Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic 5 day DAS training. Meet a great staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Terry teaches me for my exam mod 1 & mod 2 and enjoyed every single ride with him. Highly recommended to all . It was my best decision to take DAS with WPM . Thanks guys

Fantastic experience: West Pennine Motorcycle Training have been absolutely amazing and I can't praise Ben enough. As a complete novice I had never ridden a motorcycle before, but Ben was very patient and his calm manor really helped build my confidence. After 2 previous tasters sessions I went out on the road on my 3rd booking, I'm really glad I wasn't rushed, I feel I learned everything at a good pace from an expert with plenty of time to practice. As a female I wasn't sure if I'd feel uncomfortable with a load of guys but Ben treated us all the same and I had no need to worry at all. If you're thinking of booking your CBT then I wouldn't look anywhere else, don't be disappointed if you don't go on the road the first time, there is a lot to learn and they will only let you on the road if you're at a standard which is safe which is so reassuring as Blackburn is a super busy place. Yvonne was also very friendly and helpful with regular communication about what to bring etc. some safety equipment can be borrowed but I bought my own beforehand.

Negative experience: A friend of mine called up to book a CBT and were told they could only do a 'pre CBT'... considering this is compulsary BASIC training Im not sure this should even exist. No option was given to complete the full CBT despite being told on the phone this is possible. Factors such as not enough instructors or bikes to do so due to over booking meant this wouldnt have been possible. Little ride time and poor direction was also reported. Instructors also advised my friend that a HJC ece 22.05 helmet bought in 2024 with a 5 star SHARP rating would need replacing within a year due to being unsafe...

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

Can you let us know which day this was. If you are on a taster or pre cbt course you still have to complete all the off road training to a safe standard to go on road. Obviously your friend didn’t complete that or they would have been taken on road. If they have not ridden before it’s not unusual to require more than one session. No instructor recalls any conversation about helmets in the way described .

Positive experience: I recently attended a motorcycle training school and found the experience to be quite mixed. While there were some positive aspects, several key areas left much to be desired, resulting in my 3-star rating. Firstly, the instructors themselves were quite knowledgeable and skilled. Their expertise was evident, and they did their best to provide guidance and support. However, the high instructor-to-student ratio significantly hindered their ability to give personalized attention. With so many students per instructor, it often felt like we were left to figure things out on our own, which isn't ideal for a learning environment where safety and precision are paramount. The equipment provided was top-notch. Everything was new and well-maintained, making it perfect for learners. The bikes were in excellent condition, which definitely enhanced the learning experience from a technical standpoint. On the downside, the entire schedule was extremely rigid. Every activity was timed, and the actual time spent on the bikes felt quite restricted. This strict timing made it difficult to get comfortable and confident on the motorcycles, which is crucial for beginners. Another significant issue was the customer service. Yvonne, who handled most of the customer interactions, was notably unprofessional. Her demeanor was poor, and she seemed indifferent to the concerns of the students. This sentiment was echoed in other reviews I've read, suggesting a pattern rather than an isolated incident. Additionally, the communication from the school, including text messages, was unprofessional. Messages like "if absolutely necessary we will provide equipment" left a bad impression and didn't inspire confidence in their commitment to student support. Moreover, I attempted to cancel my booking by calling six days in advance, but was told a new policy required one week's notice. I was asked to call back a few days later, but when I did, no one seemed aware of my initial request. This lack of communication and the sudden enforcement of a previously unmentioned policy was quite frustrating and unprofessional. In my opinion, without prior experience riding a manual motorbike, you will only pass your CBT on your first try here if you use an automatic. This is backed by an instructor who mentioned that only approximately 1 in 100 people tend to pass on manuals without prior experience. This makes it crucial for potential students to consider their level of experience before enrolling. In summary, while the instructors were good and the equipment excellent, the high student-to-instructor ratio, rigid scheduling, unprofessional customer service, poor cancellation process, and challenges with manual bike training marred the overall experience. This school has potential, but there are significant areas needing improvement.

