Fantastic experience: My partner and I both were lucky enough to have Gary as our amazing driving instructor. Despite us both being quite nervous drivers, Gary was a brilliant instructor whose in-depth knowledge of driving and the Highway Code really helped us to feel more confident. We had both failed previous tests with different driving schools, but passed first time since being taught by Gary!

Fantastic experience: I have previously failed my driving test 5 times, and it had been over 4 years since my last attempt. I started using Garry a few months ago and he completely turned things around. He does not let you forget a mistake, which is highly important for positive habit building. Both me and my partner passed this week because of his excellent teaching. Very grateful and he is highly recommended.

Negative experience: Lesson good but organisation is disappointing. It’s probably fine if you have a flexible schedule and don’t work daytime hours. 48 hours is required if you need to cancel a lesson without charge but instructors can cancel on you with a couple of hours notice without offering a quick reschedule. You are expected to miss your lesson for the week and just accept it - I expressed to the school that I didn’t think this was fair as it slows down your progress and they didn’t seem to think it was a problem I think it should be emphasised to students before they begin that lessons can be cancelled at very short notice when other students take driving tests as this wasn’t made clear to me, and if you are someone who schedules time off work for lessons that could be really inconvenient In total I took only 2 lessons, lesson 2 got rescheduled which I didn’t mind but lesson 3 got cancelled same-day and overall this didn’t give me a good impression of the school as I thought we had agreed on a specific lesson time and I felt like my time wasn’t respected, so I changed to a different school.

Gaary taught me and helped me pass first time - I had never driven in the area prior but he managed to get me familiar with every route in a very short space of time, couldn't recommend him enough!

The lessons provided not just a good understanding of the test requirements, but also developed the skills essential to driving safely for life beyond the practical test. Despite starting out a more nervous student than average, we made good consistent progress in the lessons. My ability was judged honestly and accurately throughout, and I'm certain that I had no more or fewer lessons than were required to reach a safe standard of driving. Dave successfully managed to impose his ideas on me in very few lessons. And guess what I passed in the first Attempt. Fantastic experience: After 42 hours of driving lessons, even with several months break between lessons due to lockdowns, I arrived at the driving test confident in my training and ability to understand road rules and to operate a car in a variety of situations. I passed the first time with 5 minor faults. The price of lessons is very reasonable, especially so given the quality of the tuition itself. I was always able to organize a lesson even around the instructor's busy schedule and my university work and job. Gary's tutorage across the lessons was very effective for me. His attention to your actions, combined with his depth of understanding of road rules, car operation, and typical learners’ thought processes allows for him to produce clear instructions and feedback when mistakes are made. Straightforward, he cuts to the point and is highly realistic about your ability which I found very beneficial. He would make apparent my ignorance about errors which allowed them to be identified and rectified quickly as well as bolster my confidence through demonstrating my capabilities. Be realistic and committed to learning to drive and Gary's tutorage will become indispensable for you. Whenever a local friend or relative inquires to me about driving lessons, I will enthusiastically endorse using Brake-thru Driving School.

Fantastic experience: Failed a number of times with various driving companies before I found Break-Thru. I don’t know what the other review was regarding Nick as he is so patient, makes you at ease and wants to ensure you get it right 1st time when you take your test. Same as all the instructors @ Break-Thru. I also had lessons with Dilwar since the beginning of August this year, who is absolutely amazing but unfortunately he wasn’t able to attend my test. However, I was not left in the lurch. Break-Thru ensured I was still able to take my test even though my own instructor was not available. I was able to pass 1st time with Garry! He made me feel relaxed, comfortable and gave me the confidence to believe in myself. They’re teaching is brilliant and truthful. Which is all I would ever ask for when being instructed to drive. And help you to work on areas that need improving to get you to test standard. I would recommend Break-Thru to all my friends, family & anyone who enquires about learning to drive and wanting to pass their test. Absolutely brilliant communication and fantastic customer service. I could not find fault in any of the instructors or the company itself. You guys made my Christmas! Thank you very much.

Negative experience: Total waste of money, had Nick Basset as driving instructor and is a total waste of time and money, they are just trying to sell you hours, after 30 hours of driving i have done only once the manoeuvres and he is refusing to go to my driving test. went to another school, for four hours, they said i'm more than ready. Nearly every lesson he was late 10 minutes or leaving earlier, paid thirty hours, done only 28.... And misinforming as well, he told me i would've failed my test for hesitation mistake as was a major fault (i hesitated to enter a roundabout, which counts as a minor fault)...And every time since I began all that he said is that I'm not ready and he's not taking me to the exam, he didn't even gave me a chance to prove otherwise which made me feel unconfident. And he used his phone a few times during my lessons which is not legal or professional.

