my test first time with a few lessons off-road (before I turned 17) and 3 months driving on the road (after I turned 17). This wouldn’t have been possible without my excellent driving instructor Matt! He made my driving experience enjoyable and created a calm environment to learn in. I would have no hesitation recommending New Starters to anyone wanting to learn to drive.

Fantastic experience: I'm an older driver and was very nervous about starting or even passing my driving test but New Starters have been brilliant. Stephen was my first instructor on the off road site - and just telling me I would pass really helped more than he would know. I was then moved over to Lynda to really being lessons in earnest this January and now I passed first time 3 weeks ago. Highly recommend this driving school - especially to any older drivers, who like me, want to get the independence that so many take for granted.

Fantastic experience: I passed my test with only one error. Ian Thompson is very professional and patient. The hybrid Renaud Clio car is quite comfortable for new starters to learn how to drive. Due to my work time, I require many intensive lessons, and Ian always did his best to schedule the lessons for me. I would also recommend everyone just pass the test and take one or two lessons in night driving and motorway driving. I found that is very helpful and makes you more confident.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely the only choice for driving schools in Carlisle. The key word being quality. Prior to landing at New Starters' door I'd been through two independent instructors, who for worse, taught me how to drive like them. Whereas New Starters taught me to drive properly. By the end of my short time with New Starters, they'd undone all the bad habits I'd been taught in a calm, professional manner, that didn't simply inform me on how to drive, but allowed me to understand what it means and what it takes to be a GOOD driver. I personally trained with Steve, the owner of New Starters. But if he's taught the rest of his instructors even half as well as he's taught me, you'll be sound with any one of them. Not only that but you can be assured that you'll be the safest you can possibly be on the road. You won't just be taught to pass the test, you'll be able taught to drive well. Absolutely worth every penny, can't recommend them highly enough, sheer quality, care and pride in the job. They also have an app that keeps you up to date on your progress, kind of like a planner & stat tracker combined. Let's you know what to work on, as well as keeping you up to date on you next lessons. Very handy for all involved. Honestly, you won't be going wrong with New Starters. Even if you have to wait a while for availability, unless you're very pressed for time it's worth the wait.

Fantastic experience: I started off road driving lessons with Claire Cooper from New Starters just before my birthday in May, and within two months after my birthday I was passed and on the roads !!! I couldn't recommend the company or more specifically Claire more, both of who were incredibly helpful, organized and made me feel ready to ace my driving test.

Fantastic experience: I've had lessons from a few different companies over the years. New Starters, particularly the instructor Lynda, was fantastic and helped me to earn an almost flawless first time pass.

Negative experience: Watched the instructor run a red light on caldewgate at 15:36 what a way to teach your pupils

Negative experience: Bought a voucher for our daughter so she could take a lesson before she's starts driving, tried to book the lesson but nobody ever gets back to you, left numerous voice messages ans emails. You can never get anyone to answer the phone when you call it an absolute joke. Our daughter turns 17 next week and can start driving properly so an absolute waste of money now, it's disgusting avoid booking with them at all cost they take your money quick enough then your left in the dark. Disgusting customer service.

Fantastic experience: I’ve had the best experience with New Starters! I started my driving journey with Jess and completed it with Scott. My experience has been totally faultless. As somebody who struggles with anxiety, I was worried my anxiety would get the better of me and I’d never pass my test, but I passed FIRST TIME today!!! These instructors are amazing in their own ways and I couldn’t have done it without them. Both have the patience of saints and have provided me with so many tips and techniques to help me overcome my anxiety and to achieve what I have. I can now drive by myself on the road. Fantastic experience: Shame the instructor can't wave and say thanks for when you let her push infront of you in heavy traffic. Even a little smile or a nod of the head would have been nice. Saying thanks is secondary is rubbish. Ive drove for 16 years and give way to thousands of instructors. I understand they are teaching but every instructor has always gave a little not to say thanks.

Fantastic experience: I was hoping to pass in a relatively short timeframe for work, and luckily I went with an intensive course with New Starters. They were very responsive and flexible from start to finish, and it didn't take long at all to get an assessment and course booked with Stephen. The course was very well structured, focused on my strengths and weaknesses, and Stephen was an excellent instructor. He had me test ready in around 15-20 hours, and after first enquiring at the end of January, I passed first time on 9 March. If you're in the Carlisle area and looking at intensives, 100% avoid national Schools and give New Starters a call. I couldn't recommend them any higher. Thanks Steve! :)

Fantastic experience: I should have done this a long time ago, but it goes... I was desperate for a good driving instructor, after I had been demoralised and tossed about by two previous driving instructors down South. I was left confused with zero confidence. I moved up North and found New Starters, I had given myself a timeline to pass and time was of essence so as getting test dates. New Starters took me on , Steve! He wasn't just my instructor but also my friend, motivator and even my accountant ( taught me to be a cost efficient driver), he taught me like my late father would have. Three-day intensive training later, I passed first time! I was so overwhelmed I couldn't stop crying . The lessons you gave are for Life, thank you.

Fantastic experience: After being told I would not be test ready this year, from a previous instructor, I moved to New Starters. My instructor, Jess, had the patience of a Saint. Because I was a nervous driver and took me out driving for a few lessons and gave me a couple pointers. A few weeks later I was booked in for my test, passed first time. Not only were they incredibly proactive, reliable and efficient but my instructor Lorna was absolutely amazing: accommodating, friendly, patient & knowledgeable. She got me through my test first time with 16 hours worth of intensive lessons. Absolutely recommend!

Lorna was always very positive & patient. She helped and supported me to build and maintain my confidence at my own pace.
