Our comment from DrivingSchoolsTOP.co.uk about Stella Motorcycle Training:

Stella Motorcycle Training is a motorcycle training center that offers a variety of training programs aimed at helping riders gain the necessary skills for the road. Many users have praised the instructors for their knowledge, experience, and patience during the training sessions. Kevin Dunn, in particular, has been highlighted as a fantastic instructor who creates a welcoming environment for both beginners and experienced riders alike.

Positive aspects mentioned by users include:

  • Highly knowledgeable and professional instructors.
  • Supportive training that focuses on safety and confidence building.
  • Positive experiences reported by customers who completed their CBT smoothly.
  • Friendly and accommodating staff that make the learning process enjoyable.
  • Ability to tailor training to individual needs, particularly beneficial for nervous riders.

However, some users have raised concerns regarding the training methods, particularly for complete novices. Criticism has focused on:

  • Lack of adequate training time for beginners, with some feeling left behind.
  • Instructors being perceived as impatient, particularly with those lacking prior experience.
  • Instances of poor customer service reported by several customers, leading to dissatisfaction.
  • Some users feel that the training does not align with the company's claims of being beginner-friendly.

Overall, while Stella Motorcycle Training has received a mix of feedback, many customers appreciate the knowledgeable instructors and the quality of training provided, especially for those who are already somewhat experienced. It's advisable for complete novices to consider their own comfort levels and prior experience before enrolling.

Fantastic experience: Over the past four years myself, my wife, my son, my daughter and a son in law have all gained our cbts with Stella. Kevin Dunn is a first class instructor with vast knowledge and experience. Much appreciated!!

Fantastic experience: Kev and Kev, thank you for both of you! Well experienced, professional instructors, they go through the whole process with you clearly, carefully, they make sure you understand everything and you're safe on the roads. Super friendly and helpful guys, if you have any questions, they're both happy to answer. Absolute the biggest cheerleaders out there! I had such a lovely day :)

Negative experience: do not use this company if you are a new rider, the instructor doesn't class this as training he sees it as a test. He would rather send you home and keep your money than educate and train youngsters. It's about time he retired and stopped making young riders feel useless or learned what the word training means

Fantastic experience: I would 100% recommend Stella motorcycle training. Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish! As a worried parent of a 16 year old boy who had no experience on a bike whatsoever, after a phone call with Stella she put my mind at ease and she gave my son and I all the information needed to complete the training course. My son was nervous on the day however the instructor was very friendly, kind, respectful and patient with him, which settled my son to be able to complete the course. Reading some of the reviews on here is very disappointing and not the experience we had. The instructors can only train people so much, you have to know the basics of the highway code before the day of the course, which is advised when booking the course and also in the confirmation email once booked. Plus the instructors have to know you are safe to be able to ride on the road on your own. Lastly I would like to say thank you Stella and the team for doing a great job!

Negative experience: Did a CBT with Stella a few years ago now. This was my third CBT (as my previous had expired), the previous two I did with other companies and Stella was by far the worst experience. I agree with a lot of the other reviews in that I don't recommend this place for brand new riders. The proctor was very brash and unprofessional towards the more inexperienced riders and spent an awful lot of time taking smoke breaks and talking about his personal life. The course was about 2 hours longer than CBT courses taken with other schools, mainly due to this. At the end of the day it got the job done and was passed but it didn't feel very professional. I've seen minimum wage 17 year old cashiers at Aldi do their job better than this bloke.

Fantastic experience: Had a brilliant day at Stella, Kev was most informative and a great instructor I would confidently recommend anyone to use their services. Even left my helmet and gloves at the test centre and Kev arranged for me to collect them outside of his work hours, Thank you very much Kev!

Fantastic experience: Don't believe the negative reviews, (you don't to hear Kevin's side of the story) Mr Kevin Dunn is 100% focused on ensuring that everyone that comes to him is going to be safe on the road. He's passionate about his love of motorcycling and instructing people of all levels. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend his training school.

Fantastic experience: Very experienced tutors. They will only pass confident road ready riders, which in my opinion means unless your safe to ride in traffic you at least will not end up injured or worse.

