Fantastic experience: Ian is a great laugh and honest bloke. As an instructor he puts the bar high and expects you to drive to that standard. As it should be. He talks to you straight and doesn't except crap driving standards. When you mess up he explains what went wrong, why its wrong and importantly how to not make the same mistakes. HGV driving is hard, no other way to say it. You have to work hard to drive efficiently and safely and Ian does a great job getting you there, if you listen to him. 100% recommended from me. Be prepared to work hard and learn from your mistakes and with Ian's experience, knowledge, and skills youll be driving class 1 and or 2 to a very high standard.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience today, after a 24 year break from driving Class 1, a refresher with Ian melted those years away in no time. Excellent advice and guidance brought everything back like it was yesterday, even the auto gearbox became second nature, no double de clutch for new drivers throughout the test anymore which is a shame. Fantastic experience: Ian is one of the most down to earth people I have ever met, if you make a mistake you talk it through with him about why the mistake was made and how to rectify the problem in future. He is an amazing instructor and has clearly got lots of experience in driving lorries and teaching people how to do so safely, he can very quickly work out how to get the best out of you. Negative experience: My experience with Ian Markwick Driver Draining Limited was very poor, I terminated the course after only four days of the course and requested a refund. I must agree with previous reviews, that Ian's shouting and verbal outbursts are totally unprofessional and unacceptable. His outburst sends you into a panic mode for that split second, breaking your concentration and therefore making you unsafe on the public highway. In all the years that I have personally been a trainer I have never witnessed a trainer shout at the trainee in any way, the last time I witness such outbursts was when I was in the armed forces doing basic training, when you expected to get shouted at. I class myself as a safe and confident driver having 40 years of driving experience, driving everything from motorcycles, cars, vans, and lorry’s up to 7.5 tonne, I have hundreds of thousands of miles under my belt, many of them driving through Europe, with no accidents or incidents in this time, within four days of this driving course my confidence had been taken to rock bottom. I paid over £3k for a training course that I thought would be done in a calm and professional environment and manor, this most definitely wasn't the case. Ian out of the cab is probably one of the nicest chaps you’d ever wish to meet, however, when he climbs into the cab of the lorry he becomes some kind of a Jekyll and Hyde character, shouting, banging the passenger side window telling you to look into the mirrors, on occasion making obscene gestures to other drivers who had pulled out in front of us, are not what I expected of a professional driving instructor.

Fantastic experience: Ian markwick has got to be one of the best instructors in the game without a doubt and I would highly recommend him to anyone thinking of getting there truck licences

Fantastic experience: Excellent teacher, firm but extremely positive and reassuring. My first drive went extremely well totally enjoyed the experience, highly recommend Ian to anyone.

Negative experience: Do not do you LGV training with Ian! Extremely inpatient, shouty instructor. Ian was very friendly on the phone and in emails when I first booked my course with him however he's an extremely inpatient instructor, he gets very angry at every little mistake you make to the point you start to panic even more and mess up even more he's also very rude and swears a lot. I had to cancel my lessons with him and wasted a lot of money because I couldn't take his negativity anymore. The worst part out of all of this is that he's very oblivious to how he's extremely rude and a negative person. One of the times I tried to stand up to him and make things better and less negative he told me to stop the lorry and kept shouting things like: I am the wrong guy for you to be arguing with, you listen to me! I am not one of your University lecturers that you can argue back!. This was said when I tried to say I didn't mean to mess up since this was my first lesson.

Fantastic experience: I honestly can't give Ian enough praise, he is a absolute professional with his trainees, his knowledge and experience shines through, if anybody wants to be a professional driver ian is the man to train with, he will train you to the highest standards, thankyou ian so much, will be back soon for my class 1

Fantastic experience: Ian is a fantastic instructor and overall guy ! He really taught me how to drive a lorry not just to pass a test ! He is really in depth he wants you to be the best of the best ! And you can have a right good laugh with him ! Anyone looking to get there licences I 100% reccomend Ian!

Fantastic experience: I did a driving assessment with Ian, which included a brief demonstration followed by an hours drive to get a feel for the vehicle. Fantastic experience: This has to have been one of the best training courses I have been on. Super hard work during the first couple of days, trying to lose poor driving habits, while at the same time learning new skills. A great course design, splitting up the 5 days with the weekend in the middle to take in what you learnt on days 1&2 - in fact I used my weekend to practise those skills. Plenty of time on days 3 & 4 to polish up things before test day. Ian really pushed me hard into situations where I never thought it possible to take a truck. Ian has the patience of a saint & an awesome sense of humour. The training days feel like they disappear quickly as you are having so much fun. I passed both Mod 3 & 4 first time. This really was down to Ians tuition. Thankyou so much mate, I really appreciate it.

Fantastic experience: Professional training standards. What I've found with Ian is that he wants you to not only pass your test, but after acknowledging the weakness somewhere in your driving habits, he gets hard and strict on fixing them. Basically when you finish the course with him he correct and polish your driving skills and make sure you not only pass your test but he tries to change your bad driving habits. Which is awesome. .