Fantastic experience: If I could give more than 5 I would. I booked in for my cbt for 6th August and they ring me on Saturday said they had cancellation and fitted me in next day and I passed my cbt. Very knowledgeable and sound. If anyone is thinking of booking for cbt or full bike license this is the place to go. Will highly recommend to anyone. Thank you for fitting me in so quickly and got me on road ready for when I pick my road legal surron bike up.

Fantastic experience: I big thank you to the instructor who put me through my CBT training today I used to ride back in the 80s I have learnt so much today about safety and how to ride a motorcycle properly the instructor was fantastic looking forward to taking my mod1 and 2 with this company highly recommended MR R BOOTH

Fantastic experience: Just passed my Mod 2 yesterday. I can’t thank West Pennine Motorcycle Training enough. 5+ Stars. I was originally with another motorcycle trainer and failed my Mod 2 test several times with silly mistakes (all my fault). I was almost ready to pack it all in but decided to give it one last try and emailed West Pennine Motorcycle Training not knowing what to expect. Within an hour I had a response and later that day I had training and my Mod 2 test booked in for 4 days time. With almost zero confidence left and nerves at their highest since my bike journey began, Dave took me out for my training and gave me good honest advice and guidance which got me the pass I needed. Training around the local area is invaluable and highly recommended.

Matt Ramsdale 1 year ago

Negative experience: Very torn between giving 2 or 3 stars. The training was great, having passed first time on Mod 1 & 2 with zero minors was only down to the trainers and the experience from Terry and Dave. Both did a brilliant job at what they do. Unfortunately having paid for a 4 day course, i only actually recieved 3 days training, with my 4th day being my mod 2 test and i was home by 1030am. While i understand they cannot control when the tests are booked by the DVSA and mine happened to be at 9am. I booked 4 days to further my knowledge and mainly safety on the road. Having only received the 3 days im unsure as to why i have been charged the 4. I did get in contact with West Pennine Training and they just proceeded to state that to book a single day and a test would of cost more than a 4th day. But it still doesnt explain why my '4 day course' was only 3 days long. They refused to refund me, having me actually only request a partial refund for day 4. So sadly no agreement was met and its left me happy to pass with flying colours, but a little bitter that my nearly £1000 course was cut short by nearly a quarter. Like i said, great teachers and i cannot thank them enough but not the best ending.

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

If you had done a three day you would have taken your mod1 a day earlier on day two not day three and may not have passed it. If you added all the parts of the course, MMA access time, test fees and just charged out at an hourly rate for bike hire and tuition only, charging two hours and test fee for your last day and mod2 test it would have cost £90 more than you paid. To quote Monty Python "there’s no pleasing some people’’.

Fantastic experience: Went for a 4 day DAS and passed both mod 1 and mod 2 first time, the staff are brilliant at what they do! Very helpful and good at calming nerves. The bikes are all well cared for and had no problems at all. Overall, I will definitely tell others to come here for their DAS, well worth the money!

Fantastic experience: Just thought I would Write a review to say how good West penine motorcycle training are, Spoke to Dave and explained what my goal was and what size bike I would like. He advised the intermediate course, having not been on a motorcycle for 28 years I was a little apprehensive to say the least. Started on the Saturday morning by Tuesday lunch time,I had passed everything except my main test Modular 2, passed this on Wednesday morning on a 650cc. So overall a busy 4 days plus the main road test with the examiner. Terry was my instructor through out who has a wealth of knowledge to share, follow his guidance and advice you will make the grade in very little time. All Terry's training routes lead back to the main test centre ready for lunch time, this is just at the side of the M65 darwin services. There you have plenty of food outlets along with Grub hub and Mc hub for any motorcycle equipment you may need. Big thanks to Terry and everyone at West penine Motorcycle training.

Fantastic experience: Used these guys for both my cbt back in April 2023 and full licence august 2023 which I passed first time. Really good no nonsense instructors that tell you what you’re doing wrong and what to change in order to pass. If you’re not prepared for a ‘slagging’ then you might think they’re being harsh/brutal but at the end of the day they want you to pass and you need to listen and act on what they’re telling you.

