Fantastic experience: So two of us attended the CBT training on a horrible wet grey day, one with some experience of riding, one with none. Met up with Paul Reynolds our trainer, who made what could have been a miserable experience into one which was informative, engaging and enjoyable. Paul made sure we could do everything needed to control the bikes before taking us out on the roads, and made sure we were as safe as could be throughout the day. His insights and experience into safety equipment and safe riding was invaluable, making this course and the company one I would recommend for new (and even old!) riders.

Fantastic experience: I recently completed my CBT in August with Paul Penfold as my trainer, he was great, very knowledgable and professional getting me through this part of my licence with ease. I then completed my Mod1 & Mod2 within 3 days thanks to the professionalism and knowledge of John. John was an excellent instructor with masses of knowledge and helpful tips to get me through my full licence within 3 days. Lisa was extremely helpful too, booking my training and finding me a last minute slot for my Mid2, as I had been and bought my new bike and was very keen to get on it and play, she went above and beyond getting me a slot for my test the day after passing my Mod1. Huge thanks to all you guys/girls at A1, I would and will happily recommend you to any and all people I know that are looking to get into 2 wheels. Fantastic experience: I have completed my whole bike journey through them since cbt to just having done a2 licence where I had John and would highly recommend them if going for your bike licence. Passed first time both times thanks to their knowledge of the tests and riding.

Fantastic experience: Where do I start with my journey through the DAS course to obtain my Cat A licence. I met John from A1 Motor Bike Training at Basildon DVSA test centre. I had previously booked a DAS course with another training school in Chelmsford in which I terminated my training with them. I booked my module 2 training & test with John at A1 Motor Bike Training. What a difference this made, John is a great guy with the patients of a saint. Very calm and polite, not a regimental bully in stars & stripes like another well known outfit I had previously booked with. John took the time to attend to my needs & nothing was too much effort for him. The training I received from John has to be the best, John just has that magic touch where you feel a valued customer. The training bikes are almost brand new Triumph Trident bikes and are superior. Needless to say I past my Module 2 first time. I would recommend A1 Motor Bike training for anybody to start their journey. You won't find a better instructor than John who values his students & offers that personal touch. I hope to stay in touch with John who is always there to help. My best tip would be for anybody looking to start the journey of training for their full bike licence is to beware of certain other training schools around the Chelmsford / Colchester areas who may have fancy websites but offer sub standard training in a regiment fashion. My advice, call A1 Motor Bike Training you can't go wrong. Highly recommended if you want quality tuition with that personal service.

Fantastic experience: I undertook a DAS course with another well known training provider in Mid Essex and did not have a good experience at all! I met John from A1 at the Basildon test centre having failed my MOD 1 test. Although John wasn’t my instructor at the time he offered to buy me a cup of tea. I immediately took a liking to John and knew that I would rebook my MOD1 test with A1. On the day of my test, John gave me a couple of hours tuition included in the price which was incredibly reasonable. The student Triumph bikes are lovely, new and very easy to ride. John was very calm and clear with his instructions and I felt at ease the entire time. Both me and the other student passed our MOD1 test and you could just tell that John was very proud, in fact, he gave myself and the other student a hug! If you are looking for a riding school where you are treated as an individual, where the instructors want you to pass, look no further. They are a family run business which really stands out for all the right reasons! Needless to say I have booked my MOD2 test with them!! If only I had originally booked with A1 in Canvey Island!!

Fantastic experience: I did my CBT through A1 last Saturday and was very pleased with the experience. John made the day very fun and laid back but still ensuring that all the important information was included throughout the day. The approach took some pre course nerves away which meant I could ride with more confidence. I will definitely be returning there to do my A2 license in the near future.

Fantastic experience: I cant express how grateful I am for John getting me my big bike licence. I went from not sitting on a motorbike for 12 years, not owning a 125 or anything, hopping straight on him 660cc Triumph Trident for a 4 day course and passing! I've wanted to take my bike test for well over 20 years and this was truly a dream come true. I had had a bit of a shakey couple of years with my mental health and really wanted to do something just for me. Also massive shout out to Lisa (the brains of the outfit, and no offence John, definitely the beauty) who manages to conjure up test slots out of thin air in the middle of an examiner strike, in my case a sunny bank holiday monday! I will never forget John and all he has done for me, best decision I made choosing A1

Fantastic experience: Absolutely brilliant training from these guys. Felt quite nervous before booking my DAS but meeting John on the first day put my mind at rest. John is very patient and provides clear training and makes you feel at ease and I passed all my tests first time. Lisa was also a delight to deal with, always keeps you in the loop and does the best to fit you in for training. 12/10 definitely recommend

Negative experience: Terrible experience I know how to ride on the roads your junction made with silly combs is inadequate I suggest a different driving instructor to anyone else looking to go to this company, absolute joke.

