Pass With Phil Driving School

Fantastic experience: Before I started driving lessons i would hear people saying about how scary and stressful lessons are, but from the first time I got in the car I knew that Phil’s way of teaching was the opposite. I never thought that I would have been able to build so much confidence when driving. Phil has taught me how to safely and effectively be on the roads, whilst also being so friendly and making driving lessons something to look forward to. He tailored my learning to me and made sure that I understood things and wasn’t put out of my comfort zone, whilst also providing challenges to overcome. From his help I was able to pass first time and get out on the roads independently! Thank you Phil!

Fantastic experience: Phil is an amazing driving instructor and would highly recommend him as a new person looking to learn how to drive. Im dyslexic and have bad adhd so I find it really difficult to take a lot of information in but Phil took the time to get to understand me an show different ways that helped me to pass first time. Gonna really miss my lessons as we always had a right laugh.

Fantastic experience: I started lessons with Phil after struggling to make things work with a prior instructor. He patiently helped me to build my confidence back up. Reassuring me along the way, whilst working at a pace I felt comfortable with. He tailors his teaching methods to each of his learners, to help them understand in a way that works best for them. Choosing him as my instructor was the best decision I could have made. The progress I have achieved to make me the driver I am today is thanks to him. His care and enjoyment of teaching never fails to show, through his jokes, punctuality and continued encouragement. I can’t thank him enough and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn.

Fantastic experience: I couldn’t have asked for a better driving instructor than Phil . I really struggle with my anxiety and was terrified to start lessons but those nerves went away instantly and my confidence grew with every lesson . Phil really understands how to describe things specifically for the individual and caters his lessons for what they need . For example I’m a picture person so learnt so much easier being shown pictures and when the white board pen came out . The perfect balance between a driving lesson and a weekly catch up. Thank you for everything even the non stop dad jokes , you will be missed on a Wednesday x

Fantastic experience: when i met Phil, i was terrified of driving, i had tried learning to drive with a couple different instructors but they weren’t the right fit. Right from the start he was patient, understanding and reassuring and he always has a joke to keep you calm and relaxed ( even if you are really anxious driving like me ) something that makes phil so different to other instructors is how much he cares! he always takes the time to email you feedback, reassurance and advice. He adapts his teaching style to how you learn best, he is very thorough and knowledgeable, giving you advice and reference points to make learning as easy as possible. Phil is so calm and never shouts or gets mad if you make a mistake, he is one of the loveliest people you will ever meet, i didn’t only gain a brilliant driving instructor but also a friend, i will really miss my lessons each week. Phil believed in me and my driving when i didn’t believe in myself and reassured me every step of the way. i honestly can’t thank him enough for all his help, i couldn’t of done it without him, i would always 100% recommend Phil to anyone learning to drive, he’s the best instructor there is.

Fantastic experience: I would recommend Phil to anyone who wants to learn how to drive! As an instructor he is patient, calm and knowledgeable. He doesn’t have a one way fits all approach, he gets to know the type of person you are and fits his teaching around you. As a person Phil is such a laugh, I didn’t just gain an instructor I gained a friend. We laughed a lot and lessons were fun, I looked forward to everyone. But even on down days Phil was the best, he listened and offered advice. My driving journey was filled with ups and downs but Phil never gave up on me and that’s why I passed. I’m so excited to my independence and I can’t thank Phil enough for helping me get there. I will always keep in touch with him and even have plans to have Phil get me on the motorways when I’m ready. Fantastic experience: I recently passed my test after driving with Phil since May and I highly recommend him! Every lesson was enjoyable and we’d always have a laugh. He has made learning so easy with all his tips and tricks. Not only did I benefit from the lessons themselves, but also the detailed emails with helpful information and links on after each one. Fantastic experience: After learning to drive for a couple of years else where and through covid, I had not much confidence and was very nervous when I first started with Phil, fast forward a year and I’ve passed my test with only a few minors and my confidence in driving has grown so much with the help of Phil. I would recommend him as a driving instructor because every time the nerves got to me on a test he’d reassure me and come up with ways to help calm the nerves and he would always email & give updates after each lesson on what to focus on next so nothing got missed. Would recommend for new learners or if you don’t have much confidence like I did! Thanks again for helping me get through it!

