Macclesfield Driving test Centre: Reviews
Fantastic experience: I recently took my driving test here with Dave. I believe he was one of the reasons I passed on the day, I was very nervous before hand but he instantly put me at ease. Making me feel like it was just a normal drive. I read so many stories and reviews that I believed my test was going to be a lot worse than it was, however It didn't even feel like a driving test as he was so calm and positive. I passed first time with 1 minor.
Fantastic experience: Excellent Experience at Macclesfield Driving Test Centre I had an outstanding experience at Macclesfield Driving Test Centre, where I successfully passed my driving test on my first attempt—without any formal driving instructor training. The entire process was smooth, professional, and well-organized. A special mention to my examiner, David, who was extremely pleasant, well-mannered, and courteous throughout the test. He ensured that I felt comfortable and confident while driving, and if I needed any clarification, he patiently repeated instructions when asked. His explanations, both before and after the test, were clear and thorough, making the entire experience stress-free. The professionalism and supportive approach at this test centre are truly commendable. I highly recommend Macclesfield Driving Test Centre to anyone preparing for their driving test. Thank you DVSA for a great experience!
Negative experience: It was a very bad experience. I took the test with an old lady who never smiled and did not want to communicate with you in any way. She failed me in the test even though I drove very clearly. The reason she failed was because I did not look at my right blind spot. I looked twice as much as I should have because I saw this issue in many comments. Despite that, I still failed the test. For the information of those who will take the test.
Positive experience: I did three times. First one was with wicked dirty nicky .. second time is with a beautiful soul called Harvey though he failed me but that wasn’t his fault he really was friendly but I messed up .. third time is with same man Harvey and he is so nice and make sure you are comfortable while driving . Then I passed with just two minors .. thanks Harvey
Fantastic experience: "I had a very pleasant experience with my driving examiner, Dave. He was extremely polite, made me feel comfortable, and provided clear instructions throughout the process. I wish all examiners were like Dave!"
Fantastic experience: I had my driving test yesterday and my examiner Harvey put me at such ease. This was my 4th test being taken but first one in Macclesfield and he’s the first examiner to keep me calm and talk to me like a normal human. I generally think it was because of him speaking to me that I kept so calm and passed. I would definitely recommend Harvey.
Negative experience: Absolutely disgraceful they sent our a text cancelling test 2 hours before then git tod have to wait another 4 months. The lady on the phone could not of cared less
Fantastic experience: Had my test today. Process was smooth and well explained. Bev was my tester and she was friendly and fair.
Fantastic experience: Great test today, lovely examiner Bev who made me feel really comfortable and explained exactly what i needed to do at each point in the test
Fantastic experience: I took my driving test at Macclesfield two weeks ago. It was the first time I’d tried, though I’m over 60. It was a huge deal for me and I was very anxious, though I’d had the most brilliant driving instructor in Amanda Aimson - she couldn’t have done more to get me ready for the big day! We arrived at the test centre and there were two other candidates in the waiting room - I was definitely 40 years older than both of them but there was a certain camaraderie nonetheless. Then the examiners arrived. I was allocated to Bev who was just lovely, calm, and very clear about what she wanted me to do. I felt immediately at my ease and in the hands of a real professional. From the start I really felt as though I was being supported to do my best, rather than judged to fail. The test felt ok, I concentrated very hard and did as well as I could, and Bev helped me to do that. When we arrived back at the test centre my instructor met us and I was absolutely over the moon to be told I had passed! It was one of the best and proudest moments of my life and I hope Bev and Amanda both realised that. So thank you, it’s been wonderful and I’m totally excited about the driving adventures that lie ahead. Rachel
Negative experience: My driving instructor convinced me to switch my test from bredbury(my local area) saying it would be easier to pass as the roads in Macclesfield suited my style of driving better(whatever the hell that means). First test at Macclesfield went fine then Bev failed me for cutting the corner on the entrance back into the test centre(after my test where I only got 4 minors). There was no other cars coming in or out and felt she could have given a minor for it. Booked another test there again for a couple of months later. I decided to purchase my own car in the interim because I had been so close to passing on the previous occasion. This time I got Nicky and I think she gave me a more difficult test because I was in my own car. She asked me to do a parallel park on a hill in a small street with parked cars either side within the first 10 minutes of my test commrncing. Anyway it was fine but she failed me for speeding on a road with poor visibility due to trees and one of the roads that could be a 30 or a 40. I am more annoyed at my instructor more than anything for telling me go switch to macclesfield knowing that they have really strict examiners and a low pass rate. I am sure if I had stuck with bredbury I would be sitting here with my licence right now and not having to walk past my car each morning to get the bus into work...