Fantastic experience: Great training centre in my opinion - had Jake for my CBT, Malcom for most of my 500cc/650cc lessons, Terry for one and Dave for half of one lesson - all great instructors with different teaching styles, which are each useful to experience, given that they pick up on and emphasise different things. Took me the CBT + 5 lessons before attempting Mod 1 + an extra lesson before Mod 2 - both passed first time round with a couple minors overall. All tests, including theory, booked via Pennine, which included bike hire for the tests. I had lessons every now and then, rather than doing intensive course, which worked out well for my working schedule / annual leave. Really great model of teaching and preparation for the tests, especially for Mod 1, where they hire the Mod 1 test site each lesson for practice, also doing you mock tests. On the morning of the tests, they also give you chance to “warm up” at their test centre (round cones, practice U turns etc.) and you drive over there on the bikes, so gives you another 10 minutes or so to get used to the bike again. Basic toilet facilities and refreshments available on site, also near to local shops for lunches if needed. Couple times we went to services for lunch near the Blackburn Test Centre. Overall would definitely recommend West Pennine - thanks to Dave, Malcolm, Terry and Jake for getting me through the Direct Access first time! Special thanks to Yvonne for booking me into the lessons and tests as well.

Positive experience: Took my CBT as my old one was due to expire, stared at 9.00 with 2 others, one had already had a taster session previously and the other was new. It got to 1230 and the other 2 was told to come back and pay for another day, which I thought was a bit unfair as they had booked what I thought full day CBT. I did notice the when I was signing for my CBT certificate there was none given out in 2 days previous. It seems like alot of money and little time spent with people that could be helped more to pass sooner on the day. I would look elsewhere for my others tests personally.

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

Just to be clear if someone doesn’t complete CBT a reduced rate is charged to reflect any remaining time when they come back. The instructor also needs to have time remaining to complete your two hour road run.

Positive experience: Did my CBT on Saturday, weather wasn’t ideal. However the day went well, got a decent grasp on how to handle a geared bike. Only criticism I have is that the instructor likes to shout over the radio when the learner might be doing something wrong which doesn’t help when someone may be under pressure. I was refused my CBT as I was turning a bit too wide round corners, and I stalled once at a roundabout I personally don’t feel as though I should of been refused my CBT for that as I had good control of the bike through the duration of my time on the road. They suggest that I pay another £120 to book in again. I’d probably try somewhere else next time round if I feel like I’d want to give it another go.

Fantastic experience: Did my CBT 2 weeks ago followed by the 4 day DAS training and passed my Mod 2 today. Big thank you for Malcolm for the 1 on 1 tutoring on Saturday thanks to another lad forgetting to turn up which I saw as a profit for me. Thanks Dave for your afternoon tutoring and giving me some well needed pointers. Biggest thanks to Terry who is an absolute legend. Great approach. Good to give you praise but also a great way of letting you know if you have messed up so you remember for next time. If your thinking of booking just get it done. Its the best decision I've made.

Fantastic experience: Excellent riding school. I went from being extremely nervous with poor balance on the CBT training to being more confident and passing the full DAS. Jake worked wonders on the CBT explaining everything and supervising my practice ensuring everything was ok before I went on the road. I was then supervised by Dave who was extremely calm yet very firm … sometimes telling you mistakes that needed to be ironed out.. the level of skill required to pass the DAS eventually sunk in! Terry is also a top bloke who worked with me on the module 1 skills- he’s a top bloke with an amazing sense of humour! Thanks guys you are really a great team. I can now go out and enjoy my riding and build on the knowledge you have passed on..

Fantastic experience: I passed my motorbike test recently with west pennine (A2) I hadn’t ridden a motorbike for 36 years prior to starting my 6 day course. I did my CBT on a 125 with Ben, morning spent practicing low speed manoeuvres at the school and afternoon out on the road. Then progressed onto the next stage of training on a 500cc, out on the roads with Terry. The training and instruction was excellent. Both instructors were very knowledgeable in all aspects of their craft. The training was paced perfectly and I went from being a very rusty rider who’d ridden 125’s decades earlier, to walking away with a pass certificate by the end of the course. A big thank you to all at West Pennine and I would thoroughly recommend them.