Fantastic experience: I was recommended A1 by a friend who passed DAS 1st time, all I can say if you do find a bad review ignore it! Everyone at A1 is brilliant from CBT- module 2 and passing. John is a credit to himself and puts so much effort into getting his students to pass first time, Lisa is brilliant and flexible in booking course dates and couldn't be more helpful if she tried. I passed first time by listening to John's expert advice if you do this you'll pass. Excellent service can not fault the experience.

Negative experience: Took boyfriend over to do this test we have been with this company for four time for test and it has been ok .but this time not at all he had my boyfriend in all that heat at 38 fe riding the bike l had not be told that it would be an eight hour test so l had to Walt 8 hours in the heat this has not been like this be-for at all the men that took him for test was not good at all l would not go with this company again and do not advise anybody to book with this company as there are no good what’s so

Fantastic experience: I had a great day out training today with Paul Reynolds, it went really quickly and I passed! Whilst admittedly I'm not the fastest learner, Paul really spent time with me going over (and over) some of the things I was struggling with such as gear changing and clutch control. He made me feel at ease and was right there with me on the roads keeping us safe. I feel so much more confident after my first day of riding. Couldn't have asked for a better instructor. Fantastic experience: recently obtained by CBT with Paul at A1 and recommend them very highly, despite having to postpone the road riding portion of the CBT due to traffic (bridge to canvey island closed due to a tanker fire causing havoc), they arranged for me to come back a couple of days later in the evening. Pauls clear instructions and tuition meant I was comfortable and safe despite having no prior experience on a bike. Can't wait to continue my DAS journey with A1!

Fantastic experience: Started my riding with these guys in March this year 2022 and completed my CBT. Paul was calm and knowledgeable and understanding. Moved onto my MOD 1 and with John’s knowledge and teaching style again relaxed and calm I passed my MOD1 first time in May 2022. MOD 2 was booked for the 6th of June at 8am. Again with Johns knowledge of the test routes and his teaching style even in the atrocious weather we encountered today I passed with A1. Fantastic experience: I’ve just completed my CBT with Paul (Canvey). It was an excellent day and the tutoring was to a very high standard. I felt very safe and comfortable, and it was a lot of fun. I will definitely be doing my A2 licence with A1 motorcycle training.

Fantastic experience: Starting out with very little bike riding experience, I took my CBT and full DAS training at A1 Motorbike Training and cannot praise them highly enough. Lisa was great at arranging courses and tests around my available times. John is an absolutely brilliant instructor. He is highly experienced and very knowledgeable and has a gift for teaching. He is great at spotting your weak points and correcting them with thorough practice alongside explanations. John is a tremendous story teller and excels at using real-life examples of motorbike incidents to illustrate the importance of nailing down the right motorcycle habits and skills. He loves to crack jokes to help keep you calm as well as making the training very enjoyable. John is a genuinely lovely fellow, and it was clear throughout that he cares about his students, wants them to do well and is delighted when they pass. To cap it all, for Modules 1 and 2, the students rode superb brand-new Triumph Trident 660s. I am so happy that I chose A1 Motorbike Training and would recommend them to anyone interested in getting their big bike licence.

Fantastic experience: Booked a 3 day direct access course and passed Mod 1 and Mod 2 under John's tuition. Really enjoyed it and John really knows he stuff - trust his method and listen to his advice and he'll get you passed. Lisa was also an absolute pleasure to deal with when making the bookings. Fantastic experience: I really can’t recommend A1 enough, I’m blown away but how good John was with the training and how great Lisa is with sorting bookings around my work schedule. John got me through both my Mod 1 and Mod 2 with no faults and honestly made it so easy, after just 3 sessions I was in a really good place and breezed through my Mod 2. My dad passed with them as well. Next in line is my brother. Couldn’t recommend the enough.