Negative experience: Please please don’t go there no matter how desperate for an appointment you are. I read previously reviews about that arrogant old lady and I’ve never thought she would be my examiner but she unfortunately was. I felt so unwelcome as she didn’t utter a single word to break the ice and to make me feel comfortable. Whenever I made a mistake she started shouting at me, I nearly asked her to end the test as I no longer wanted to be sitting next to her. After she told me I failed, she bombarded me with criticism and slammed the car door and left. Any suggestions on how to complain to DVLA? I paid money to take the test but she made me feel like she’s doing me a favour. I had a terrible experience and wouldn’t recommend this centre to anyone!! I hope someone who has authority can read my review and take action asap.
Fantastic experience: Passed my test today first time with Nicky she made me feel so relaxed and comfortable made for a pleasurable experience even though I was petrified. Thanks Nicky
Fantastic experience: My experience with Dave was absolutely brilliant. It wasn't my first driving test and I am fully convinced that Dave is one of the most professional examiner; calm and respectful. Driving test is stressful enough, so no additional stress is needed.
Fantastic experience: I had my driving test here and passed today Dave is very friendly and makes you feel so at ease I would highly recommend this driving test center especially if you get one of the two Dave’s thanks Dave for passing me Cheryl x
Negative experience: I was failed for apparently not looking in my left blind spot in the beginning of the test, even though I did and was told there was nothing wrong with my driving but I did not pass because I did not check the blind spot. Do not take your test here!
Negative experience: Terrible experience won't ever go back & I suggest you don't either Instructor was a elderly woman, I arrived in my own 24plate car with my father as an observer as he's driven 20years plus, This woman had a disgusting unwelcoming attitude, both me & my dad both knew the minute she spoke it was going to be a fail, I have driven since I was 17 years old I'm now 29 that's most of my life behind the wheel, I made sure I stayed 2/3mph under on every road as I've read reviews about dodgy majors for speeding, Wouldn't you know it, I made no mistakes during the test from both mine & my father's point of view, This woman slapped me with 3 majors for heavily speeding My car has a head up digital GPS display which tells me loud & proud the speed limit on every road & no limit was broken, If I could give this a 0 star review i would
Fantastic experience: Today I sat my third test here and luckily passed! I had Dave examining me and I must say he was so professional and friendly, he made me feel relaxed and he made conversation when safe to do so. He was really supportive and understanding that driving tests do make people nervous! I’m over the moon with my experience today and he is a brilliant examiner and a nice gentleman too!
Fantastic experience: Well let start with the weather it was atrocious rain, wind and freezing cold but the examiner was really nice and polite his instructions were spot on couldn't fault the test centre thank you oh and by the way I past my test cheers
Fantastic experience: My experience was different from some reviews here. I had a very pleasant test here, examiner was friendly, gave clear instructions and gave a valid feedback.
Negative experience: DO NOT TAKE YOUR TEST HERE. Today I had my test and shock horror NICKY walks through the door, just my luck. I have been warned about her several times and was dreading the possibility of having her. Of course it was my lucky day and I had Nicky to do my test. She failed me for apparently not looking in my blind spot even though I did several times and said I wasn’t making enough observations. Many people have had similar problems, she was very unprofessional and I would not recommend going here until she is fired. Thank you.