Negative experience: Do not use this company absolute disgrace poor training, instructor constantly smoking & acknowledged the learners as mate. Spoke to a Guy called Kev pointless!! Not a brain cell between his ears. Look at using other training facilities before this money making scam of a company.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic training today with Kev . He was honest and to the point and really patient with me which helped me loads. I was a little bit nervous but with the right guidance and support today went really well. Thank you so much for helping me and keeping me safe on the roads . Felt I needed to clarify a few things as there's so many negative reviews . The trainers will send you away if they do not feel you will be confident or safe on the Roads . This is explained first thing in the briefing when you arrive . The day is composed of saftey , brush up on hazard and perception (so make sure you know the basic signs and road awareness stuff) , and basic managing a scooter or geared bike. If they don't think you are suited for a geared bike they will put you on a scooter yo try and get you to pass. If your unable to do the basic maneuvers safely in the grounds they will not be able to take you on the roads and therefore request you come back for further training - all of which is clearly stated in the terms and conditions. After doing a quick highway code test (basic signs and basic right of ways) and doing some control rides around the lot you then do a couple of hours on the road (starting with very quiet lanes and progressing to traffic lights and round abouts) to ensure you are safe and confident on positioning and stopping and pulling away, you then will have completed the CBT . I see a lot of comments saying it's a scam or their person who was booked in needs further training or was sent home. Please know from being there on a day someone was sent home for more training that everything possible was done to support and guide that person into getting to a point where they could pass it just wasn't possible for one session and Kev was genuine. So if you get some basic high way code in you, wear the suggested kit , and be prepared that some people need a little extra training, you will be good to go ! Sophie

Negative experience: Took my 16 year old son here about a month ago for his cbt. Dropped him off 8.30. To have to pick him up few hours later. Now I’m my eyes cbt is training. They failed to train my son. Coming out with he didn’t know signs etc. that’s why he’s booked in for the day training. Waste of £180 I wouldn’t even bother with this cbt training company the bloke didn’t really train my son. Just took the money and basically said see you again. Don’t think so. Save ur self the £180 and book else where.

Negative experience: Absolutely useless. I phoned to enquire about training for my full motorcycle licence, as clearly advertised and described in great detail on their website. I spoke to a lady who seemed incredulous at what I was asking. She informed me they "only offer CBT". I politely asked her if she could recommend any other company for the full licence training, and her response was: "look on the internet".

Negative experience: A complete scam, booked a CBT for my daughter, compulsory basic training. My daughter recieved 30 minutes on a bike whilst being spoke down too and told she shouldn't be left handed. Further training was refused after paying the £180 and my daughter was told to go home. On arrival of picking up my daughter, I approached the instructor, who was unprofessional and only willing to help once I had booked again and paid a further £180. Happy to take payment but not happy to provide the relevant training. All youngsters avoid, book elsewhere. If I could zero stars I would. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Jacob W 2 years ago

Positive experience: Excellent trainers but I worry that this may be some sort of scam or something. Many people i know have done this and failed due to lack of balance or confidence. I paid for 8 - 4 for training however the instructors never used the full time and spent a large portion chatting away. Would not recommend to a new motorcyclist they will fail you in an instance. If you are a returning driver looking to redo a cbt you should be fine.

Fantastic experience: Great place to get your CBT, Kev is a very experienced trainer with over 45 years of riding. Made sure to focus on safety and provided coaching if needed. I had great fun also, I'm even more enthusiastic about getting a bike now! Also I want to add, I was/still am a beginner, he took that into consideration and made sure we were good enough to go out on the road.

Neil 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: What a great experience. I went to Stella for a CBT as a complete novice and I honestly couldn't fault any aspect of the day. Kev is a great trainer, very easy to listen to and puts in plenty of effort to make sure everyone on the course does well. We all passed, and he even adapted the CBT obstacles to be in line with the Mod 1 test so I could have a try at that too. I couldn't have asked for a better day. I can only guess that the unhappy reviews here come from people who can't take criticism or are too entitled to listen! If you're not safe you won't get your CBT, but in my mind that's a good thing. It's their job to stop new riders from putting themselves in danger, and Kev did that very well.