Fantastic experience: When I started learning to drive I was nervous. However, this quickly disappeared as soon as I sat in the car with Phil. His cringe dad jokes never failed to put me at ease and a smile on my face. Throughout learning to drive my confidence grew due Phil’s positivity, patience and the fact there seemed to be no such thing as a stupid question! I always knew what areas I was good at, and what areas to improve on- due to handouts emailed after every lesson. Phil goes above and beyond with him willing to meet you for a theory session (and a Cafe Nero) and his YouTube, which I probably wouldn’t of got the show me, tell me questions without. I honestly couldn’t recommend Phil enough. He’s taught me not only how to pass my test, but how to drive safely and believe in my abilities. Thank you and hopefully you find a new selection of jokes!

Fantastic experience: I got my license 4 months after starting to drive with Phil. He’s an amazing driving instructor and I could not have done it without him. He made learning so easy, giving great tips and tricks for becoming a secure and safe driver. I was super prepared for my test thank to him, I would recommend Phil to anyone who wants to learn how to drive. He made it easy! 10 / 10!

Fantastic experience: I always looked forward to my lessons with Phil. He really knows how to make you feel comfortable from the very start. Every lesson was very enjoyable and I never felt pressure even when I made mistakes we just learnt from it and laughed about it. He is not only a kind person but is a self proclaimed comedian (don’t have high expectations of the jokes) who wants the best for you. He knew how to make me feel relaxed on test day as well. He is a great driving instructor and I would highly recommend him, my sister had him I’ve had him and my younger brother Will too which shows how good he is.

Fantastic experience: Phil has definitely got to be one of the best driving instructors, he was so patient with me and gave me detailed emails about each lesson so you know what to work on and what you’ll be doing in the next lesson. He teaches you how to actually drive not just to pass the test which made me feel so much more confident on my test. My younger sister is starting her lessons with Phil next year and she can’t wait! I’ve enjoyed every lesson with Phil and quite sad they’ve now come to an end, I will miss my lessons with Phil the jokes maybe not so much :) I highly recommend phil as a driving instructor he’s very talented at his job.

Fantastic experience: I started learning with Phil after about 2 years of learning to drive. Due to covid and moving away I took a long break from learning, but came back to learn with the very best. Phil is not only a great instructor, but such a lovely guy - will miss the dad jokes!! He explains everything so clearly, he’s extremely motivating and has taught me how to drive safely. I actually really looked forward to my driving lessons which was a new feeling for me! I’ve gone through so many test cancellations through lockdown and two fails in the past. I really need to be able to drive for my work, and have spent nearly a year having to restrict my work and rely on others to help me get around - I feel like I have so much freedom now. To pass with no driver faults was something I didn’t think I would be able to achieve, and I definitely wouldnt have without all the help from Phil. I will miss our lessons so much, but I am sure we will stay in touch

Fantastic experience: I started my lessons with Phil in summer 2020, after having a few lessons when I was younger and being terrified because everything was done so quickly. I found driving incredibly stressful and difficult, it did not come naturally to me at all! I found that other instructors weren't very good at explaining things in a way I could understand, but this was never the case with Phil. Phil took everything slowly with me and kept me really calm, and gradually built my confidence up. He is not only a brilliant instructor, but a lovely person too and makes you feel so at ease and comfortable. I had a lot of breaks with my driving due to COVID and being away at uni, and every time I came back Phil always managed to fit me in for lessons and never once let me down. I suffer with anxiety, particularly in tests/exams and as a result it took me four attempts to pass my test. Phil always encouraged me after each one and believed in me and my driving even when I felt like giving up. He helped me so much and never made me feel bad for making silly errors because of nerves. Could not recommend him more to anybody, but particularly if you are a nervous driver as I honestly don't think i would have made it this far without his support. I am on cloud nine today and it is all thanks to him!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been with Phil for nearly two years. He is an amazing driving instructor and a very kind, down to earth person. His method of teaching is one of the best and will always leave you feeling positive. I looked forward to every lesson with him and I highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn to drive.

