Geoff Capes Driving School

Fantastic experience: It started well over a year ago looking for an instructor. I struggled to find one which was right for me, (some think you’re 17 years old and can talk to you how they want). I am 33 and by chance my mum bumped into Simon forrest while shopping and Simon kindly rang me when he had evening availability. He quickly makes you feel settled in the car and understands your capabilities quickly and then guides you step by step to become the learner you need to be to pass your test. Excellent teaching strategies and professionalism from Simon and above all the patience and consistency needed to get you where you need to be, not everyone has them qualities especially when it cones to teaching . I Would 100% recommend Simon to anyone.

Negative experience: Dangerous Driving around horses. A woman with blonde hair instructed the learner driver to pass me on the horse far too closely, completely disregarding the safety of both rider and animal (I was able to touch the car). When I tried to inform her of the rules of the road, she wound her window up and carried on. Anyone with even a basic understanding of road safety knows that horses can be unpredictable and must be given plenty of space. She should not be teaching new drivers.

Fantastic experience: I had Aaron who brought me through from start to finish. The guy was fantastic. To say i was nervous to start would be a understatement but he made me feel safe and at ease from the first lesson to the last. Professional service & i will recommend to family & friends. 10/10

Fantastic experience: My daughter just passed first time with Dawood.He has been an excellent instructor,she was a very nervous driver to start but the trust and belief he had in her has made her flourish into a confident and safe driver! I cannot thank Dawood enough for everything he has done for my daughter and would highly recommend him.

Fantastic experience: Geoff Capes Driving School is absolutely brilliant. I had Simon Forrest as my driving instructor, and I highly recommend him to anyone looking to pass their driving test. If it were not for Simon, I probably would not have passed both my theory and practical tests on the first attempt. Simon's method of teaching is amazing, especially for naturally nervous or anxious people like myself. I would like to say a massive thank you to Simon and his team for not just helping me pass my test, but for making me feel safe and comfortable driving on my own in the future.

Negative experience: I wouldn't recommend this driving school based on the lesson I had recently. My instructor was Dawood Hadi. We started by pulling into a road where he told me about a lady who he accompanied to her driving test which she passed that morning, he then went on to complain that she cried in her first lesson, before the test and then after the test saying he was annoyed because he doesn't know why she was crying, "you're just driving not going to war", then showed me a picture of her with the pass certificate whilst telling me she was "a bit old to learn to drive" (she is 31). He then said that women are bad to teach because they aren't good drivers, they're too emotional and stress him out. It felt very unprofessional and clearly didn't have much empathy for his nervous students - not to mention I'm a man so not sure why the rant about women being hard to teach? Before setting off with me driving, he asked if I had any experience to which I said not properly; I did 15mins in an empty car park in my partner's car a few days prior just to get the feeling of being behind a wheel to help with my nerves which clearly annoyed him. He said it doesn't help anyone, it's useless, I need to be on the road etc then brought it up about six times unprompted throughout the lesson which did nothing for my confidence. The instructions he gave were confusing and often contradictory, for example he'd tell me I'm holding up traffic and to speed up, then when I get near 30 (in a 30 zone), he says slow down it's a limit not a target immediately after telling me to get to 30 but I tried to take it in stride. There were a few times where he'd say to slow down on any bend, then tell me not to slow down for bends it's fine etc so I wasn't sure what I was actually supposed to do at times There were a few times where I'd make a mistake, and even when I said “oh sorry I did X thing wrong”, said what I intended to do and identified what my fault was (eg for one of them, I didn't apply the brakes hard enough as I didn't want to jolt the car, so went a little bit over a keep clear box), he'd tell me I'd fail my test for that which isn't helpful, especially on my first ever time driving while I'm identifying my faults so it's not like it was due to carelessness, just inexperience He reached across me to grab his vape which was in the door, which he started using mid lesson (did blow it out the window to be fair but I thought surely you can wait til after the lesson), then later reached behind my seat for his water bottle which didn't really seem right to me? I felt like if he needed those things it'd be safer to just have them in the front ahead of time Something that felt small but questionable to me was that he didn't check my provisional before we drove. He asked if I had it, and I did (but that could be a lie for all he knew), he never checked it but texted me later on asking for a photo of it It wasn't an entirely bad experience, he was reassuring at times for example, but based on the things I mentioned above, I wouldn't go back Overall it didn't feel like a positive experience and has left me nervous to try lessons with someone else. I'd advise to ask for a different instructor if you go here, or just to go somewhere altogether different.

Negative experience: Observed a learner. Instructor allowed traffic to build instead of moving on and therefore caused an obstruction to the flow of traffic.

Negative experience: HORRIBLE, NON RESPONSIVE, BROKEN SYSTEM. TOOK MONEY FOR A LESSON THAT DIDNT HAPPEN AND WILL NOT COMPLETE THE REFUND. USES A CALL CENTRE IN WALES SO YOU CAN NEVER GET HOLD OF THE ACTUAL SCHOOL DIRECTLY?!