D Cocker 2 years ago

Negative experience: I found Pennine Motorcycle training to be unprofessional and they were looking to push me into taking extra lessons that was not required. I had Booked a 4 day course. however I feel that I did not receive adequate bike time for the money I had paid. Also I feel that because I was not willing to pay for extra lessons my training was held back. Dave (the owner) was very abrupt and even made me drive on my own car to the test centre for my mod 2 test. Dave said it was because I wasn't ready. Also i was only given 30mins training on the bigger 650cc bike in there compund prior to the Mod 1. In my experience the 4 day course is not 4 full days. I was only given one road ride on the 650cc bike and that was on the way to my Mod 2 test. Dave Made out that I would fail both and needed extra training however I passed both first time. I have 30 years experience on Trials and Enduro bikes. Which he said he couldn't tell at all . The other instructors are very helpful however though and work extremely hard as there are lots of trainee's and there time is shared between trainee's. In my experience its not much 1 to 1 training and a lot of standing about Also not full 4 days given either. To me when I paid for a 4 day course that should be 4 full days. If the Tests are early am surely that only uses up half a day of the course. I Passed with 1 minor however Dave has replied that I had 8 minors. (Total Lie) Terry & Jake are very good instructors and work extremely hard. My main issues was with the poor attitude given by Dave the owner and the lack of road time given for a 4 day course and not being given the full 4 days training. Possibly I should of asked the format prior to booking the course with them.

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

Hi David Sorry you weren't happy with all of your training. Firstly your standard of riding in terms of control considering you claimed trails and motorcross riding was very poor on CBT day, this mean't you spent more time on the smaller bikes than would normally be expected on a prior experienced rider course. Secondly you insisted on as late as possible mod1 test on the mod1 test day to maximise your mod1 training before test (obviously even you realised you where short on time). In order to accommodate this a test out of area was sourced for you and an instructor allocated one to one to sort you out, with all the morning being dedicated to mod1 training. Yes this meant you had to drive to the test centre but this meant we could get you back sooner and continue training after the mod1 test. When you got back an instructor was ready to continue training you on mod2 items but to quote you 'I already know all that' and you went off when we where ready to continue, the loss of this time was down to you. Thirdly on the mod2 test you scraped through with 8 minors out of a maximum 10. At all times correct advice was given ie you were short of time and constantly you tried to force the school to stretch the course beyond what you had paid for. The mod2 test result, whilst its good you passed, shows that you were border line and that our advice was correct. regards David

Fantastic experience: Brilliant Motorbike School. I booked onto a 5 day course from Friday through to Tuesday. This involved my CBT, MOD1 and MOD2 exams for my A2 Licence (due to being 22). Having never ridden before, the CBT was conducted on the first day with MOD1 on the Monday and MOD2 on the Tuesday. I passed all the tests first time with only 3 minors in total. (I do have a car driving licence). They are all great instructors and prepared you thoroughly for the tests with mock tests on their own yard and at the test centre followed by lots of on road riding. Clear and helpful throughout, simply listen to what they say and you'll have no dramas. I can't recommend them enough!