Fantastic experience: Phil is an AMAZING instructor, I passed both my therory and practical first time! From the get go he makes sure you feel comfortable and will tailor each lesson to you. After each lesson you always receive an email briefing out everything you’ve covered, what you did well on, what you need to work on and what you’re going to cover next lesson which helps you prepare instead of going into the “unknown”. When I first started driving with Phil I had zero confidence in myself as a person and a driver. But Phil always reassured me and always believed in me, so thank you Phil. Phil doesn’t only teach you how to drive/pass your test, he teaches you how to be a safe driver and puts you at ease which helped me feel calm and confident within myself. Anyone who’s looking to learn how to drive I highly recommend Phil, he’s taught me everything I know and made sure I was ready for my test. (Just ignore the bad jokes) It’s been an absolute pleasure learning to drive with you and I’m going to miss our lessons on a Wednesday!

Fantastic experience: I started with Phil back in July and have enjoyed every lesson. Always calm and relaxed when you are driving and when any mistakes are made. Phil also keeps his learners safe with the coronavirus still being around by wearing a mask himself, asking learners to wear one unless exempt and gives parts of the car a clean after every lesson. If you are looking for a relaxed and fun driving instructor then Phil is your guy.

Fantastic experience: Phil is unbelievable! Not only is he an excellent instructor, he’s just an all round genuine person. He makes sure each lesson is tailored to your learning with personal development plans that he puts together. Phil is a very honest driving instructor but he has a way of making you believe in yourself when you’re driving which makes every lesson enjoyable no matter where you’re up to - I couldn’t have passed first time without him :) Not only does Phil teach you to drive, he will also take the time to help out with your theory test if it’s needed. I couldn’t recommend Phil enough!!! Consider yourself very lucky if you get the pleasure of being taught by him Mondays just aren’t the same without our lessons but I’m so glad I’ve finally passed! THANK YOU for everything Phil, you’re AMAZING!!!❤️

Fantastic experience: Well where to start… Phil has been an absolutely amazing driving instructor! Recommend by my boyfriend and his sister, who both passed first time with Phil, I am so lucky to have been able to have Phil help me pass both my theory and driving test first time!! Learning together since October 2019, it has been quite a journey but through it all Phil has been positive, reassuring and kind both in and out of lessons. Always remaining calm and happy, Phil created the best learning environment and I would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn to drive… as long as you don’t mind some truly awful jokes! Fantastic experience: Phil has been by far the most helpful driving instructor I have ever come across, and has gone above and beyond to help me, and I’m not even one of his pupils !! I contacted Phil, for some advice on Automatic lessons, unfortunately I don’t have my own car yet, so he couldn’t help with lessons as his car is manual, and i am completely out of his area, but he was willing to help me so much, I really wish Phil could of been my instructor as he actually cares about people and their driving, Thank you so much Phil for the support you have shown me x

Fantastic experience: I cannot thank Phil enough for the patience and amount of positivity he has shown throughout my lessons and how far he is willing to go to go out of his way to deal with my nerves, mistakes and ways to improve. I always felt that Phil was always there for me to help through difficult situations at college etc and is easily one of the happiest and funniest people I have ever come across. Phil gives briefings after every lesson, telling the positives and negatives of each lesson and this helped me a lot by helping me in the next lesson to improve and this boosted my confidence massively. He met me and my family before my lessons began which put me at ease as I thought I was going to be stuck in the car with a stranger in silence! But he is far from that and quickly became a mega driving mentor and friend that has given me my independence. Leading up to test, me and Phil decided that I would take my test and the next few lessons in my car and found that this would be the best decision. Phil was very understanding with this decision and quickly fell in love with my car I will miss my weekly lessons with you and cannot thank you enough for what you have taught me and will be coming back to you for some motorway lessons in the next month or so. Fantastic experience: I would recommend Phil to anyone wanting to learn drive! I was very nervous and didn’t have much confidence but Phil helped me to overcome my nerves and drive to the best of my ability! He always believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself, he’s a professional, funny and caring instructor! He explained everything clearly and thoroughly in a way that was fun and easy to learn! There wasn’t a single lesson where we wouldn’t have a laugh and I will miss him very much!