Negative experience: Ok so the the centre itself is clean and the test felt fine for me but the examiner is another story. I failed and the reason is beyond stupid, to the point that I was left in the parking lot short circuiting for a good 10 minutes before leaving to check the area I failed at. I was told I failed with 1 serious fault within the first 5 minutes of the test on the left turn from green street to buxton road. According to the examiner there is no possible way for me to see the road at my position due to the parked cars on the right. Well... what I think the examiner failed to take into account is the fact that cars have windows that are see through which did allow me to see the road and know that it was clear. Nevertheless let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say that I couldn't see the road behind said parked cars. This whole road is on an upward slope and so is the road that I'm emerging from, if you view this road on google maps you can clearly see this too. On the approach I had full visibility of the entry points onto this road (that being everything behind said parked cars). Now even if I couldn't see the road I can wait a few seconds (which I did) to see if any cars would emerge from this "blind spot", if none emerge then I can logically deduce that there are no vehicles in this dead space, and since i can see every entry point onto this road, I am aware of when a car is coming into this space i can't see, in which case i just wait for them to pass. Now the genius 300IQ advice this examiner told me was to get into better position to see this "blind spot" road, which at the time he was telling me I thought "ok fair enough, although I can see, you want me into a position where we can both see maybe? sure no problem." Now ladies and gents here's the kicker, on my way home, I had to take this road i had failed on. I followed his advice and went forwards a bit more right up to the give way line "to see this road". Now the parked cars are level with me and nearly perpendicular from me. Yeah... remember how I said that the emerging road was also on a slope therefore being elevated from these parked cars allowing me to see over them? YEAH? I CAN'T SEE OVER THEM ANYMORE. Now, yes I can see more of this road that was previously a blind spot but let me explain why this is more dangerous. if I see a car closer to me then the window of time I have to react is less than if the car is further away. ok basic stuff. So using the same logic considering now that I can't see behind the parked cars I have to rely on the fact that a car hasn't come PAST this dead zone for a few seconds and essentially assume that there's no car bombing it down the street from further back. Thus now instead of relying on what I can see and deduce, I now have to use my reaction time and guessing skills. I'll clarify; I can no longer see the entry points onto this road using the examiners advice. I don't know, this turn just seems like common sense to me, the shortened version of the turn is; no car pass -> i see if car come from far -> no car come -> it clear -> turn. The fail doesn't make any sense. Ridiculous. I would also like to mention that the guy told me that there was no possible way for me to see or know about that road in the position I was in. I will clarify. THIS GUY. Was telling me what I can and can't see in front of me. HE HAD GLASSES! I know damn well that my eyesight is better that someone who has to pay a subscription fee to see. But I digress. I won't insult the man or his intelligence and I am sure the reader of this review can come to their own conclusions. Bottom line is that I wish I had a dash cam to show my POV to dispute this idiocy and next time I take a test I'm going to narrate my vision so that there is literally no way I can get screwed over for observation. P.S. Some of these 5 star reviews have to be paid actors or something, there's no way these are real people.
Negative experience: DO NOT GO FOR YOUR DRIVING TEST AT MACCLESFIELD. i’ve been twice now to here for my driving test and i’ve had NICKY twice and she has failed me both times, today i went and she failed me for “cutting a corner” which i didn’t even do, i know i should have passed, my instructor sat in the back and saw the whole drive and said she shouldn’t have failed me, ive really been done dirty, she definitely gets sent out to fail people, im done now with macclesfield. joke
Fantastic experience: Had my MOD2 Motorcycle test today with Paul the examiner. Couldn’t ask for a nicer guy. Professional at all times, just brilliant. I can’t recommend this test centre enough.
Negative experience: It was closed relocated to bollington fc
Negative experience: Absolute shambles, I recently undertook my MOD2 motorcycle test with examiner Paul, he followed in a car which is firstly beyond me and secondly had to wait for him on numerous occasions due to the fact he was following in a car, after approximately 30 mins we headed back to the test centre to learn that I had failed, due to being in a wrong lane although I wasn’t, at the time he was three cars behind me stuck in traffic. It was impossible for him to witness the so called mistake.. I was so disappointed with his decision, I reached out to local business to check the CCTV which clearly shows he was wrong. Unfortunately appealing this is more effort and time than it’s worth. I also learned after the test the examiner doesn’t have a dash cam which i also find bizarre, lesson learnt, please avoid this test centre.!! I have recently booked this test with another centre.