Fantastic experience: I wanted to put into words how incredibly skilled Tony Ryan the Gosport area instructor is. I passed first time on theory (48/50 questions & 66/75 hazard perception) then first time on practical (4/16 minors). As I work in the motor trade it spurred me to look into taking lessons and completing my test again, having been discouraged a few years previous. As a result I have taken a couple of lessons per month from Tony since March, with a view to taking my test before the end of the year. From the very first lesson I found Tony to be an incredibly knowledgeable, patient, friendly and genuinely decent person. A quick look at the back of his license confirms he can drive pretty much anything with wheels too, so you know you’re in safe hands from day one. His goal is to make all his students the best possible drivers they can be, in his words to provide “a smooth, safe, comfortable drive", therefore passing the tests becomes incidental because he is encouraging you to try and master good road craft early. Get close to that and the test is made easy, in fact on the day of the test I wasn't that nervous because he's so good at putting you at ease and carefully going over everything you've learnt so far. The real genius of Tony’s style is he never gets angry or raises his voice; he always stays calm and in control. If you have a particularly good lesson he will say “well done” and it really means something because you’ve earned it. As a motorcyclist I also found Tony able to translate riding skills to driving skills in a clear, logical way which really helped in the early lessons when I was struggling to master the controls. I found his rates to be more than reasonable considering the quality of his teaching. Some people may find they have to try lessons with several different instructors before they find the right one, but I honestly believe anyone who is given a first lesson by Tony won’t want to look elsewhere, especially those who may have had bad experiences in the past as I did. As a result of his expert instruction I passed both my theory and practical tests first time with good scores, the practical test completed one day before my birthday! I now feel confident whenever I get behind the wheel and enjoy driving, two things I didn’t think would happen as a result. In closing I’d like to say I can’t recommend Tony Ryan enough, and suggest anyone living in the Gosport/Fareham/Portsmouth area thinking about learning to drive book now because his schedule is already filling up for the end of this year and start of next. You won’t be disappointed because even if you found learning to drive quite challenging as I did because Tony will do everything he can to make it easier for you, and even works Saturdays which is handy for people like me who do 50 hour weeks Monday to Friday. I believe from what I've read every instructor on the books at Brake-Thru is of a high standard like this so you can book with confidence.

Fantastic experience: I was lucky to get garry as my instructor, and he was exactly the kind of person I needed to finally give me the confidence to go on and pass! I had previously had a few lessons with another instructor but I was always a fairly anxious learner, and so never felt that comfortable being in the driving seat. However, Garry is the kind of instructor that continuously pushes you to do your best every single time and isn't scared to tell you if your simply not doing good enough. He definitely won't allow you to go to test if you just arnt up to standard. And so your never going to be wasting stupid money on tests you just won't pass. he makes sure to always talk to you about where you are and what exactly you still need to work together on. If your a nervous learner he's also great because he pushes you to get over nerves and instead become confident with yourself on the road. He was on time every single lesson, and makes the effort to get to know you as a person. He would only turn on the radio if stuck in slow traffic and on a very low volume if that, but of course he would easily turn it off if you requested. As someone that took longer to learn to drive in general, he was always patient with me and took the time to get me there no matter how long it took! But finally I got there and I don't think I could have if it wasn't for him. Really great driving school and would reccomend them to anyone.

Negative experience: Looked for automatic lessons, and found Brake-Thru online. Started lessons last year Nov, and today after around 45-50 lessons was left in the rain halfway through the lesson by a screaming instructor. Reg was initially calm, but a couple of months ago when I tried to say we need to set a goal he got uncomfortably upset. Unfortunately I did not listen to the advise of friends and family to change instructor (they warned me he was just dragging it out, wanting more money frim the lessons). A couple of weeks ago after telling him I had booked my driving test he again started getting irritable and all worked-up during driving lessons. I have gradually lost all my confidence, and have gone home very upset and crying, even have felt very nervous snd anxious before the lessons. It all went pear-shaped today when again Reg was very irritable and on the edge from the start, and completely exploded starting screaming and shouting. I left walking, in the rain, very traumatised and upset. With lost confidence, test booked in for 2 weeks' time. Reg has not acted professionally at all, an instructor should have a calming effect on the learners not making them even more nervous. And unfortunately not a great deal of help from the Driving School either, just "sorry to hear that, good luck". I am very very disappointed to have spent lots of money and now have been left completely helpless. I definitely recommend to stay away from Brake-Thru if you are after automatic lessons (I can not comment on the rest).

Fantastic experience: Can't fault Brake-thru at all, from my initial enquiry to passing my test was a brilliant experience. I was taught by Dave, and his tutoring was second to none. Managed to fit me in around my schedule, was upfront and honest about my driving, boosted my confidence and I felt safe. Great conversation and laughs along the way too. This driving school isn't about fleecing you out of money, their aim is helping you get that pink license. Would thoroughly recommend Brake-thru, especially if you're lucky to be taught by Dave.

Fantastic experience: Before I had even sat behind the steering wheel of a car I was incredibly nervous. However, having had lessons with Tony Ryan at Brake-thru, I have been able to overcome the jitters and learn to drive at a very high standard. Negative experience: Wouldn't even give it one star but you have to. Last year Garry was my instructor, not only was he rude using his phone during lessons, throwing me in the deep end is a understatement making me drive to hayling island on my second lesson( bareing in mind never had any other lessons before ) to now of my knowledge I probably wasn't even driving the car as I didn't stall or make a mistake once just the steering comes to mind as I now no you have to do a lot more than what I was doing. It put me off driving and have only recently picked up the courage to try again and now I have a amazing instructor I've learnt more in 2 lessons then I did with Garry in 6 absolutely appalling don't no how he got where he is with his attitude.

Fantastic experience: I just wanted to say Steve Fellows is an amazing teacher. At 34, I started driving quite late, but that didn't really make a difference. He was very patient and very clear with his methods and instructions. Steve made me feel confident right from my very first lesson all the way through to my test, which I passed first time after just over 20 hours of lessons. He was very flexible with the times he was available for lessons. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn to drive in Portsmouth. Thanks Steve! :)

Fantastic experience: I passed my test first time, with 5 minor faults, which I'm over the moon about. Having Garry as an instructor is great as he is very patient, and honest at the same time and tells you all the areas you need to improve spot on. Brake-thru is the driving school to choose if you want to learn to drive, not just to pass a test.