Fantastic experience: Phil is a very patient and reliable driving instructor, after every lesson he sends lesson briefs going over the highs and lows of the lesson and what I need to make improvements on and also a plan for the next lesson which really helped, Phil’s not only a driving instructor but a legend!! Fantastic experience: After putting off learning to drive for many years due to being severely deaf (knowing my learning experience would be a bit more challenging than the average person) - my partner (who also passed his test with Phil) had me meet up with Phil to discuss the possibility of me learning to drive with him, what a fantastic decision that turned out to be. Together we sat down and discussed my hearing equipment and worked out how we were going to make the driving lessons as accessible as possible for me. Phil rather than seeing a problem with my deafness saw a challenge, however he was very respectful, I never once felt like a charity case or project with Phil. Phil also did his upmost best to work with the test centre to make sure they were aware of my equipment and communication needs and make it so the only nerves I had on test day were about driving not my disability. In regards to lessons, every week Phil would send handouts. These contained information on the controls of the car, rules of the road, junctions, roundabouts, manoeuvres and other practical driving skills. Passing the theory test was a piece of cake; as Phil gives you access to a practice app where he can track your progress and offer support where needed. Phil encourages you to get theory test done and dusted as soon as possible. Practical driving skills are made easier to improve upon, as after every lesson Phil sends a detailed email on what went well in the lesson and what you need to do to improve. In fact, everything was going swimmingly, until I got pregnant! Ah, Phil bless him, was so patient and humorous through my pregnancy which with the nausea, tiredness and horrendous baby brain that came with it had me muddled and confused. Being a person with low self-esteem and nervous about driving a car anyway, Phil spent a lot of time working with me not just on driving but on raising my confidence and sense of self-belief, the thing is he genuinely cares about his learners. I honestly believe that with any other driving instructor I would have given up. I was very vocal to Phil that I hated driving but he helped me to change my perspective, lessons with him weren’t about making me like driving but making me safe to be on the road – and now I am! Yay! As much as I really didn’t like driving, I really enjoyed lessons with Phil and I’m actually going to miss then now I’ve passed.

Fantastic experience: Learning to drive with Phil has been a fantastic experience. He is very supportive and really tries to boost your confidence whilst driving. He adjusts the lessons around what you want to do and what you need to work on. He also create an email with an overview after every lesson, to help you focus your attention. He’s an involved and friendly teacher, who always arrives with a smile on his face. When it came to my theory test, Phil suggested we meet for tea and cake to run through the parts of the test I was unsure about, consequently I passed first time. Showing he always goes the extra mile! We always had a good laugh and can’t thank him enough. I’d recommend him to everyone!

Fantastic experience: Learning to drive with Phil has been brilliant! He’s a great teacher and we had a lot of good laughs! He also focuses lessons on what you need to improve to get you ready for your test; and if you haven’t done your theory, get it booked because he’ll keep asking until you do the handouts and lesson overviews given after each lesson help you to know what you’ve done well and what to improve. All in all I couldn’t have picked a better instructor, thank you so much Phil!!

Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic instructor then 100% Phil’s the man. Phil is reliable and always on time, your lesson will not be a boring one with Phil’s sense of humour and rubbish jokes:) He will ensure you keep on top of theory prep and won’t give up until you’ve passed it, this continues with your practical. Other instructors can be prone to drag out lessons but will draw you in with cheap prices however not Phil; paying that little bit more is well worth it and each lesson is productive and actually planned out. Phil will also take time to send over handouts and feedback from your lesson which is so helpful to identify what you need to improve on. Thanks Phil for everything! I’ll be back soon to have a motorway lesson :))

Fantastic experience: If you are thinking of learning to drive I would recommend Pass with Phil without a doubt. He made me feel so comfortable and confident with driving and taught me excellent tips and techniques especially to nail the manoeuvres (even when I used to have a mental block against the left reverse). As well as being an amazing teacher Phil is also such a lovely person with a great sense of humour. I always enjoyed our lessons and will miss them even though I'm so pleased to have passed! He always has a story to tell every lesson and we had some great laughs! Thankyou so much Phil!!!