Fantastic experience: I contacted John and Lisa as I was massively let down by another company. I am so glad they let me down else I would not have had the fortune of passing my mod 1 and 2 with A1. Lisa was very accommodating over the phone and despite me hassling her constantly for cancellations she never got fed up. Passed my Mod 1 with John first time. I failed my mod 2 first time due to my own error. Despite John reminding me throughout the training, I still broke the 2 second rule!! Passed second time with no faults. John was extremely helpful, nice guy to chat to in general and clearly a VERY good rider and an incredible instructor. Thanks John! Fantastic experience: I was recommended to A1 by a friend who had previously used them some time ago. Having had no experience whatsoever I was a little apprehensive but from Day 1 the introduction and subsequent training was superb and totally put my mind at rest. I completed and passed my CBT, Mod 1 & Mod 2 in quick succession thanks to their patience, support and good use of a cancellations list. Fantastic experience: Both myself and my son Dylan did our CBT's with John last week. What can I say about John? An ADi of cars myself, I strive to be half as good a trainer as John. He is such a passionate trainer it is unreal. What John doesn't know about motorcycle training isnt worth knowing. He is entertaining, informative, and an outstanding professional who really puts you at ease and fills you with confidence. After just 2 hours on the bike, I was sold and this has given my son the independence he really needed. I've since booked my Cat A theory and will be booking up to do my DAS as soon as I've passed that. John is a true professional and I wouldnt even consider any other trainer. Fantastic experience: Did my CBT training with John last weekend. He has a great teaching style that puts you at ease and he definitely doesn't take himself too seriously! Although I was doing my CBT, it felt like spending time with a good friend and learning all the while. John is great at keeping it casual but staying on-task with the day. At the end of the day John imparted a few pearls of wisdom with regard to bigger CC bikes, and it's safe to say that I'll be back for more! I'm looking forward to getting booked on for the DAS course just as soon as all tests and training are given the green light to resume. Update from the future: Went back later that year and did my DAS with John. Had a great time riding big bikes for the first time. I did mod1 and mod2 a couple of months apart due to lockdown restrictions etc. passed both first time. Which is a credit to the training. Been happily riding big bikes ever since. I encourage everyone I can to get into biking. And A1 training is a great firm to use to make that a reality.

John and Lisa who run this business are fantastic. very friendly and welcoming. Little John, which whom he refers himself as, was my instructor. He puts you at ease with banter, and has a great sense of humour, which makes the training so much more relaxing. I can't recommend this training school enough, A stars all the way.. Great company to train with.

Fantastic experience: Thank you to John and Lisa at A1 I passed my Mod 2 training today, all the trainers are really nice and helpful from doing my CBT to completing my MOD 2, John the owner and my trainer who took me through everything is a wealth of knowledge and made me fill at ease, I would recommend anyone to them I could not have asked for more, thanks again so much for everything

Fantastic experience: Had a top quality day. Never ridden a bike before so was very nervous. The instructors mad me feel at ease and we’re very knowledgable. Both very friendly instructors and make a great team. Plenty of banter which made everyone relax. John was brilliant and new how to lighten the mood. Kern was excellent and was very good at teaching you what to do. Lots of experience from both instructors. Don’t go anywhere else for motorbike training these guys are the best around!

Fantastic experience: What a fantastic team!!!I did CBT (my 3rd one) with them and both Johns were brilliant.Easy to talk to, great at explaining things and most of all really focused on each of us to make sure we got as much out of the training as possible.I had my Module 1 test (my second attempt) 2 days after my CBT. I booked it for the afternoon so I could get more training done. 'Little' John was amazing!!!As with CBT, he was making sure I got every maneuver right before we moved to the next one, explained everything in details,was happy to answer all the questions, and most of all, made the whole day fun!!!It did not feel like a day 'at school'.It was more like a catch up with friends,laughter, nice long bike rides yet I learnt so much that day!!And I passed the test!!!!I'm so happy!!!I still need to pass Module 2 of course but John incorporated lots of it in Module 1 training so I have an idea of what's expected of me.I am still to book the training and test but I know it will be with John!!!I couldn't have asked for a better trainer.His easy going approach, way of training, funny character and over 20 years of experience make the whole experience brilliant. Not to mention the results (passed tests!!!). And let's not forget about Lisa who was extremely helpful on the phone and gave great advise.She was very polite and professional and you could easily see that the company is not here for money but are still (after over 20 years!!!) very passionate about what they do and want people attending their trainings to succeed. I would highly recommend this company I and will use their services again for sure!!! Ewa