Fantastic experience: If your looking for an honest review on west pennine, look no further, here it is! Just completed a 5 day course with west pennine. Booked initially online and was then contacted by Yvonne who completed the booking process after a few more details were provided. Its was agreed the 5 day course would probably fulfill my needs (direct access). The course included my theroey test, CBT, training for my DAS course, my module 1 test and module 2 test and was all arranged for me by Yvonne without any dramas. (Not much previous riding experience and the experience I had was 50cc dirt bike 20 years ago). Yvonne provided me with links to training materials for the theory test and I passed my theory first time. I was contacted the day before my course to give full details of what to expect. I initally paid a deposit and the full balance was due on the first day. Equipment and bikes are provided for you to use if you wish or you can supply your own which I did (equipment). I was met first day by Jake. Spent the full day with him on my CBT with another lad who was also doing the same 5 day DAS course as me. Jake was great, patient, great teacher and very knowledgeable. CBT certificate first day. CBT can take longer than a day if you arent deemed as competant. It was then onto DAS training. Second day we were met by Terry. Again, very knowledgeable, heaps of experience, loads of time for you, plenty of patience and a genuinely nice guy with lots of funny stories. We were lucky as we got to spend the rest of the course as a group of 3. It was brilliant having the same instructor throughout as it was easy to map our progress. We worked our way up through bike sizes from 125cc to 500cc up to the 650cc DAS bikes. We practiced mod 1 on thier purpose built site and we also got to do a practice run on the actual DVSA site, albeit on the 125cc not the 650cc. We rode and practiced the test routes time after time and my confidence grew. Terrys instruction was fantastic as was his knowledge and wealth of riding experience. I met the boss Dave on my 3rd day. He spent an hour with both myself and the other lad, just making sure we were up to scratch before our mods 1's on the 4th day. Didnt have much time with Dave but again he was very polite. He strikes me as he's the kind of guy who calls a spade a spade and doesn't suffer fools glady! Reviews that say instructors had no enthusiams and love of riding is rubbish! Passed mod 1 on day 4 with a clean sheet! Couple of quick test runs on the 5th day which was the morning of my mod 2 test. Passed mod 2 with 1 minor (which was for not going fast enough which ill take any day)! Being a firefighter Ive seen what happens when it goes horribly wrong and it aint pretty. Maybe I'm over cautious, but Id rather be deemed over cautious than over confident! I Really enjoyed my time at West Pennine Motorcycle training. I spent some time reading thier reviews and other schools reviews before I settled on them as my school of choice. I have only good things to say. My experience was very positive. All you need to remember is that it isnt a guaranteed pass and that the courses may need to be extended if you cant pick it up quick enough. That isnt thier fault at the end of the day as things have to be booked in advance and paid for by the school before you even start. Thanks again to Yvonne, Jake, Dave and lastly to Terry who I spent the Majority of the time with. Just to add, the bikes were great and well maintained and in no way old by any means! The 650cc DAS was a 19 plate ( There was a brand new 72 plate one there that had not long been delivered and the 500cc was i think only a few years old. The 125cc I rode was older but who in thier right mind would spend money on buy bikes just to get dropped and battered by people with no riding experience! There were new 125cc bikes only 2 years old, but as ove already said, they are really well maintained and work perfectly. There is no better feeling in the world than being sat on a nice bike powering down the country lanes with great people!

Fantastic experience: Passed A1 tests and really happy!! WPM were very flexible and supportive as I joined the basic experienced rider track based on my experience as a teenager on a dirt bike. But road riding is a different beast. I fell in love with the Suzuki 650 training bike so decided to get one. Was never part of the plan. I remember folk passing their test in the first day I got there and wondered if I would hit the mark and pass. There’s a lot to learn. I like how WPM drill it into you so it’s second nature. You don’t realise this at the time. Sometimes you think they may be a little harsh but they know you are paying them to get experienced and pass your tests. They’ve been doing it for a looong time so let the experts do their bit and trust them. I think I had Andrew most of the time (smokes rollies) and he got me though it. I hit a difficult phase at one and he just knew how to get me passed it. It’s enjoyable being out all day on a bike but tiring due to mental alertness. Break the days up. Don’t rush. Listen to every word you’re told - you’ll realise yourself they’re giving you everything you need to get through it all. And when you do… what a feeling.

Fantastic experience: Great guys, I mainly had Malcolm and can not thank him enough, a genuine and patient nice guy who knows his stuff, and also Terry. Passed my full license on a 5 day course with no minors.

Fantastic experience: Bit of a late review as I passed my Direct access 7 months ago with these guys and have been riding and loving it ever since. All instructors were excellent and very patient in particular Malcolm who instructed us in an extremely knowledgeable and very laid back manner. Nothing was to much trouble for Dave who also sorted out an issue with my lost theory test certificate. All in all I’d recommend this school highly. Cheers fellas.