Negative experience: This driving school demonstrates a lack of professionalism and reliability. They overpromise and underdeliver, taking on more students than they can effectively manage. While they are quick to collect payments, their ability to provide quality instruction and fulfill their commitments falls short. Prospective students should be cautious.

Negative experience: Terrible customer service, happy to take your money for lesson's weeks in advance and then cancel two day's before my 17 year old daughters lesson's. No response or return emails or phone calls, eventually promised a refund in 7 to 10 day's.

Fantastic experience: I had put off driving for many years due to lack of confidence and nerves but finally took the plunge and decided to learn in an automatic. Claire was a wonderful teacher, the classic combination of ‘firm but fair’ and instilled me with the confidence I needed to not only put me at ease during lessons - but helping me to pass first time. Don’t ever think it’s too late - Geoff Capes will get you over the line and I couldn’t recommend them enough.

Positive experience: Two lessons £68 very expensive disgusting price

Fantastic experience: So today I passed my driving test on the second attempt with 3 minors. I’d just like to firstly thank Milan my instructor for helping me to achieve this amazing target and better mine and my families life. On my first attempt, I had around 30 lessons with a different instructor and failed my test in April. Since then I got in touch with Geoff capes driving school and met Milan. I suffer from anxiety and had low self confidence and that quickly vanished once I started with Milan. He made me feel so comfortable from day 1. Encouragement was in abundance and he taught me to believe in myself and my abilities and stay calm. His teaching skills and methods are second to none. I highly recommend Milan as I learned more in the short space of time I was with him than I did in my previous 3 years of learning. Thanks Geoff capes and Milan.

Fantastic experience: As someone who is knocking on and nervous about learning to drive later in life, I couldn't hope for a better teacher than Geoff. Geoff is always friendly, informative and encouraging, with a great focus on safe driving and giving you the tools you need to be a good driver. I'm really happy with the progress I'm making.

Negative experience: Really poor instructor . Not set up for those with hidden disabilities / neurodiverse . Discriminatory comments made . Was really disappointed given all the good reviews I had read . Absolutely dire .

Fantastic experience: It's a professional school with great communication and helpful reminder texts prior to each lesson. I did automatic lessons with Ian and I couldn't have asked for a better teacher. He's firm but fair. He won't mollycoddle you or go easy on you when you make mistakes but he'll take the time to explain why you could do things better rather than just adopt a "because that's the way it is" approach. I personally really benefited from his teaching methods, especially when it comes to practicing maneuvers. I passed my practical test today on the first go and a lot of that is down to Ian's help. Thank you!

Negative experience: Sadly I have recently experienced a shocking example of dangerous driving by a driving instructor from the Geoff Capes driving school. On Monday July 8th 2019 at about 9.25am, he drove round a blind bend on a minor country road far too fast, and nearly rear ended me and my horse. He skidded past us, tyres squealing, slewing over to the wrong side of the road. Thankfully nothing was coming the other way. He then drove off at speed. There are skid marks left on the road. My horse was perfectly behaved and under control throughout, barring scuttling forward briefly as she was startled by the squealing of the tyres as the car skidded past her. He only just missed colliding with us. Me and the horse were wearing hi viz from top to toe, and the weather conditions were perfect - dry, warm, overcast, light winds. It was a white car with Geoff Capes Driving School emblazoned all over it in red lettering. I have a part registration number. Mr Capes knows who the driver is and promised to update me after he had spoken to him. But I have since had no further communication from the driving school, they are ignoring me. Cheshire Police have been informed and I have an incident number. This was shockingly bad driving by any standards, let alone from a driving instructor. It could as easily been a dog walker or a person with a pushchair that he nearly took out. I cannot recommend this driving school.

Fantastic experience: I could never learn to drive as I was always a really nervous driver and really hated it, that was until I came across this driving school. Geoff made me realise I can drive and there's no need to be nervous, just need to practice! He made me feel at ease when driving and the nerves would just disappear with every lesson. Now I have just passed my test and I have Geoff to thank, as i never thought i'd ever get to this point!

Fantastic experience: Passed my driving test first time! I am not a confident person in general and driving has always been something that scares me. I passed on my first try thanks to Geoff's magnificient ability to help me feel comfortable behind the wheel and handle myself during the test. I also warms my heart how invested he is in my life outside our lessons and it did help me feel better about driving because it shows me how genuine a person he is. The lessons are reasonably priced, and he will give you 110% and more at each lesson. Very chuffed about my results and i only have my driving instructor to thank for helping me to get here.

Fantastic experience: Geoff taught me how to drive back in 2008 - it changed my life and career, couldn't thank him enough! Really patient and as a nervous person I think he dealt with me just right! I would highly recommend him to any other learners.

Negative experience: Disappointing. On first appointment instructor called 25 minutes before hand saying she was ill. On the second appointment the instructor did not show up at all or call to let me know he/she wasn't coming. Would avoid this driving school.