Ene Chan 3 years ago

Negative experience: Kevin’s attitude can be summed up with- Novices shouldn’t make mistakes, and if you can’t get the grasp quick enough? Go home. Stay away from this training company if you’re a beginner.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusting way to run a business. After paying for TRAINING was told if don't get it after 10 mins I would be screwed. After 1 hour and 30 mins of a day that should of been about 7 hrs was told to just go home. Wasn't given any help advice or guidance. Was 3 of us the other 2 had experience but I had none so why put us together?? He as an instructor is Only allowed to take 2 ppl out on the road so because I have little confidence and experience I got told to leave. No refund or anything. Please if you never listen to another review I pray u listen to this one and avoid Stella's motorcycle training at all costs. Meant to be training clue is in their company name unfortunately they offer none. So disgusted by this company I will be involving trading standards. Avoid avoid avoid.

Fantastic experience: I did my CBT at Stella Motorcycle back in September 2022 they was very critical with weather you are safe or not to ride a motorcycle which in my eyes is very important after riding now for six months and i am very thank full for the training and advise i received on my CBT it has saved my neck a few times already , I did my CBT with four other pupils and only two of us passed. At the time i felt it was a bit harsh failing the other two pupils but now after being on the road for just six months i can really respect the instructors decision and would recommend them every time .

Negative experience: Shocking customer service, never spoken to such rude staff! Out to steal your hard earned money at any given opportunity! Stay well away from this company!

Allie Rowbs 3 years ago

Negative experience: If I could give this Company zero stars, I would. Absolutely shocking treatment of my son who paid £162 of his hard earned money for a CBT course, advertised as being "for a complete novice". His confirmation email stated that the course would run from 8am until 4pm. By 9.50am, my son was messaging me to say that after just 45 minutes on a moped (which towards the end of that short time, he was already gaining confidence and doing figure of 8's and u turns in the car park), the instructor was telling him that he needed private lessons and should go home as he was "unsuitable to take on the roads". He was spoken to in a derogatory manner, humiliated in front of the other participant (who, incidentally, was an experienced older man, riding his own bike and simply doing a CBT refresher) and even told he needed to "wise up on the highway code"...without having been asked a single question about it or indeed riding on a road! When my husband telephoned Stella MCT to query this, he was given mouthfuls of abuse and told that our son is a liar. I emailed the business requesting a full refund but have so far been ignored. Please read other reviews from the parents of young people...you will see that this is a common story. I will be reporting these con artists to every relevant organisation as they cannot continue to get away with this. Avoid like the plague.

Negative experience: I had the worst experience ever here, didn't even receive my CBT. Was first of all pulled aside and asked if I can ride a bicycle, despite having arrived on my bicycle. Then was asked multiple times why I didn't want to get a car instead. Then, was given a moped with a broken stand and a gaffa taped oil gauge. I asked what I had not been given the geared bike I had asked to use as others in my group had been given them, and the response was "You know how boys are, they're better at these types of things". I was then sent home with no CBT before going on the road portion of the test with no reason as to what I needed to practice more or learn about before reattempting when I asked. Really disappointed as advertised for complete beginners and I had studied hard prior. I also asked if I could go to the toilet during a break and the said I could wee on the grass behind the shed.

Negative experience: I was bullied by one of the instructors when I was 17 years old doing my CBT with these clowns. Wish I could remember his name! the bullying became so bad that day that he got sent home by another instructor who joined us later that day and found him shouting at me on the side of the road saying I have to pay him £120 before the end of the day because the lights changed to orange e as I was half way though... At the beginning of the day he made a joke and everyone was aloud to laugh but me! I laughed with everyone at his first joke and he came right up into my face and just stared at with a angry look on his face. Only the others who was all women by the way was aloud to laugh. Massive bully! I was just a kid and hadn't ever come into any sort of situation like that before, still to this day 12 years later iv never met anyone as odd as him.

Negative experience: It speaks volumes about Kevin Dunn when faced with very poor reviews and criticism he claims they are bogus. I have never written a bad review about any business before, but the way Kevin Dunn has treated 16-17 year olds who have no experience on a moped doing their cbt must be highlighted. I will only state facts that I can back up, if anyone wants to check if this is bogus review please contact me. I used to work as a part time cbt instructor at Hardwicke Royal British Legion for Acer motorcycle training. Kevin claims you can’t teach someone how to balance on a bike. If after 30 minutes Kevin decides your balance is not good enough you will be sent home and Kevin will keep your £160.00. I instructed several novice riders who had never ridden a bicycle or moped, within an hour every novice rider had their feet up and was able to proceed with their cbt. The evening before my daughter did her cbt with Stella motorcycle training, she had practiced pushing the moped around, putting the bike on and off the stand and rode her moped feet up around a very bumpy orchard for over half an hour. Within half an hour of practical training Kevin decided her balance wasn’t good enough and sent her home keeping her £160.00. Stella motorcycle training are hopefully good if you are not a novice biker, but if you have limited experience please don’t expect Kevin to give BASIC training.