Fantastic experience: Booked a six day Saturday - Thursday Direct Access course having never ever ridden a geared bike before in my life. Passed my Mod 2 test following completion of CBT and Mod 1 earlier on in the course today, Thursday 19th May 2022, and this is all thanks to the instruction across the first five days I was with West Pennine of their instructor Terry Fallon. Very happy with the service I received in the end, despite initial misgivings and a lack of self confidence possibly exacerbated by several staff's more "direct" as apposed to "nurturing" approach, but they got the job done and for that I remain eternally grateful. Right, off out for a ride now. Cheers guys!

Positive experience: I felt I just wasn't given the right info partly my own fault. I should of read the website more and knew what is all about. I rang up for this info explaining I was a novice complete beginner and fancied doing my CBT. I ask what it was about told full day 9-5 learning then CBT road test. I asked what's the price he said £160 £60 deposit 100 on the day cash. I said to him so it's 160 that's it. He said yes. I rang him about this he's adamant he told me there's no garaenntee a first day pass. He did ask if I drove before I replied as a kid on a little fifty nothing major. I got the impression this was like a one day thing learn ride test pass I didn't realise it could take longer and I should of looked more into it. I would of prepared him to say yeh it's £160 now but you may need more lesson and then tell me the price he didn't. When I complained he took no responsibility at all. just Blame's me fully and went round in a circle . Jake is a fabulous instructor explained on the day it would cost more and take longer but I was doing well. And I'm happy with that. Over all to sum up Dave I felt couldn't admit to a possible fault on his end was all my fault. I admit I probly got it wrong miss heard but if he said to me it'll cost more than £160 cus you'll probs do more than one lesson I'd plan for it he didn't. Jake I would easly give five stars for and come here again and again but I'd plan fir it knowing I'd need more money. So Dave reaky put me off and I wanna go back but he just couldn't and wouldn't admit maybe he didn't give me the info I needed. Do book tho just watch Dave.

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

Hi Kirk Sorry you feel this way. On booking you were clearly told that CBT is not an automatic pass, it is not a rubber stamping exercise, you need to reach a safe standard to ride on the road. The information you gave me was that you had ridden before and that you had some car driving experience, you also clearly asked for a manual bike, with this information given by you I booked you on a manual CBT. Had you said you had never done anything I would have advised doing a taster (pre cbt lesson) first. If you need more tuition and bike hire above and beyond what you originally paid for it is not free, that’s just how it is. To rerun CBT you are charged £60 less than the original fee so it’s not full price to rerun. As per your phone call that’s your most sensible and cheapest option to get your CBT even now.

Fantastic experience: Did my CBT with Jake and passed despite being a novice at the start of the day. This was all down to how well he and the other trainers explain things and instill confidence on the students

David McDougal 3 years ago

Negative experience: This training provider proved to be the wrong choice despite the positive reviews. I would definitely recommend avoiding avoid them and booking your course elsewhere. The trainers are very poor and 'teach' as if they lost interest many years ago. Besides basic instruction, they give no real meaningful feedback to learn from and spend time slagging off other customers in your presence. The facilities and training bikes reflect the lack of commitment to providing a good customer service. I passed both Mod 1 and 2 first time with a different training school (having left West Pennine Training after a couple of days on the DAT course) and had a much better quality and enjoyable experience. I met two other people who had a negative experience with West Pennine Training whilst I was with the new training school so I certainly didn't just get them on a bad day!

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

The week you came (first week Feb) was pretty atrocious weather wise, it was very noticeable that this was not helping your enthusiasm. Jake worked hard to get you through CBT on first day and all other instructors did their best to progress your course. As you know you did not turn up the day before your module 1 test despite instructors and bikes in and waiting. In terms of service Yvonne spent time organising your theory test local to you prior your course (a service other schools normally expect you to sort yourself), the remains of course where put on hold for such time as you felt you wanted to come back - again a service other schools would definitely not do. On reflection an intensive course was not the right sort of course for you as an individual and I assume that your further training building on top of skills learnt from us would be spread out and judging by the date of the review in much better weather.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic staff. Friendly, jovial learning atmosphere. The trainers were fantastic and made everybody feel at ease, some of my fellow students were shaky in the beginning but the trainers soon had their confidence boosted and the results were great to see. All in all safety was still paramount and we were all able to have fun without any compromise to safety. It was an exciting experience and worth every penny. Thanks Jake!