Fantastic experience: I just passed my test first time today with the help of Phil. I absolutely could not recommend him any more highly. After each lesson you get a briefing of what went well and what you need to focus on, which is brilliant as you know where you will be upto on the next lesson. I didn't stop laughing the whole time, every single lesson which makes the experience of learning so much more fun! If you want to learn how to drive safely but still enjoy it phil is your man!! ☺

Fantastic experience: A friend suggested Pass with Phil to me when I was struggling with another instructor. Driving wasn't something I enjoyed and I would often return from a lesson unhappy and dreading the next one. With Phil however, the opposite is true; from the start he encouraged me, reassured me, and made me laugh to the point I actually looked forward to lessons. Phil is very patient and explained any mistakes so that I understood why they happened and then how to correct them. His positive disposition stopped me dwelling on those mistakes so I could carry on and ultimately pass. Phil sends out handouts summarising each lesson which are useful as they allow you to see where improvements can be made and reflect on them in preparation for the next lesson and the test. Fantastic experience: Pass with Phil, has had such a wonderful , helpful and positive impact on not only my driving but my life. If you're looking for supportive , understanding , enjoyable lessons, then I recommend Phil in every circumstance. Phil can adapt to anyone's learning style, by demonstrations , handouts/leaflets and electronic games. This really helped me achieve my potential and achieve goals towards my driving , I don't just know the physical parts to driving , I understand why I understand exactly why I am doing something. Phil is such an approachable , fun, caring instructor I wouldnt dare go with anyone else. I have had a wonderful experience , had fun along the way , and passed my test with 1 minor. Fantastic experience: My driving lessons with Phil, never felt like a chore. His laid back, yet professional attitude made driving very enjoyable! Whenever I was nervous or uncertain about a situation he always put me at ease. His good sense of humour, which usually left me in hysterics, made driving a delight and I used to look forward to my lessons every week. He is very patient and understanding which made bad situations less stressful and worrying. Even with my theory test, he offered great support and helped me learn from my mistakes which led me to pass on my first attempt. Although I'm over the moon to be out on the roads, it's safe to say I miss my lessons with Phil. Overall, Phil is an excellent teacher who will always make you feel comfortable and confident with your driving which will lead you to the success of passing. Fantastic experience: It was very odd when i started to learn to drive with my dad sat next to me as my instructor, but that didnt mean i was treated differently, he was there to do his job and help young people to drive safetly and pass their tests. Phil has always been demanding of his learners but offers support and advice on any worries or problems that you may have, each time i went for the test Phil always calmed me down and told me i could do it, he is very motivating and im sure will help to teach many other learners to drive safetly!

Fantastic experience: Stop looking for driving instructors and get yourself booked in with this guy! After being in that crash I genuinely didn't think I'd drive ever again. I had lessons with phil and used to be practically sat in the passengers seat when anything got too close or a lorry came past. I passed my theory and practical first time with ease. Even when I passed I said I'd never go on a motorway cos I didn't think I'd have enough confidence. Now I prefer going on the motorway to driving on normal roads I'll always be grateful for the patience and timePhil Shaww had for me. Cos I'd definitely not be where I am today if I didn't have my license! THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Fantastic experience: I came to Phil quite a nervous driver and with quite a deadline to pass as a week after passing I moved away from Buxton very heavily pregnant! Phil was great... He made me feel relaxed and we always had a good laugh. Fantastic experience: Choosing Phil to take driving lessons with was so easy, he is a calm, relaxed easy going guy who gets to know you as a person rather than just a number in his driving school. After having 13 months of learning the drive Phil eased me back onto the road, refreshing my memory and making all the lessons enjoyable. He quickly picks up on your strengths and weaknesses, in time those weaknesses become your strengths. I passed first time with Phil and recommend him to anyone who is looking to take lessons.