Negative experience: I sent my 16yo son to do his CBT today with this company (Stella motorcycle training) and I can confirm all these bad reviews are true I can not believe what this company have put my son through he travelled 40miles to do a full days CBT training and ended up getting sent home after 30/45 mins of actual training the instructor set him up to fail before he even started he constantly told my son he was going to fail and left him in a freezing cold car park to wait for a hour then everything he told my son to do my son did then the instructor would say he wasn’t aloud to do that and then the instructor told my brother who took my son to his CBT training that my son would more than likely fail because he don’t know his high way code and that he should ride a bicycle around town to learn his high way code and this was before my son even started any training this morning then told my son if he booked again he would pass him it seems to me trading standards needs to do a investigation on this company as the way young people are treated is terrible I am going to be ringing trading standards myself in the morning and I advise everyone els to do the same as stella motorcycle training company must be seriously looked in to

Fantastic experience: Stellar. Wise words to help rider stay safe. The dude has the wisdom passed down from a military dispatch riding trainer mother and she gave up riding aged 86 This is my third cbt and by far the best for the quality of instruction and help. Catch 'em while you can. You won't be disappointed.

Julie Tunstall 4 years ago

Negative experience: Very disappointing experience, I wish I had read the reviews before booking. As others have noted, this is not a place to send a beginner, even thou that is what they are advertising. When I rang to request feedback as to why a pupil had failed, I was told ‘he had absolutely no idea about the highway code’. I know this is untrue as I have seen how hard he had been studying it. When I pointed this out to him, I was made to feel that I was complaining as I was ‘bitter’ he had not passed. I said that I just wanted feedback as to how they can justify charging £162, which took months for a hard working 16 year old to save and had been chucked down the drain. He then changed his story to him being sent home as he ‘did not have knowledge of what to do in certain scenarios’ - he’s 16 with no road experience, of course he wouldn’t know what to do, hence the need to come to a company offering training…?? When I asked why they did not have enough bikes for all the learners and it was lucky that he had failed as it would save him having to wait 2 hours (alone) for his turn at the road test he said he did not like what I was suggesting and got very irate. I have informed trading standards and I urge others to do the same. This company needs their standards and pass rates looking into. I have never left a review before but feel so strongly about what happened, especially after speaking to senior instructor, that I feel I must warn others.

Lynne Wakefield 4 years ago

Negative experience: If you don't have any experience, I would avoid Stella Motorcycle training. You pay for a whole day and get a few hours then are told to go home instead of the instructor spending time 'training'. 2hrs were spent sat waiting for the moped to charge followed by very little instruction and then told to go home & practice on a push bike. The instructor was impatient and contradicted himself, he gave instructions, which were followed then you get told off for doing as he had asked. This really knocks your confidence, he was not willing to spend time with you so you can learn. The name clearly states TRAINING but I was told that I had misunderstood. What a waste of time & money and the effect on young riders wishing to learn is not acceptable. No one wants to pass if they are unsafe on the road but surely you pay for a full days training not a few hours of someone expecting you to know what you're doing. We tried to ask for more support & training but he had made up his mind and would not give us anymore support. Our feedback was taken as sours grapes, which it really is not, if we fail after a full day of positive help & support then fair enough. We will book elsewhere next time if we can build the confidence back up as you really should not be able to fail this course with the right instructor. If we had the other available instructor our day would have ended very differently. If you are a parent supporting a young rider please find a different patient and willing instructor.

Fantastic experience: Kevin and Sharon are fantastic and definitely live up to the recommendation given by one of there customers. Kevin is the best instructor I have ever had calm and reassuring. We had someone who had not ridden a bike before and Kevin had him riding in 10 minutes. Book with confidence and enjoy your day. I was nervous but Kevin made the CBT a joy rather than something to be worried about and feared. I really enjoyed my CBT I hope you enjoy yours with Stella Motorcycle training.