Fantastic experience: Did my CBT on the 06.03 and it was a brilliant day. Instructors were fantastic from start to finish, from never riding a bike before to passing my CBT on a manual and feeling confident on the roads in one day, will definitely recommend to others!

Fantastic experience: First of all I would like to say thanks to all the staff... Done both my modules here , passed both first time thanks to the training received from both Terry and Dave. I completed me mod 2 today with 2minors. Terry the main man was so smooth at teaching I can't believe he's not butter. Dave on the other hand comes across like 'Jon bernthal' out of punisher but once u get to know him he's more like 'Billy mitchell' but credit where credit is due these guys are awesome at what they do.. The whole experience from start to finish was brilliant. Defo will recommend to anyone who is wanting to get on the bike life Kind regards Naeem aka the one who dropped your bike lol

Naeem Malik 4 years ago

Negative experience: Did my CBT here 18 months ago and then did a 5 day Das course. I failed my MOD 1 first attempt was my own error not schools fault then resat MOD1 and MOD2 on same day Passed mod 1 with 2 minors and Clean sheet for MOD2 super happy. On my MOD1 i was just thinking of Terry saying keep those revs up which I did and got through it. . Its not cheap but you get what you pay for or do you ? . Only one downfall I would say is the cost to resit your test if you fail which seems considerably high in comparrison to the actual test price. Also I booked a 5 day course on the schools reccomendation but completed within 4 days that was including my retest, questioned about the day I had spare and was told I forfit that day which I found a bit bogus as its technically £130 pound down the drain. Overall super happy with Terrys instruction and how he made the days feel with his freindly nature Top Bloke. Dave you have to take him as he is, he is a bit like marmite tbh...cheer up dude people who come to your school keep your business open. Overall im happy I passed but still baffles me that I was told I forfit a day because i passed within 4 days.

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

Hi Thanks for mixed review? Looking back on your course you paid for a mod1 retest which is £120 inc test fee, the test fee does not come to us it goes to DVSA to rerun the test and includes no element of tuition time or bike hire hence the extra cost which allows for up to 2-3 hours of our time and equipment. As you took and unfortunately failed your mod1 on day four of your five day course the time before your mod2 was put on hold (not charged for) since you had to come back for your mod1 retest and then take your mod2. I can't see your logic in saying everything was done including all test in four days unless you have a Tardis parked out the back. Anyway have fun , everyone is a bit marmite. Dave

Fantastic experience: Recently did a 4 day DAS course in the summer with West Pennine after also completing my CBT with them a month or two before. Having never ridden a bike before they had me ready in no time at all and I passed my MOD 1 & MOD 2 first time. Can't thank Terry enough for his excellent tuition.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic instructors, I can’t say enough good things about the team here. Very knowledgeable and committed to making sure not only that you pass but that you are safe. They got me through my cbt and then my das course and I passed first time. It is very intensive and they will push you to be a safe rider and as long as you take on board there comments and learn from it you will be fine. I have recommended them to family and friends. Thanks Dave, Terry and Malcolm, I got to train with you all and you were all great. I will be a better and safer rider by being trained by you all.

Gavin Waugh 4 years ago

Negative experience: Booked a 3 day course which the site states included CBT if needed to be told after booking that I can’t have that it needs to be 4 days (extra money) which is nonsense as 2 of my friends had done the 3 day course with CBT. Decided to call to enquire but the customer service was very poor. I’ve attached a photo to show what they offer but change after you have booked up.

