Driving Instructor - Drew Laurie

Fantastic experience: Excellence all around: Drew is the best driving instructor I've had the pleasure of learning under. He provides quick feedback and takes pains to make sure you're not just driving well, but to also make you understand why you need to drive that way. He's patient, and quite flexible with timings and schedules. Couldn't ask for more, and if I were to stay in Brechin longer I'd have hoped to finish all of my training under him. Even with my course incomplete, I'm a far better driver now, and much more confident on the road. Only very minor downside is that he only teaches automatic these days, but that's not a big deal at all, the skills transfer over. Thanks Drew!

Fantastic experience: I've had many lessons with Drew from previously learning in glasgow 4 years ago, had manual lessons and automatic lessons which without his help and guidance and how he explains things really id struggle, he made understanding easier, i used to have high anxiety when I first drove with drew but with his patience and lovely chats and his easy going personality he made me feel at ease quickly, he's reliable, and you'll be fast to progress with him

He's very professional, polite, patient, and knowledgeable with a great sense of humour and calming presence. Also, you can tell he has a genuine passion for his work and cars. Fantastic experience: I tried different instructors before finding Drew he explained things to me in a way I understood as I struggled due to being dyslexic. He was very calm and I progressed faster than I thought I ever would.I found doing 2hr lessons easier for me to learn and allowed me to drive further a field in the lesson. I would definitely recommend Drew Laurie for learning to drive.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of working with Drew Laurie as my driving instructor between September 2023 and February 2024 where he consistently demonstrated his utmost professionalism and areas of expertise inside and outside driving lessons, especially the following five aspects I would like to highlight: - His way of keeping track of learners’ driving progress is outstanding, by following precisely the skills required to pass the driving test as stated in gov.uk (URL: https://readytopass.campaign.gov.uk/driving-skills/track-progress-learning/). The table visualisation along with the 1-5 scale on the booklet he provided are excellent in terms of generalising overall performance and jotting down things to focus on when doing private practice outside driving lessons. - He makes sure that he gives learners an appropriate level of confidence. I had confidence when he praised me for the areas that I did well with, but meanwhile, he provided recommendations for better practice for situations that aren’t even deemed to be driving faults. - He possesses True Positive (i.e. instructor thinks the learners are ready and they are indeed ready -> put them to tests) and True Negative (i.e. instructor thinks the learners are not ready and they are indeed not ready -> suggest test postponements) judgements for learners’ test-ready standards. I would have been unlikely to pass the test on my first attempt with just 3 driving faults with someone else. - His posts on the Facebook profile are inspiring and engaging to read, by not only sharing the successful test stories but also the unsuccessful tests with thorough reviews. There are ups and downs throughout my learning journey and some of your blogs are a great help in keeping me highly motivated. I hope he continues writing compelling posts so that they benefit all learners including those who are not taught by him. - His “pay-as-you-go” method offers learners more flexibility in deciding a good fit with the instructor. Everyone learns things differently, and it’s crucial to find an instructor who adapts to your learning style as soon as possible, without getting held back by someone you aren’t comfortable with and knowing that you still have lessons left with him/her. Fantastic experience: I would 100% recommend learning to drive with Drew! He is very friendly, patient and calm. I struggled to get the hang of a couple of manoeuvres to start with and Drew was able to go over different ways of doing them until we found a way that worked for me. He does a great job of explaining. I passed first time, if you’re looking for an automatic instructor I would definitely recommend!

Fantastic experience: Extremely competent, clear and very helpful and flexible when booking lessons,no stalling or delaying ,been brilliant finding the time for me.The scoring system he uses is really helpful to understand where you need to improve.Easy going & easy to talk too. My second instructor as last one wasnt working out, last guy was cheaper but it's obvious where the extra money is going!! recommend to anyone starting lessons.