Severn Sun 4 years ago

Negative experience: As another reviewer has noted, this is not the place for complete novices. If you have never ridden before go to a provider for lessons and then take the CBT. I had only ridden once in my life over thirty years ago on a trial bike so naturally was a little wobbly to begin with. I too kept being told, ‘it is your balance’. No allowance was made for the fact I had never ridden a scooter before, didn’t know how to turn/the capacity of the turning circle, etc. Only ‘balance’ was considered as opposed to lack of technique/knowledge and/experience. I could tell after the first five minutes that no matter how well I subsequently performed the Instructor had already made his mind up not to let me complete the day. Just like the other reviewer I was told to go home as the instructor needed to concentrate on the two more experienced riders or should I say more ‘balanced’. If you already know how to ride this course would be fun and informative. If you don’t you will be wasting your time and money. Find a provider that offers lessons and assessment before CBT. I had asked about lessons and was told I wouldn’t need any . . . This was evidently not true. I am quite happy to take some lessons, I feel in this case I was given a false impression. I was also told to go home and get some hours in on a push bike to improve my balance as the instructor tells 4/5 people per week (his words) when I feel what I needed was a few hours lessons on an actual scooter.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely fabulous and highly recommended! Two weeks ago, I had an awful experience with another local instructor that left my confidence levels at rock bottom. However, having had a chat with Sharon & Kev I decided to give the CBT another go. Within no time at all Kev had me riding around the training ground and yesterday I completed the CBT. Kev’s approach is calm and reassuring whist maintaining a superb level of professionalism. Nothing was too much trouble and any niggling nerves were soon steadied. My heartfelt thanks to the two Kev’s and Sharon. Be warned I will be back to take the MOD 1 & 2!

Fantastic experience: I want to thank Stella MCT for their patience and knowledge in helping me get my full motorcycle license. I have done every part of my journey to motorcycle freedom with them from my CBT to my Direct Access course. At each stage of the process Stella have been very helpful, professional and friendly. On the parts I found more difficult Kev simplified the process and built me up core skill by core skill till the part I struggled on was a habit. One of the best parts of the training was that I was taught the reasons why we have to do something not just how to do it. Everything that Stella did had safety in mind and I left 100% through the process. On the test days I got quite nervous and Kev’s words of advice helped me focus to get the job done on my first try. Thank you all at Stella. It has been a pleasure. Note: I took CBT and Direct Access with Stella.

Negative experience: Totally disappointed! DO NOT USE unless you have experience. My son was a complete novice but as it claims on the website "we take you from your first tentative steps with your CBT". This is complete misadvertising unless you are lucky enough to have others in your group who are novices too. I now have a son who has totally been put off bikes and made to feel like a complete failure! They said that my sons problem was his balance. I accept that. But they also said they couldn't give him the full days training that I paid for because they had to move on for the other people there, that they only had 6 hours and the others needed to finish. If at that point they said go home and practice and we will give you the full days training on another date I would have not been so unhappy. But no! After just 2 hours you sent him home because he couldn't keep up. They said that he was lucky that everyone there was more able because they got things quicker which meant they could have some time with him. He said that he was told what to do and if he didn't get it he was left to practice with someone who didnt seem like he even wanted to be there and then when he got bored was left on his own. In my opinion if you could book people in based on their ability all pupils would be at the same level and then they could move on together. Not be sent home so the others could complete the course. They made my son son feel a failure on a course that you should not be able to fail. Again, if he had had a full days training or at least offered another after practicing, I would have accepted it. But no. 2 hours was all he recieved from them. And then told to come back at our expense! Unacceptable! It does not say on the website that you have to study the highway code until after you purchase the training. This should be made clear before. My son studied it but that was still not good enough. As they used this as another excuse why he would fail (a course you can't fail). He was told not enough road experience. How can you get road experience without a CBT? They said themselves that all the others there had ridden a bike before. I cannot stress enough the importance of differentiation when booking. You claim on your website that you take people from their "first tentative steps" it should say "but only if you've ridden before or are lucky enough to be in a group of the same ability!" because other than that you will be sent home if you can't keep up. As I keep saying if he'd recieved the full day training and then failed I would have accepted it but 2 hours for £95 is just unnacceptable. I am totally disappointed with this service! It is certainly NOT value for your money!