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

We are currently not taking bookings for three day courses with cbt included, the course is far too rushed due to COVID restrictions and high demand for CBT due to lockdown. The course will be available later in the year as you were told. No booking was ever accepted and no money was ever taken from your account. Your behaviour on the phone left my wife in tears . I have done this job for over 30yrs and advice is always given honestly and accurately, if you don’t want to take it , that’s fine but don’t kick us because you don’t like the message.

anthony dean 4 years ago

Negative experience: They will ripping you right off. Most of time they will fail you because get more cash out of you. About 4 years ago they let someone take the piss out off my disability on bike yard. They told me what they did take all payments for test or etc… then they fail you your test

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

Hi Anthony can you let us know when you did your training, as I can’t find a record of it. It’s not clear if you did your cbt or full licence. In terms of cbt standards are set by DVSA not us to be issued with it, in terms of test an examiner who is independent of us assessed your ability. I will investigate your statement when you provide further details.

Fantastic experience: I just want to say a personal thank you to Mike. As a complete novice riding any motorbike, deciding to take my CBT was a big decision. On the day Mike made me feel welcome and explained everything very clearly and with a suggestion of humour but with a serious undertone to ensure we digested the information required to succeed and ride safely. Mike had a way of making me understand what is expected and how best to approach each section of the CBT course. Thank you again!

Fantastic experience: Very well organised ,well experienced training school i booked on a 5 day course they got me through my cbt mod 1 an mod 2 could not fault the lads an set up 1 bit 5 star for me an would reccomend to anyone

John Kirkbride 4 years ago

Negative experience: The rating of 2 stars is quite generous considering on day 1 the price had increased to £580 from £550 even though the price was agreed back in October. Covid 19 deal !!! and yes no email or text to tell me to bring the extra £30 only found out on the day. The bikes are a bit older than other training school bikes and this is quite noticeable when you get up to the test centre. All in all the Instructors are great apart from one who has a proper chip on his shoulders I have my suspicions he takes enjoyment from trying to beat people down. In my book if somebody does something wrong then constructively educate them that's what we pay for not slate a person and kick them while they are down and if somebody is doing it right tell them it's right. Glad to say I did pass mod 1 & mod 2 but the experience could have been more pleasant especially from Mr Happy who only smiles when he's got wind.

West Pennine Motorcycle Training

Sorry you feel this way, a £30 increase in 6 months is not a major change, prices go up. We do our best to get trainees through the test first time, that can seem to some that we are being picky, especially if the trainee claims a lot more experience than they are actually able to demonstrate and require a lot of things sorting out. I do wish that pass rates would be published at the test centre, because they have nothing to do with the newness of the bike provided and everything to do with tuition, they would make for interesting reading. Finally no matter what you may think we never lower ourselves to personal insults on trainees.

Tony Hopwood 4 years ago

Fantastic experience: An amazing experience learning to ride with West Pennine right from CBT in Nov 19 to starting to train for my test on Oct 20 and finally passing the tests in Dec 2020 (including a Covid lockdown in-between). The main emphasis of riding safety and not just simply passing the test is invaluable. Also, the thorough critique of my riding at all times was excellent and really put me on the front foot for the tests. My riding observations, etc are now all second nature which in my opinion is only be the result of the excellent tuition I received and I really feel confident and safe on the road. The prices are easy on the pocket as well. Thanks again everybody and I cannot recommend you guys highly enough. Kind regards and hopefully see you for some advanced training in the near future.

Fantastic experience: I took my DAS with West Pennine and my overall experience was very good. 1/ The instructors are hard but fair. But also patient and accommodating regardless of if your a complete newbie, or someone who is well accustomed to riding. 2/ The training site is big enough to practice many different types of obstacles. In a safe enclosed environment. 3/ Wide selection of Bikes and scooters ('Yamaha's, Honda's, Suzuki's) with different engine classes, all are well maintained and smooth to ride. would highly recommend this school

Fantastic experience: I just completed my cbt Couldnt have asked for a better set of instructors, both on the yard with terry and out on the road with dave.. Very understanding of my situation and even took there time to do one to one to get me through the proccess quicker than the other riders on the day because if ide have stayed on the yard till the others were road ready i would have been late for work.. Thankyou for a great experience Great lads Great bikes And a great choice of training centre