Negative experience: Old, soulless and far too strict examiners. Had two tests here. The first one, coming up to a roundabout, the examiner said "I suggest you switch to the middle lane". I checked all my mirrors, made sure it was clear, indicted and switched lane smoothly. He then failed me for switching lanes coming up to the roundabout. My next examiner made me feel extremely uncomfortable. She refused to touch anything in my new, clean car without holding a tissue (??) and then failed me for something within 5 minutes for something which I feel was out of my control. It seems Macclesfield has disproportionately poor reviews in comparison to other test centres, so I feel my experience may not be an isolated one. Go elsewhere.
Fantastic experience: Had my driving test on the 18th of April at 8:20am in Bollington, since the Macclesfield Driving Test Centre is currently closed. The examiner was professional and fair; he was wearing a body camera and had a navigation system. I was visibly stressed about the test and the examiner told me to take my time. Unfortunately the outcome wasn’t what I wanted (I did not pass the exam), but we had a quick debrief at the end of it and I was given valuable feedback.
Fantastic experience: Passed my mod2 here today. I was a bit nervous on arrival, but put at ease with the polite professional manner of Paul the examiner. Absolute star of an examiner & ended up really enjoying my test despite the horrendous weather
Fantastic experience: Just completed my Motorcycle Mod 2 here and passed. From 1st arrival to leaving with my certificate I was put at ease by the friendly but professional staff. Thank you!
Negative experience: my son attended again today his 3rd test and failed again on what should have been a minor but bev classed it as a major yet again, our son asked her to go over the test with me but i was slow because i wear leg braces and she said sorry i cant wait im busy, absolutely disgusting behavoior from so called professional do not go here
Negative experience: this place need a governing body to investigate there examiners. they failed me three times on different things each time. changed to bredbury in stockport and passed with one miner.
Fantastic experience: Clean facility, driving instructor Friendly and pleasant, was a failed test but only due to my own downfall and instructor was compassionate. Will be re booking at this site again to re take.
Fantastic experience: It was a pass, what more can I say
Fantastic experience: Unfortunately due to my own fault I failed but what a lovely man John the examiner was he even spoke to me about my interests hobbies etc when we both knew the inevitable ! Next time lucky I guess ☺️
Negative experience: miserable examiners
Fantastic experience: Clean facilities, my experience with this test centre was great, I did my mod 2 test with a examiner named Paul, very politely, explained full details of what's expected to be covered by my test, he followed in a car, extremely clear instructions. I'd have no problem with using the test center again.
Negative experience: I just lost £300 thankfully to this driving test centre! This location is wrong , I was on time for my driving test but when I’ve arrived there couldn’t find anything, then I’ve researched again and it was 5 minutes away from this address, I was 5 minutes late for my test due to that and tried explaining this to the reception staff, but they came across extremely rude and told me they don’t care about it! Lol you don’t care you’ve got the wrong address on google maps and confusing people? You should be ashamed! I also can see that I am not the only one having really bad experience and the only people writing good reviews are the staff, jokes. Very unprofessional, should be closed down, please book at another testing centre if you can!
Negative experience: Just awful
Negative experience: Just had an extended test, the instructor turned up 20mins late and flustered, we left the test centre and returned after 5 mins failing me, I have been driving 30yrs, I had lots of lessons...I believe she just didn’t have the time, I respected there time slot the least they can do is respectfully turn up on time.
Fantastic experience: Poor workmen always blame the tools. People who say the test is only to make money or the Examiner didn’t like them etc are usually the ones that have failed. Don’t blame others for your own short comings. This test centre has now moved to new premises in Macclesfield, Bailey Court.
Negative experience: Please please please avoid giving your money to this test centre. Go Newcastle. Not only are the invigilators way too strict they are also quite rude and over the top. ‘Hesitant on round abouts’ shouldn’t be a reason for a fail at all. Ridiculous.
Fantastic experience: It's a driving test centre. I can take my driving test at this centre. That's it
Negative experience: Failed me for hesitation at roundabouts, was very nice and welcoming to the instructor. In my opinion instructors are too old and careless. I drove in an automatic which I feel instantly made the instructor dislike me. Don’t recommend Macc at all.
Fantastic experience: I'm a driving instructor !!
